1. Thanks Matt! Bobthedog, thanks for your message, I'll give you a call tomorrow.
2. I'm based in Central Milton Keynes if that isn't too far 'North'. Feel free to send me a DM if you have any questions about lessons. Edit: Actually, just looked at your profile…sounds like it isn't too far and I'm seeing you on Wednesday!
3. Anything with Gene Perez! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/154871-gene-perez-master-groove-playing/
4. Cheers, very aware of Sharay. Any new/unsung-type guys you know!?
5. I couldn't see a recent thread on gospel bassists.. I've recently been made aware of Thaddeus Johnson (@TJmusic21 on twitter) and think he's great. Big modern sound and great grooving chops. Any other newer gospel guys out there worth checking out? A video with Thaddeus including some nice fills about 2 minutes in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdbTxQDJRTo
6. Yep, my bad…amended notes in post to make it clear. I'd like to see the Clifford Brown transcription!
7. As far as I can tell in the this video, he is showing 4 separate phrases 5, 4, 3 and 2 that use approach tones: 5: [s]GFCFE[/s] GBCFE 4: [s]GFCDE[/s] GFDEbE 3: GFEBCD 2: GFEDBCC#D Although they bear similarities to the final phrase "made up of" 5,4,3 & 2 it doesn't seem to be the case. It would appear the harmony of the chord tones 5,4,3,2 (especially in the Cherokee video you mentioned) are being emphasised. Here the final lick is: G (5th) BCF (4th) DEbE (3rd) [s]GBD[/s] BCD (2nd) BCC#D (2nd) In the Cherokee video one lick over B Major is: A#G#F# (5th) E (4th) C#DD# (3rd) A#BC# (2nd) Anyone else!? [Edit: Thanks to Hector for note corrections! He also explains what's going on in a lot more detail]

Ibanez Porn

That is a lovely bass though (bits you've highlighted aside)! I've come near to selling it a couple of times and getting it fretted, but it is still my main (and only) bass. I'd just love the exact same but fretted to pair with it. 9. Just to update, I'm based in Central Milton Keynes now and still teaching. Only a short walk from Central Rail Station too...
10. Great thread. Followed a few people and good to hear them play! Especially since I've not been on this board for AGES. My soundcloud is: http://www.soundcloud.com/sessionbass

Actually, that was his old one! Check out Onsong - probably more suitable.

You can try Set List Maker. You can attach documents. Our singer uses it as it appears more aimed at lyrics, but it may be suitable.
13. Thanks for all your replies people. Very helpful! I'll check out all the links over the next few days. Hopefully something will be suitable. As for budget, I'm willing to pay what I would think is a good rate. But as example, one 4 piece band quoted me £3000, to which I said it is too much for what we would have got.
14. So, I need a wedding band for the evening at my own wedding next year. I'm having a hard time (read 'nightmare') finding one that both me and my fiancé find 'good' and would like at our wedding. As you can imagine being known as a musician to your friends, there is the expectation that the music on the day will be top notch. I've currently got a big band lined up for the day. I'm looking for 4/5 piece that can play a varied party set including modern pop in the buckinghamshire/northamptonshire area. Please put your recommendations or your own band links here if you play in one, for me to check out.
15. I thought this had sold on Monday for an agreed price but buyer changed their mind post fund transfer . Willing to offer it for £500 via PayPal or £475 by cash or bank transfer to anyone else as that was what I had agreed with them. Depending on location I will consider courier too.
16. I'm currently selling my upgraded GWB35 in the for sale forum if you are interested?
17. Not been actively pushing this as it will be a shame to see it go. Email [email protected] or phone if interested. Thanks.
18. I'm selling my Ibanez GWB35. Has a couple of nicks in the lacquer with a small one being on the headstock and others on the back. Otherwise no issues and in excellent working order. Currently strung E - C with Warwick Black Label strings. Now the best bit, all the stock electronics have been upgraded for a custom Nordstrand Dual Coil with exposed pole pieces and the preamp was changed to a BeePre (from Bee Basses). I have owned 2 of these basses, one stock and this beast which has a much improved full warm tone, a musical usable massive range, considerably more output and extremely quiet, but all of this should go without saying with the quality of the upgrades. The control cavity was enlarged and fully shielded with copper foil to fit the new pre and controls, but it still fits underneath the original cover plate. Controls were switched from a single volume and a stacked treble/bass to following:

Single volume (with push/pull for active/passive)
Mid boost/cut (with push/pull to change the frequency)
Stacked treble/bass boost/cut
Series/parallel switch
Mute switch
The pickup is a custom Nordstrand Dual Coil. A 5 string model wound with the pole pieces closer together that fit in their standard 4-string pickup cover for the Dual Coil as it is the same size as the stock pickup. This was not a cheap upgrade and took time for the custom model to be produced, but it has helped this bass turn into the beast that it is. For more information on upgrades check out respective websites: Bee Pre-Amp http://www.beebasses...ml/bee_pre.html Nordstrand http://www.nordstran...ups/index.shtml I don't have any recordings of this apart from a very old Youtube video, which really doesn't do the sound justice: (Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtaIKnT8O4M) but you can come along and try it for yourself. If you do, you'll need to bring an amp as I don't currently own one. This bass is effortless to play and I will be gutted to see it go, but needs must. I'm honestly finding it hard to put a price on this with used ones I have seen go without upgrades for £350-400, but as forum rules dictate i have to put a price I'll go for [s]£575 £550 [/s] £500 via PayPal or £475 for cash or bank transfer. (I've reconsidered the price). Email: [email protected] or call 07914814348 to organise a viewing/play in Milton Keynes. [s]I'll try and get some pictures up asap.[/s] Here are the pictures:
19. I posted about the original when it came out and would be very interested in trying on of these! Much more within my price range.
20. What is the name of the bassist who plays with the bass neck facing down and his plucking hand"under" the bass!? It's driving me insane that I've forgotten. Help please.
21. After a few bits of interest but no viewers, still available.
