  1. I think they do in one respect - if Gibson had listed them as autherntic reissues, they'd be a bit off the mark. I think calling them MKII gives them carte blanche to muck about with the specs a bit.

I also think there is a perceived 'advantage' to a glued in neck.

I can't believe that Gibson haven't done the following two things...

EB-2D Reissue (Warwick Star Bass II, Lakland Hollowbody, Jack Casady etc).
Gibson Reverse Thunderbird Bass Reissue, or original 60's Reissue Thunderbird (Lakland Decade, Lull thunderbird etc...)

    A bonkers, bonkers company.

  2. Gibson have reduced the new ones a bit i've ordered two, should be around £899 ish.

Just a decent alternative to a Fender P Bass really, and the set neck thing really looks like an improvement - On paper anyhow.

The Ripper II was a winner, a really great bass. Like a big Rickenbacker with an attitude problem.

  3. Ring them and talk to them, or even better go and see them.

They'll do their best to help you out, and you try the one you get - I always cringe when paying for stuff i've not seen.

Even if they only offer to split the difference, you have a face/person/name to deal with - should you need any help.

"Credit Crunch" is a poor answer though, i work in the Manchester shop and that really isn't a phrase i'd use.

  4. i'm thinking about this, i got rid ov my trusty old oc2 a few years ago and i'm a mixture of 'i do miss that sound' and 'wny did you sell it, it's because you weren't using it..'
Damn the gear devil on my shoulder.

  5. A Japanese PB-70...these are littered around the jap websites, Same time as the fretless 70's Precision reissue - which, i need.

Bonkers - meant to be a P-Neck profile though.

    I like it, a lot.

  6. I think D.D.Dunn liked Jazz necks, but didn't like the sound, and preffered the Precision sound, but found the big necks tiring on long gigs and sessions. There was an interview in Bassist Mag years ago...

I've seen the Japanese reissue Precision with the block necks too, come to think of it.

Timmy C from Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave uses Jazz Bodies with Precision necks. He does this as he came from Stingrays and got used to the bigger necks.

I seem to be ok with either, but then again, i'm not Duck Dunn, or Timmy C, meaning i must be a dunce...

  7. yeah, the only common example i knew of was Duck Dunn's candy apple red and rosewood blocked Fender.
Which made it all the wierder when Fender did a sig model with maple and dots.
    The Lakkie isn't far off.

  8. I've heard rumours of the taiwan factory having a do at these, without the aged wood process...and a few other differences.

And, there may be some other bass gear from Yamaha too, so i hear...

I'd watch the Musikmesse coverage on Harmony Central, i'm looking forward to it...

The 2024Xs are amazing, very very jealous.
