1. And the Cort has been sold on to make way for a new Sandberg PM 4 string... alder body, rosewood fingerboard on maple neck, black burst matt finish, black P/G, Delano P and MM style picks and Glockenklang preamp. Can't wait!
2. I've always been very tempted by Warmoth products but would love to know peoples opinions/suggestions on where to find similair things in the UK (thus buying local and avoiding import charges). I'd much rather buy a nicely finished body from the UK than the US.
3.
People certainly do obsess about things that aren't really there.. did you tell him NJW ?
Nah... I couldn't be bothered with the agro! haha... Fair enough, I can admit there is definitely a tone difference when using non-bypass pedals... but playing an amp into a crappy cab in a practise room isn't going to magically turn into this religious bass experience as a result of going true-bypass.
4. I used to play a rackmounted head, and in the rack I had a Korg DTR1000. Our guitarist, who is tone obsessed and has an (admittedly great) obsessive pedalboard kept nipping at my that I was playing through the tuner before my amp and because it wasn't true bypass it was ruining my tone. I said "fair enough, but to be honest this amp isn't that great in the first place... I don't think it makes a significant difference" but to humour him I plugged into the rear input of the tuner and told him I had taken it out of the chain. Immediately he was grinning and finally exclaimed "THATS THE BASS TONE MAN! THATS IT! WE GOT IT!"...
5. Hahaha... I still find it a much more amusing prospect to have a band of jaded old musicians playing the songs backstage...
6. Wow I want one of these... Please tell us more soon, and take more pictures, and tell us how much it cost you... and and.... everything.... please.
7. Stephen, are you gigging at any time soon? I'd love to come and hear those Big Singles in action!
8. Im sorry to spoil the fun... I worked on crew for a McFly concert and there were no additional musicians... and they were quite good! They had a lot of dummy amps though, but they do play live (perhaps not on telly though!).
9. great in depth demo! i love his 'fingerstyle face'.

New bass time

Totally... obviously my judgement was affected by the fact that the Sandbergs are what I wanted in the first place, but I'll do my very best to give an unbiased review of it.
12. I use black 'seatbelt' straps...

New bass time

I managed to get to a store with some Sandbergs, Fenders and others in stock. I loved both the Sandbergs I played, and neither of them had the fret slot problems mentioned. I also loved one particular Fender P which outshone the rest of the Fenders in terms of quality. I didnt really enjoy any of the MusicMans. I had a think, and realised that since it's more likely I'll be able to pick up a 2nd hand Fender at any point, I would get the Sandberg at the moment. It's been ordered and should be arriving by the end of the month. I'll let you know how it is on arrival!
14. I'd do the terrible thing and clean the fretboard
15. why is Pete Wentz famous? He isn't even the singer. Yet somehow, he gets more coverage in all their videos, because he swings his bass around his head and jumps about like a twerp. Grrrr....

New bass time

well, the reason I was thinking something other than a Fender P was that I was hoping for something a bit more smooth/less growly than the passive Fenders - I already have plenty of growl from my Jazz. All the Sandbergs in the past I have played I have enjoyed very much. Part of my problem is that I can't go for things like the custom Shukers etc. because I have to be able to source the bass through a specific shop as they are getting me an instrument at drastically reduced price as a payoff for some work I have done for them previously - the only options are really Fender, Sandberg, Rick, Cort, Musicman and all the other usuals...

New bass time

Hi hi hi... The time has come for a new bass, but I need some of your advices. I have been peeking at a Sandberg California PM. I currently play an MIA Jazz and love the Fender thang... I want a P style bass to go along with it, but rather than a Fender I was hoping for something a little different. Sadly, theres no way I can get out and try a Sandberg for myself anytime soon... Does anyone have any thoughts on how the Sandbergs might suit my needs? I play in a couple of indie rock bands, and like the middly growl I get from my jazz, but I'm also hoping to begin playing in a covers band soon and need something a little more versatile, and comfy for fingerstyle playing. Your help is, as always, appreciated. Nico
18. snap. I would buy this straight away if it were a 4 string. Beautiful bass.... just beautiful.
19. The LCD TV works great with the Jazz, but the Lego house + Lego knights cause me some problems.
20. Mine is active also... It really is a fantastic instrument for the price - I spent a few hours today playing mine. It still hasn't beaten the jazz to a show yet, but it's nice to have.
21.
May I link to my own pictorial soldering guide? Silly question I know. It is important to have a clean soldering iron, and clean parts. I use Multicore Crystal 400 solder, and an Ersa soldering station (with electronic temerature regulation). But the "secret" is the skill, you know.
the last bunch of pictures seem to suggest you melted some of the plastic in that jack due to using too large an tip? just kidding! good guide!
22. Yup, place your crossover at the stage end, this would use 2 of your returns for tops + subs, and give you 2 monitor mixes. It all depends on whether you intend to use this rig for other bands too... I know it probably isn't intended for it, but if you ever had your rig hired out to a band with touring engineer, I'd be fairly certain he wouldn't be too happy with having to run a mono rig. Also remember that a multi is just a cable + some connectors, so you could always modify it a little and give yourself an extra return if needed (whilst sacrificing a send of course).
23. another gripe about the hiscox cases that both myself and t'guitarist had was that they dont stand on their edge as well as the fender cases do. Obviously i'm just picking at little things here. I do agree that they provide tonnes more protection than the fender cases, which are really quite soft for a 'hard' case.
