2.
It's not just ERBs you're talking about though, it's technical w*nkery on any instrument. There are loads more idiots playing stuff too fast to hear on guitars than there are on 4 strings, or ERBs!!
You got that right!!! Shredding on guitars is dreadful! Thinking about it I reckon it reminds me too much of classical music, which I don't really get. A tutor was chatting the other day and told me that he sees a steady stream of young teenage boys, who say 'teach me to shred' - and that's it... They couldn't care less about anything but impressing their friends with the speed of their playing... nothing about theory, composition, anything. What's the old adage? Oh yeah, '3 chords and the truth' - that's the antithesis of 'tecnique over content' I guess
 3.
Most great music is not defined anywhere by its bass part...
Interesting point... The thing about solo bass (IMHO of course!) is that it's just less interesting than a Band... To me one of the great things about music is the synergy and interaction between players. Shadows & Light - Joni Mitchell, Jaco, Pat Metheny etc. is a great example of this. Something that's completely absent in a solo performance, which just seems a little bit sterile. This solo stuff seems more about technique over musical excitement and gut level feeling. Just a thought:- do people ever get up and dance at an ERB recital? Let's not forget the ever so PC BassChat caveat; one, two, three, after me:- Everybody should be able to play and listen to whatever they like, and it's all good ;-) Remember, there are no winners and losers, it's the fun of taking part that counts!
 4.
Our overseas manufacturers are supported by a team of our employees, located in China...
Oh well, another one bites the dust
 5.
So Dave Grossman is going to play Bach sonata in G minor, what's wrong with that, you don't want to hear it then fair enough, stay home and listen to Dr feelgood, but don't make fun of the bloke, he wants to play it, and there will be people there to watch him and appreciate what he's doing. Making fun of it just makes you look stupid, LOL indeed, I'm just laughing at you.
Nothings wrong with playing Bach, I just stated that I'd rather listen to something else. If you perceive this as 'making fun of the bloke ' then that's up to you... But it seems a bit over sensitive to me And as to making me look stupid - well that's also up to you... Laughing at me - why? Did I say something funny?
 6.
you just get the same stupid small minded people saying the same things
So if I don't agree with you I'm small minded? I think that says it all really...
 7.
Most people probably don't, that's personal taste, but an awful lot of people do, there wouldn't be this sort of thing going on otherwise http://www.unpronounceable.com/solobassnight/ "Dave will perform a 7-string bass arrangement of Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach and various original compositions."
Sorry Dave, but I'd rather listen to Dr. Feelgood than your 'arrangement of Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach' thankyou very much!
 8. That's a very nice looking job...
 9.
Any reasonable offer or trade considered.
I'll tell you what, send it down to me, I'll pay for the courier and I'll see if I can get it fixed at my cost... Can't say fairer than that
 10.
Just read what I wrote earlier today and just to confirm its £700 ono EACH.
spoilsport
 11. Have Sandberg been making basses long enough for one to actually get into this state naturally? I bet someone here knows when they started out... I only became aware of them fairly recently.
 12.
Yeah, they do a soft and hardcore aged type, the sandberg site has a bit more about it, mine is hardcore.
Blimey, that 'relic' is none too subtle ;-)
 13.
From Kent. Been playing 11 months. Absolutely terrible. Girlfriend wants to leave me due to the constant tuneless noise. 26years old. Right handed. Shoe size 10. I love custard (has to be Ambrosia in cartons). Hello.
You sound just what this Forum needs ;-) Welcome!

 15. 12 string bass - Item number: 190177479234 - currently $61!!!!
 16. Aaaaaargh!!! I've just gone and bought an acoustic bass (Takamine) and then I see this ;-) Oh well, some lucky bugger'll get it... Have a bump on me for a rare and beautiful bass...
 17.
If it were me, I'd feel inclined to bodge it with a bit of a matchstick, or suchlike. It sounds like it only needs something inserted against the flat face for the grub screw to bite upon. Jon.
I did that, but with cut up bits of cable tie (instead of matchstick) and insulating tape , but the knob still wobbles...
 18.
Normally the grub screw would face into the flat of the D-section to lock it. I can't imagine what the black bits were that fell out.
If you do that the knob is off centre with the shaft...
 19.
I've tried (nearly)everything.
Isn't it worth taking it to a good audio engineer? How about Hotrox in Nottingham, they're good... Seems a pity that it ain't being used!
 20. I have a push/pull volume pot where the pot shaft is basically 180 degrees in section. In other words it's a D shape, rather than a splined or normal solid shaft. When I took the volume knob off (attached with a grub screw) a few bits of black plastic fell out. I guess this was the adapter sleeve that converted the 180 degree shaft to 360 degrees. With me so far? My question is:- can I get that bit of plastic or do I have to get a complete new pot? Needless to say no one from the Ibanez Importer (Headstock Distribution) to Maplins have been able to help... Any pointers on this would be great ;-)
 21. I bought an Ibanez DWB3, it arrived promptly, was well packaged and was infact better than described. A very good guy, Recommended!
 22.
No flames, but a little smoke. Mark King is one of the few players that did more to show Joe Public that the Bass can be played in this way than anyone else.
I think you've hit the nail on the head... MK is more impressive to Joe Public than to he is most bass players. I'm not denying his skill or his influence, it just gets tiring to listen to.
