  1. That's because it has nothing to do with a Fender logo. Every single thing about it is wrong. The font, the spacing, the place on the headstock, everything.
  2. They don't fit anymore.
  3. Still really dig the colour of my Sadowsky:
  4. Yes, and that would also make it a bass with Fralin pickups. Pretty darn good basses, those early Skylines.
  5. It is. Also looks like a Korean made bass, so before 2008, possibly still with the Fralin pickups.
  6. I have not and honestly, I don't really care anymore. It's a great bass so I'm over the look of the headstock.
  7. It is very skinny, it is an A-neck
  8. Can't believe I've never shared this photo. 1966 Jazz - refin (very old), refret, no case 1971 Precision - pretty old refin, refret, original case, no original covers 1970 Jazz - refret, refin, new pots, non-original case Absolutely pretty bleedin' fantastic instruments, all three. The blue Jazz just got a big restoration (new frets, shim, new neck screw holes), the white one has the best neck I've ever played.
  9. It's back! New frets, new nut, a shim in the neck pocket and the holes for the neck screws redrilled and it's absolutely brilliant now. What an amazing bass. Love it.
  10. Ah check, didn't know that. Thanks!
  11. I might be mistaken but aren't CTS pots supposed to have a pot code on them? Or is that from after '62?
  12. Are those volume pots original? I don't think so.
  13. Definitely not. I feel pre-1980 is vintage. On the other hand, I've felt that way since I started playing I guess, which is around 2000
  14. Yeah I feel pretty lucky being from 1990: nothing interesting happened then. Well, except for the Heartfield (which I still really want) and the Kubicki Jazz.
  15. And still somehow the Jazzes from just before that (let's say 69-71) are particularly hard to find. When I found my 1970 Jazz (and overpaid for it) it was the only bass from that era I could find in NL, Belgium and Germany. Older or newer than that was no problem.
  16. The best Jazz I've ever owned: But this 1960 Fender Jazz I played a while back was also pretty cool:
  17. Currently at three blue basses (of which two are already on this very page), added this Belgrado Z-lectro to the collection. The colour is Avatar Blue and is originally a Peugeot car colour.
  18. It's here! Absolutely killer bass. Great playability, amazingly smooth neck, love the sound... Great bass. Here it is with its cousins from the low lands: Stingray with a Boekholt (NL) neck De Gier (NL) Soulmate Belgrado (BE) Z-lectro De Gier (NL) Bebop
  19. Of course! https://www.paulbelgrado.be Paul is an incredibly nice guy, very humble and an amazing bass player himself. He'll always downplay his own building skills but his basses are fantastic.
  20. Arriving this week, one of the prettiest headstocks I've ever owned:
  21. He does! Like this one. I've played this bass and it's bloody brilliant. And this one.
  22. A few years back, I interviewed Paul Belgrado, a Belgian luthier who makes amazing basses. A bit retro looking and amazing craftsmanship. His basses have always been at the back of my mind somehow. Until last week, when I met him at the Dutch Double Bass Festival. I played one of his basses and was immediately sold. So, somewhere this week, this baby is going to enter my house. Specs: Thermo alder body, maple neck, madagascar rosewood fretboard, TV Jones Thunderblade pickups, Hipshot hardware, pearloid inlay and Luminlay sidedots. It's so light, so easy to play and it sounds so killer. Like a Jazz Bass but just a little bit fatter.
  23. Yes and no. I've ordered quite a few instruments at Thomann, also for the school I work at and have never had to send an instrument back. Of course you can be unlucky sometimes but Thomann is pretty solid IME.
