1. My right hand technique is awful and holding me back as a player. I'm in the process of unlearning and relearning it. A useful page of info: http://www.warwickbass.com/basssurvival101...on_9fingers.htm
2. A new Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty for $450 in 1994. I decided I was going to be a bassist instead and picked up a MIM Fender Jazz. Still got the Jazz and find uses for it but that Gibson was a bargain.
3. I paid £350 for mine. The trouble is nothing seems to be holding its value on here at the moment. That's an excellent bass in great condition at a very good price. I'd say just hang on in there until the right buyer comes along. If you can't wait then the only option is to lower the price, which would be a shame.
4. I have some new cabs on the way and I was just wondering how you guys break in your cabs. Any advice?
5. The Tubepath is the same concept as Warwick's earlier Quadruplet heads and preamp. I have one of the Quadruplet preamps and I'm very happy with it. It's a very clever piece of kit.
6. No need to use the EBS's effects loop. Just plug out of the Output on the EBS into the Effects Return jack on your GK.
7. There's always the 1x12 Gallien-Krueger Micro Bass combo. And there's also the 1x10 SWR Baby Baby Blue combo with valve preamp.
8. Email him and ask him. He's a top bloke.
9. That price of £700 for the preamp is excellent. I bought one very cheap from the US on ebay. After shipping and taxes, it came to around that price. I reckon it's the best preamp out there.
10. This was probably asked before but are you open to the idea of splitting this up? I know a lot of people would be interested in the head but not so many in the cabs.
11. http://www.westfieldguitar.co.uk/westfield...ucts.asp?ID=424 That's the bass I have. I have it in black but sunburst looks cool.
12. Hi L-Mac. Received and replied. I wasn't trying to imply it was for sale unfortunately. But I'm sure you could pick one up for less than I paid for it.
13. MIDI Switching
14. I've got a cheapo Westfield P-bass copy. I think it's 3/4 size. It looks silly but it works properly enough. The P pick-up is full-size. I think it cost me 65 quid.
15.
BUT - am I spending money on an instrument only to devalue it? (It is in "out of the box"pefect nick)
Seeing as the resale value of Warwicks is now peanuts, secondhand Rockbasses are now worth half a cashew. If you can find someone with a similar bass but fretless, then there's no harm in trading. But I'd be inclined to de-fret after a while if nothing shows up.
16. The EBS Microbass is great. I used to use the built-in DI on my Aguilar pre but I've decided to only use that in the studio now. Live I plug out of one of the line-outs on the Aguilar into the EBS. Another good thing about the EBS is that it actually runs on phantom power - forget worrying about potential damage to your amp or potential battery failure. And if one of the valves in my Aguilar blows, then I can also run the EBS into my power amp and cabs.
17. Just one question: isn't it a 10" speaker, not a 12"?
18.
That's my photo of Chuck Rainey!
Sue 'em.
19. That looks interesting. Must assess cash flow situation.
20.
Lots of early stuff was cut live but this is a stereo recording (although rather crude) with tellingly just the vocals and bass centre in the mix. Legend has it that once Motown went multi-track Jamerson got a track to himself. Alternatively this also makes it possible for the bass to be re-recorded.
Sorry, did not see this. Should be put next to what I put about them not multi-tracking. I don't have any firm evidence/sources. I just remember seeing it on the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown documentary. EDIT: I'm pretty sure Axis: Bold As Love was the first 4-track recording though and that was 1967, wasn't it? Obviously multi-track overdubs existed before that (eg. Pet Sounds) but I still think the multi-track recording technology was only just coming into play when this track was recorded - and it might not have reached Motown at this point. It still sounds like it was recorded live, but just mixed in stereo rather than mono.
21. Just on the point about them both potentially being on the record or Kaye's part having been overdubbed, I think it's important to note that at Motown they only used three mics: 2 room mics and 1 lead vocal mic. They did not multi-track. If you don't multi-track, that makes wiping an individual instrument and overdubbing another almost impossible.
22. I'm pretty sure that if Jaco Pastorius returned from the dead to audition for you guys you'd hire him. It would only be polite, after all. Good luck with this. How often do you rehearse/gig? I have my own band as well so I'd be concerned about scheduling clashes.
23. Good amp. If/when you do advertise to the general public, I'd suggest advertising it as either a bass or guitar amp. At 200W it'd be a monstrous guitar amp.
24. I'm so glad I don't use rehearsal studios anymore. They're horrible. A decent one is Resident in Willesden. Panic in Acton is ok.
25. So far I haven't had anyone asking to borrow my gear. We did get someone asking to borrow our keyboard stand once. We never got that back. We also supplied a drum kit at a gig after the promoter had trouble getting one (and asked all the bands if they could bring one). The other bands then complained about the drum kit to me. I just stared at them blankly as if they weren't speaking. If you can't be arsed to bring any equipment, don't complain if: 1. no equipment is provided, 2. the equipment provided isn't to your liking. Some promoters actively encourage bands to agree on sharing equipment beforehand. It's a sensible policy but even then, you'd be amazed how many bands don't respond to emails and then turn up at gigs asking what the equipment situation is. Cue my blank stare.
