1. where in Carlisle do you work? I have only played in Carlisle once, several years ago @ the Brickyard. It was nice.

Midlands Bass Bash

This looks very cool. Unfortunately I'm from Scotland, but am currently working in Worcestershire. By the time this comes around, I'm gonna be back home, which is unfortunate. Enjoy it everyone! Someone take a camera and photograph/video all the gear please!
3. Tom has some amazing gear, and as someone mentioned already, is a top notch guy (as far as you can tell on the internet anyway!). He can obviously afford it, and that means there is someone in the bass community who is readily available and happy to give his experiences and opinions on LOADS of stuff. All you have to do is ask, and he'll be happy to give you any info you want (within reason). Oh, and he knows what he's talking about, which is a bonus!
4. thats absolutely terrifying. Imagine getting lost in the woods, only to find a huge orgy of dwarves and wizards, all playing bass riffs through ashdown mini stacks, naked, and making magic and stuff.
5. any reductions on the adult sized cabs?
6. exactly. I hope one day he tries to pile 20 of them, vertically, and the whole thing comes crashing down on top of his root notes.
7. exactly, which is why my spending AGES getting my bass perfectly in tune with the strobe tuner was completely wasted time. Pedals like the TU-2 and DT-10 get you in tune quickly and without hassle to play live.
8. y'gotta be careful on this one. A cheap multicore is possibly one of the biggest mistakes you can make, especially if its for a band setup and not an installation. The moment you start losing channels you'll be kicking yourself, because it's near impossible to locate and fix the problem. What about practising your soldering, buying a length of Sommer or Van Damme multi, and making your own?
9. I use a TU-2 for live playing. Using a Peterson Strobostomp, I found it far too accurate, and meant I worried about tuning much more than I should have = longer tuning breaks trying to get it 'spot' on. The TU-2 is nowhere near as accurate, but accurate enough to sound fine to everyone listening (in my opinion, anyway). For recording I use the Peterson strobe. I've also owned a Korg DTR1000 rack tuner which was great, but died.
10.
Which is? The only time you see them nowadays is with touring bands who have roadies to do the work. As Warwickhunt says, most bassplayers who are responsible for carrying their own gear simply aren't interested. And I say that as someone who gigs regularly with an Ampeg 610HLF...
The very important 'need' is that bassists who can't play bass very well need to be playing through a cab like an 8x10, because regardless of what they play it LOOKS impressive. As I said... very important! Anyway, I gig with a 610HLF also, and know many who use 8x10s without issue! They arent THAT heavy... you just need to know how to lift things properly!

Notice any loss in signal quality? Those things wreak havoc on tone when I use 'em in PA rigs.
12.
Probably because in most cases an 8x10 is over the top and there are so many quality lightweight portable cabs around which makes them sort of redundant.
In no way is the 8 (or 6) x 10 redundant. Oh no siree. There is a very real, and very important need for them in the world. Almost as important as Doctors, and Dentists.
13.
Well I'm not furious because mine is solid ply! It's a late 2005 model.
Mine was purchased early 2005. I don't know how long it had been in warehouse before that though... Still sounds good, I just feel it hasn't the durability.
14.
My SVT810E is solid ply. I know because I had to glue the Tolex back onto it after scraping it off on a door frame!
i bought an ampeg 6x10... after a while i too discovered mine was made of chipboard, and i was pretty furious, since it was sold me to me as a solid ply cabinet.
15. Here is me looking like an overweight cheshire cat human.
16. I am selling my faithful Tech 21 Landmark 300 head. It has served me well for several years now, and hasn't shown a single sign of getting tired. The amp is twin channel, featuring both of the 'SansAmp' rackmountable preamps, and also a 'SansAmp' DI out. It is 2U high and comes with rack ears installed. The first channel has a big, deep round sound, with a lot of drive to it if you want it to. You can get a pretty sick distortion from this also, although I use this channel as a clean. It is basically a 'SansAmp Bass Driver' in amp form. The second channel is cleaner, and has more mid to it. I don't use this one as often, but is great for cleaner, punchier sounds. I have used it as my main amplifier in both my bands, Stapleton and Avast!, and is a great amp for any musician! Looking for £425 o.n.o. for people on this board. more info - http://www.tech21nyc.com/lm300.html Oh, and i'll throw in a 6U rack case with it too!!! Pickup from DUNDEE, Scotland or can post at buyers expense.
