Yeah, i've just never seen them do a Jazz bass before.

Mind you, one search through Ishibashi U-Box usually brings up a few oddities.

2. Just bought an Early 90's Ken Smith Burner, and the 'Ken Smith' Logo on the pickups has been worn away.

Also, on the back plate it looks to be worn where it should say 'Ken Smith Basses Ltd'

I hat a similar problem with my old Warwick Corvette where 'Dynamic Correction' and 'MEC' had started to wear.

Can this gold paint be reistated, as the rest of this Ken Smith is totally mint, and it seems a shame to have this playing wear.

I'm not usually this Anally retentive about things, but i've paid top-ish Dollar for this bass, and with the rest being so tidy, i'd like to see it rejuvinated, this is going to be my only bass, and hopefully a keeper.

I've e-mailed Ken Smith...

'I have no idea about the plates or gold script. All of that came in from Japan decades ago and have no clue how they did it, sorry.'

In fairness to him, he responded straight away on the two questions i asked him. Seems like he's a busy guy without much room for pleasantries, but does sign off with 'thank you'.

Any ideas?

3.
here are a couple of mine
first up a korean made cheri bass cos 50 something pound, stripped out original pickups and found an old dimarzio p pickup on ebay for £10. i really like this bass and it has the sound to go with it now
second up is a yamaha attitude plus picked up in a charity shop for £20, it had no strings or bridge saddles and would you believe they also had a jap squier strat for £25
anyhow sound was ok but i swapped pickup for a kent armstrong i had around which has improved the tone no end
i reckon the pair as they are have probably cost me including the pickups maybe a shade over £100

The Flamed Maple neck on that Yamaha is AMAZING! Something you rarely see on lower cost instruments!

I'd have that in a flash!

4.
Where does all Smiths come from all of a sudden?!
Been looking for one quiet a while and now there are a few for sale here.
Fortunatly I got a hold of one. :)
I've been waiting ages too, rarely 4's come up as most Smiths i see are 5ers/6ers.

If this was a 4 i'd be a dead man! It's so pretty.

5. This is back up as the person i'd provisionally sold it to has messed me around too much.

Fender Mexico, Classic 60's Reissue, Limited Edition Burgundy Mist.
Bought 2009 From Basschatter in Manchester.

A great Bass. Basically the same as the much praised Roadworn Jazz, Without the Relic Job.

I saw an original 64 on Ebay, and started chasing these around. Having sold them in a shop in 2003 i felt a bit of a dunce for not buying one when i had the chance.

Still, found one on here, slightly modded and turned into my '64'.

I removed the Badass it came with, using an original BBOT Fender Japan bridge i had spare.
I changed the control knobs with real Fender ones, they were chrome.
I added the 'middle' pickguard screw.

I've added the Ashtrays, and thumbrest, and it's great.

The mod's i've left alone are the Hipshot D-Tuner, as it's great fun, and the controls are set VOL/Pickup Pan*/Tone. *Pickup pan is set reverse, so towards neck is for bridge pickup, towards bridge is neck pickup. Sounds odd at first, but really makes sense once you use it.
I'll chuck in 2 CTS volume Pots i'd planned to re-wire it with...If you want to change it that is.

Original 'E' tuner will be included, will arrive in a Merchant City Music Gigbag i got it in.

There are a few small indents on the back of the bass, and an under the laquer stain near the 'G' tuner, this must be buffing compound, not noticeable but worth a mention.

The colour changes from champagne shades to nice dark burgundy. Or, just call it 'Pink' and have done with it.

I paid £500, But will now accept £475.

There are also some Nordstrand NJ4SE Pickups i'll let go for £100 plus postage. I'd planned on Keeping this and adding these.

And there should be a USA 62 Reissue Jazz Shell Pickguard arriving at my work tomorrow...£25 plus postage.

Bass + Pickups for £550
Bass + Pickups + Pickguard £570
Plus the two posh Vol pots for nowt, seems fair enough.

NOW GOING AHEAD WITH THE NORDSTRAND PLAN, TOO GOOD A BASS TO LET GO...

6. "The Next One" - Yup, so it seems, i didn't think there would be a 'next one'.

But....I think this is it until a lottery win for a Smith Black Tiger 4.

On it's way from Jsixties...Burner Artist 1991, been after one for a while, and just when I didn't need it...pop, one lands on here!

I now really need to shift the three basses I was keeping hold of after the big selloff, will wait til i'm back from holiday to sort them.

7. "We don't have Burner bridges in Gold. The Smith Bridges might fit but will need a good professional to put it on and not mess up the bass. That Bridge is $160., 4-string gold. The Tuners are $64. for 4 of them. These will go up in price soon as the Dollar is weak to the Yen. The Tuners are made in Japan, not the Smith bridge though. The Burner bridge was made in Japan in black only but that was over 10 years ago when we stopped making that model. Shipping is additional.

Thank you,

Ken Smith
President/Owner
Ken Smith Basses, Ltd."
