1. mega advice, thanks for that, i had an old fishman pricelist at work and the bp100 has shot up in price with JHS! Shadow was a thought. I'm going to listen to the bass first, and then decide.
I now think it's 1/2 or 3/4. If i'm honest, the half size may be bet if i'm switching during gigs, it will be amped up 90% of the tim, and mic'ed for recording.
Are Thomastik the most highly regarded strings, as i may change them too.

2. i've read and heard that in the 70's the Japanese makers were buying up the best timbers, amd the likes of Gibson and Fender ended up buying from wood sources closer to the equator, where trees are more dense, i.e; heavier. Thats why they ended up with six piece heavy-as- hell body blanks.

Madness.

It is a nice enough thing, but i've serously played better mexi jbasses, and the classic vibe squier is probably better put together.
Saying that, i'm sure someone will love it.
For me, that preamp turned me straight off.

3. er....underwhelmed.
It's not a j-retro, couldn't get to grips with it.
It has also had a chunk of the paint scraped away from the back.
It plays ok ish, but it's twice as heavy as my miller at least, unsure as to it's passive sound.
Not the worst neck join i've seen on a 70s fender.
Fairly uninspired at the moment.
Shame, i did have big plans for this bass.
May go up again on my day off...

4. hi folks, usually an electric player, but ive had a great offer of a zeller double bass.
Thing is i'm convinced it's halfor maybe even quarter size.
I'm going to play indie/country fingerstyle, and this is my alternative to a fretless.
Is it 'acceptable' to use what is effectively a junior instrument? Or will it sound poor?
I know most jazzers and rockabilly folks use a 3/4 anyway, so does it even matter?
Also, whats a decent cheap pickup?

Advice appreciated!

5. Has anyone on here tried the 78 Jazz in Johnny Roadhouse , or did a bass chatter used to own it?
It's black, maple, black guard with white blocks and binding, seems to be wearing a baddass and a retro-j.
I'm taking my Jaydee and Jack Casady down tmrw for a possible straight swap, just wanted opinions before i make a wasted trip.
My plan was to get it refinned and return it to passive.
Nitro LPB, parchment Pickguard.

Post or pm, thanks.

6. thanks, i think even chopping two basses in, i'd still be a grand short.
Would the person involed care for trades?
I'm trying to get rid of a few more of my own before deciding on what to have made for me...
I'm stuck in 2 minds, something like this alembic or a trad fender type thing.
Band or personal enjoyment.

7. considering the thread is 'dawsons music' it seems that they don't have much to do with it.
If Roland have the wrong code for their own gear, how are the folks at dawsons.co.uk meant to sort their customers. Is it foolish to assume that a supplier (roland uk)should have the right product code for their own product?
The lads at dawsons.co.uk have to cover violin strings to dj turntables, and they may not all be 100% on the roland gk gear, so it's forgiveable.
Some of the people who have problems with Dawsons on here may not realise that i remember their individual cases, and i've seen things from punters that not one of you would stand for in your line of work, so remember, the lads behind the counter 9 times out of 10 are just gig boys like you. And just have a thought, do you ALL get your job 1000% right all the time?!

Maybe i am biased.

8. Yvonne wouldn't ask me to, but she's been pretty poorly recently and i have dropped practices and rehearsals to be with her and mind Ella from my arrival home to my departure for work.
Wife to be, in this case, wins hands down.
But, when she's back to normal, i'll have plenty to catch up on, as we've taken on a quartet, and she's well up for hearing it.
She met me at one of my gigs, so this is how it has been for 5 years.

9.
Be careful though, you may end up wearing hi-top white trainers and growing a 70s p*rn star moustache :)
That would be hilarious...maybe that could be my new stage look? I think when i last saw Jeff Berlin he was wearing a bum bag too...winner.

These basses are lovely though.
