  1. Grand Reward who make the Cv's in China use d'addario on everything they make.

So, although Fender say they use Fender strings on the spec, the factory who make them for Fender use d'addario.
Do do Gibson Custom Shop sometimes, and Takamine acoustic guitars.

Rotosound have just done a deal to supply strings for Fender Japan too apparently.

  2. I've got a 75 in lake placid blue, rosewood, matching head - a limited run from 2002/02. It's great, my main bass now. Wouldn't mind a natural/maple one too with the black blocks and binding.

I have a Marcus Miller too, so, you could say i'd reccomend that type of Jazz.

    Yeah, I often wonder.
Whatever he had planned has probably been shelved as his 'research' work is now in a pile marked 'evidence'.

And yes, the Who should call it a day...

Pino is a wonderful man though...

  4. well...
I've seen the newer 09 onward jazzes go for £700 ish on here as 'barely used' but i bet most boxshifters on the interweb would do a new one for £830 in plain finishes and £900 ish for bursts.
I work at a music shop and we have the jazzes from £830 ish, dependant on finish.

A lot of places seem intent on shagging out fenders at heavy discounts at the minute.

I knew i should have ordered my les paul bass before they were discontinued...

Let me think on it, or, pm me with a price.

I was on the hunt for a thundrrbird, but, that can wait.

  5. The lad from Sleeper dod a great version of that bass break for the trainspotting soundtrack.

Also, it was just a mention for that solo, if we're putting them all in, why not 'My Generation' by the Who.

Love the 2 or 3 Danelectro's vs 1 Jazz Bass story on that one...

  6. Brian Ritchie on Violent Femmes 'Please do not go' it's a bass solo on an Earthwood acoustic bass, if you're not familiar, google it when you go looking for the track. Madness.

Victor Wooten's fretless lead parts on 'Big Country' from the 'Live at the quick' album, tasty.

And on the 'Graceland Live in Africa' dvd Bakithi Kumalo leathers a solo into 'boy in the bubble' as well as doubling up the slap break on 'you can call me al'.

My all time 'wish it was me' solo is the one Mark King did on the 'live at Wembley' dvd, he starts with a cheeky chord strum, and ends up kicking the living bastard fook out of his Jaydee, not melodic or very clever, but, when I first saw it, It was like aliens had landed and I was watching the news.

Flea's ditty on 'Aeroplane' needs a mention as it was a bonafide actual hit with a bass solo, allbeit shortened for the radio.

  7. haha, not my cup of tea, but that's really f***ing cool.
Epiphone should do more with their thunderbird, like the metallic blue and red they did for musicians friend a few years ago.
Or just bring out a new version of the reverse tbird with a set neck and two humbuckers...

  8. Clayton is a solid band player, and he's probably one, if not the richest bassist in the world today.
He's a fairly easy target, as he keeps it simple.
There is an early U2 track where he sticks a few slaps and pops in, but a lot of people forget any of that.

I hate Bono. But the rest of them seem to be rich, middle aged blokes, running through the motions, and raking it in. It's shameful, but fair f***s to them.

I don't get this bass at all. And it's so ugly.

But, i'm sure if Fender did a 'tribute' version of his battered PBass, or his mega cool Candy Green Jazz, there would be another thread bemoaning how 'it's just nother Fender...' blah.

I'm off to play 3 root chord rock pop in eigth notes, see if i can't rustle up a few billion quid.
