1.
To be honest I really hope so because I like that bass and would be well up for owning one... I was at one point contemplating buying a LPB and getting it re finished, but thats silly expensive!! :)
Hope is nothing to do with it PK, just a little patience (think June was mentioned?), i've seen the press release.

  2.
Sounds great to me.

Let us know the confirmed date once you have it... I live in Manc + love the Castle pub = win! :-)
Oh there will be a thread, i'm sure...or i'll edit this one as we go.

  3. Yeah, think Dan the Drummer is checking out all the Youtube stuff for the drum demos, of which, i'll just be supplying a bassline in the appropriate 'style'.

I think we just want it to be a fun clinic with decent info rather than the all too typical 'flash, bang, puff of smoke...' etc.

  4. I've been asked to set up a demonstration of the New Roland Bass Cubes, along with a Drummer who will be demoing the new Roland TD MK2 Kits.

Rather than it being a stupid 'Look at me Slap' and 'look at his Double Kick pedal speed' type affair, It's going to be a bit more Flight of the Conchords with Bass and Drums...

The fact is, he's product demonstrator standard, whereas i'm just a normal Bass player really, and I'm not comfortable trying to show off.

So, i'm looking at a couple of funny tracks I can build up on the internal 80 second loop function the 60XL and 120XL have built in.

I was debating the 'Beat It' route which SMV did on their tour, where Marcus Miller Laid down the riff, Wooten played the vocal line and Stanley Clarke did the guitar parts...i've even sat down and transposed (sort of) the guitar solo onto bass, Van Halen on bass, haha.

But generally, if you went to see a demonstration, what would you like to see, other than the usual Bass Day ham fisted bassing?

'I heard it through the grapevine' was another thought to show the Ampeg Fliptop setting...

Just don't want it to rely soley on the looping function...

He'll probably take a Roland SPS too for samples and such.

Venue will more than likely be the back room of the Castle Hotel in Manchester, as my Singer and Guitarist own it, holds about 70 people, and has a decent enough P.A.

    Some time during April/May...

Any Suggestions, or things you've seen and liked at trade shows are more than welcome.

    Thanks

  5. I'm waiting for these Farida FJB Fretless's to turn up, and i'll be mentioned as an endorsee - thing is, I liked their basic Jazz copy a lot and approached them with a few ideas for a fretless, and they made 2 to my spec...so I know I like them (although one will be fretted eventually by a local luthier) and i'll proudly use them.

They will be my maing gigging basses as they're amazing - My CS Jazz bass will get an outing from time to time, but these will be with me until i'm done playing, or dead. (I'd let them quote me on that).

Also, i'll be swapping out my tired old Fender BG-32 Acoustic for their AB-10 which is a much nicer instrument...

But if a rep asked me to endorse a product I didn't believe in, I'm not sure I could be arsed lying, or appearing in the garbage adverts in 'play music' magazine.

Depends on the product - I think basses are highly personal things, whereas amps, I don't worry about; it's pretty difficult to find an amp these days without at least one useable sound, particularly in a band setting rather than a soloist - not like the 'ANDY TRAVIS EXPERIENCE' is coming to town anytime soon...

If D'addario are reading - I use your strings exclusively, can I have some in the post?!? Ha.

  6.
I disagree, I think it's mostly (or all) the front pickup with the tone flat. Streamers sound pretty middy on both pickups but the bridge pup is much more nasal than that.
Yeah, i played BB's Ash Corvette with East Preamp about 2 days ago, so I was trying to advise how he's going to get the sound from his bass...

Shouldn't be too difficult to dial in with the added options he has to hand.

Potter - The bass is lovely, take it from someone who misses a Warwick Corvette and sold it for knob all, it's worth hanging onto.

  7. The way my back has been since an odd train seating related incident...long story.

And going from 3 basses in the 10-11lb mark to a CS Jazz at 8lbs, i'm thinking as light as possible at the moment.

Heavy gear is a pain in the arse, and i've decided to worry about what i'm playing rather than what through.

I was very excited to see the new Roland Bass cubes have a D.I. Out from the 60w model upwards. And they sound good enough too...

  8. If I didn't have the dream fretted Fender to pay for...it'd be here.

I also have 2 Farida Fretless Jazz's i specced being released to me from their rep soon which i designed, so there won't be much space for this as i'll be expected to play them for fretless moments...

    It's such an amazing bass.

  9. don't buy one?

Edit - that was a bit terse.

Fender Custom shop basses are really a different thing.

I've played 1000's of Fenders, and there are more good than bad.

Recently i've owned 4 Jap Fenders, 2 Mexi Classic series and 1 USA Vintage Reissue. And they were all great, i've just settled on a Custom Shop Jazz, and got rid of pretty much everything else.

The other bass is a 28 year old Squier. And that's ace too.

edit 2 - still makes no sense.

Fender Japan and Fender Corona don't use the same lumber yard for theit woods, etc etc.
The vast majority of Fender Japan stuff comes without a gigbag, let alone a nice ABS Moulded case.

There are more reasons than are worth going into, but you know, find a bass you like within your budget, and if it's made on the moon, what does it matter?

  10. The Korean Artist stuff looks Dodgy. Reverso in gold...YUM.... :)

Star Bass Single Cut, Hmm...would still love a StarBass...how much? Nah.

Shame, loved my Warwick, got a lot of time for their gear, but they don't have pump out the garbage too.
