1. You'll... walk it. No? Did that weak pun not even register? -_-
2. Screw it. If it's ten quid I'll get one and play under my desk, which won't look at all like I'm fiddling with myself.
3. Hah! Who gets royalties for those? Darryl Jones or Adam Clayton? Half-way down? EDIT: I can tell this just won't do for you, will it?
4. Just listening to Crosswinds. Loving it. It'd be great if this was recorded properly. Both guitarists are tasty soloists but their rhythm playing's not as groovy as you and the drummer - and possibly a little draggy. I think your drummer occasionally loses his place slightly when he goes nuts although he's spot on on all the breaks. So, typical basschat story - bass player's the best guy in the band. I'll check out All Blues now and add my thoughts in a mo. EDIT: Really enjoyed All Blues too. You guys are good enough to know what you can work on to make things tighter without anyone else telling you.
5.
That looks Doom as, er, flip. Want.
Exactly why I wanted it. For the doom side project that may overtake the main funk project. As I replied first am I first in line or was I not definitive enough?
6. There are a few different Bass Guitar method books out there from the likes of Mel Bay and Hal Leonard. Most of them are pretty decent.
7. Still sounds good to me. Has the price gone up from £275 then?
8.
I don't hate funk , I was just overexposed to it for a while and I dislike how every other contemporary band these days dubs themselves with a funk prefix and essentially uses it as a way to genericize every groove, wear stupid glasses and/or add a cowbell to the kit.
brilliant! I remember when funk used to be a dirty word.
9. Isn't that called TAB?
10. I'm not a fan of Take That but I'd love to learn every pro trick they use live. They seem very professional and very together.
11. f*** 'em. Have you seen Rock Star? Maybe you'll end up playing with DLR himself one day!
12. That must be seriously fun dude! Well done.
13.
PHWOOOOAR!!!! Thats nice. Couldn't possibly afford it though.
Same here
14.
yes, but what are they an eighth of? An eighth of the bar? An eighth of the beat? Calling them eighth's is redundant, they are only eighth notes in 4/4.
6/8 <- see the 8 at the bottom? There are six of those in a bar of 6/8. It makes total sense to me. In Indian music they'd just call it 6, which makes even more sense to me!
15. Cool set list! How does a guy who hates funk find playing in a fusion band?
16.
I sold an 87 warwick thumb 5 thru to buy an Alembic MK5 deluxe. Best move I ever made. I am a much better player because I now sound like I want to... result: I never put the Alembic down
I felt a strong sense of shock after reading the first 8 words of that sentence but then with the next 6 it all made sense.
17.
GB is great for the very basics of putting something together and recording. Pro Tools all the way for me.
Same here. I like Garageband but I don't think it exports mixes very well.
18.
On the way I asked what sort of stuff he played. He said he played a bit of everything, Funk, R&B, Soul, Rock, Jazz etc. I asked who he played with and he paused slightly and quietly said "Jamiroquai".
Sounds like the time I sold a secondhand piece of gear to Nick Fyffe through Loot. Again, the conversation went like this: Me: So, are you playing in any bands at the moment? Him: Err... I've just left Jamiroquai.
19. A Danish drummer friend recommended Celinder to me a few years ago. Sadly they're completely out of my price range.
20.
Split the band, tell him what's happened and then reform one week later without him. Shifty? Yes, but saves all that unpleasantness.
Hah! Skank beat me to it!
21.
I've never been in this position before, So, given that we don't want to cause more upset than necessary, how do we do it?
The four of you could quit the band and start a new band with a different name. Or just tell him he's rubbish and he has no plan in place to get up to the same standard as the rest of you. If he's not the best drummer in the world someone will tell him sooner or later.
22. Put the effects pedals before the input - not in the effects loop. It sounds like you have a ground loop and they're a total bitch to sort out.
