1.
There does tend to be a lot of pros using the combos.
They get given them probably. The electrics are good in them, the sound just sounds really tainted.
2. I've never been a fan of MarkBass, out of any of the major brands Eden/EBS (and the one in my sig ) are the best, but when everything is left flat and it showcases the bass.
3. This has been my backup system for quite some time and I've only ever had to use it on the odd situation. Due to the durability of my new system I won't need this one anymore. Max 100watt - nice bottom end and decent top end if you need it. Brilliant beginner stack with very little investment and this won't let you down. Doesn't come with anything but the power cable for the head (attached) as I need the rest for my crazy new set up. Sold as seen and you can test it before you leave! £60ONO cash and collection only please (from Portsmouth).
4. I'm a fully qualified freelance musician with many years playing experience in some of the UK's biggest venues. In my years of playing I've performed with Kelly Clarkson, Natasha Bedingfield, Mike Rutherford, Chad Smith and many more. The highlight of my career has been performing at the Royal Albert Hall - one of my biggest gigs to date. I have a multitude of basses as well as effects units - I also use Mainstage. I'm endorsed by Krampera, EBS, Fodera and Vintage. Not only can I sightread to a high level, but I can improvise to a high level! My gear list is as follows; 2002 Fender Jazz Bass 4 2005 Mushroom Precision Bass 4 1979 Fender Precision Fretless 4 2011 Fodera NYC Empire 5 2004 Eden Nemesis NC250 Combo 2011 Krampera KVB800 Stack 2011 MacBook Pro with Mainstage Multitude of EBS and Boss pedals. I'm currently available for UK and Europe dates with some international work available. Any of my demos can be found on my main website - http://www.tomkentmusic.co.uk Extra Info I also own my own personal studio, so home studio sessions are available - as are home lessons and Skype teaching.
5. Check here at about 9pm UK time for the day 1 writeup.. that took longer than anticipated!
6. I'm just finishing off writing up day 1 as we speak, going to get it proof read tomorrow and then upload it for you guys to read. It's the most full day though.. so I might be able to write up the rest quickly. I've also got the Krampera rig turning up on Friday so a very full an in depth review which is picture heavy will be coming up soon!
7. Unless you want to record it - or it's a big venue - why bother with DI? It's probably just for the 'I can't be bothered, it's not necessary' reason.
8. I'll be getting my new rig in the next 2-3 weeks and I've got the choice of rackmount or standalone. Now.. if I go rackmount I want a reason - so one of them is a tuner. What are the best rackmount tuners I can buy for under €150? TK
9. Well, I'm home now. Taking a couple of days off from everything musical (my fingers can't take it!) and then I'll be cracking on with the writeup and reviews of the gear I used. Went out with €160 and came back with €40, how does that work??
10. Just got back to the hotel after a very dodgy trip to a very dodgy part of Frankfurt. Crackheads galore.. AND €50 taxi home!
11. Phil! Come and try the Krampera stack out tomorrow - got an EBS demo board and a couple of vintage basses sorted. Also trying out a mystery brand tomorrow
12. There's a nasty chip right by the neck and a big crack in the body. Detuned it to make the tension less. Tried borrowing a top end bass, had no time to collect. Sat on the stand now. Check my twitter for photos as I've found Internet.
13. I'm gonna do a write up which will be featured a few places including my blog.
14. No one interested in following?
15. Hey Guys, Wasn't sure where to put this, but throughout my time at MusikMesse I'll be doing twitter updates and shoving photos up. I'll also being doing a proper writeup comprised of 3 days after the show. If this is against the rules then by all means close this, just thought some people might be interested - there's going to be LOTS of gear porn, reviews, names mentioned etc - I'll get wifi somehow! The Main Blog Twitter for during the day updates.. Any of you who have me on facebook will get everything popping up on your news feeds anyway. Cheers! TK
16. Take a big rig, although you can easily get away with a small rig these days (with DI'ing etc) the big rigs always look so cool
17.
Yep, I'll be there as a visitor. Arriving Tuesday & Departing Friday night. BUT no Après show gigs/parties lined up yet (Hint)
No doubt I'll be abusing texts while they cost me 7p per, you should have my number in a previous email? I'll let you know what goes on - I'm staying a good 20 minutes out of the centre though - two trains and a cab away I'm on a 6:20am flight from Heathrow.. on Wednesday. Happy days!
18. My insurance company just say 'what is it and how much is it worth' - they ask for serial numbers if I can. They're the people the Musicians Union recommend. 15k's worth of equipment for about £150 a year.
19. For sight-reading purposes I use the open strings a load, it makes it considerably easier (for me anyway).
