They sound just right, but they don't seem any less flat than 'flat's. But they do feel better under your fingers than 'trad' flats. And they have a bit more 'presence' if you know what I mean ;-)
 2.
This looks rather nice, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pre-Ernie-Ball-Music...1QQcmdZViewItem
A very unsubtle sunburst... Bet it sounds good though!
 3. Just got delivery of a Tort. 'plate from WD Music, specifically for a MIM Jazz. Does it fit? No ;-) Back it goes...
 4.
I have a MIA coming on Friday from a fellow BCer, and I think there may be a spare torty scratch plate with it. I'll PM you if so. Steve
Thanks for that Steve, but would it fit a MIM?
 5.
Bump!
Sorry, but I can be of no help at all... I'll never be able to play like that ;-) Sounds worryingly like guitar to me!
 6.
MB1. 77.9% of all Cat Owners (who expressed a preference) Preferred Whiskas!
Aaah, it's all starting to make sense
 7.
I don't see what you've done that would constitute being banned. You've just made a discussion thread as far as I can see?
Sounds reasonable... isn't open discussion the whole point?
 8.
'old skool' but cool skool!
you got that right!
 9.
I borrowed a freinds Marshall VBA 400 for a gig. (infact he's on these here forums as DrGonzo) and it was amazing! Sounded pure lush. a good Simple to work Valve head. Had the volume, power and most importantly tone. I would def recomend one. He also has the VBA 8X10. I didnt play through it but when he does it puts a smile on my face.
I wish you hadn't said that, I'm *so* tempted ;-)
 10. Just to bring this back on topic (!) I've just been playing my fretless ATK, strung with Status groundwounds... A complete contrast to my fretless Jazz, which has loads of mwaaah and zing, the ATK is strictly 'old school'.
 11. I would love a VBA400 head & 4 x 12" cab (or two!). People often say they're rubbish, but I reckon not ;-)
 12. Really good idea - I'd be fairly nervous buying a 70's Fender on eBay. I did it once (a '79 Precision) and I did really well, but I was lucky... I'd like to know how to spot the really obvious dodgy basses out there. I mean it's fairly easy to partly construct a 'vintage Fender' isn't it?
 13.
And as for him being arrogant? I DID say he was a guitarist..
14.
Anyway he picked up a guitar and had a look at it, and one of the assistants said "don't pick up the guitars if you can't afford them". So he just dropped it and walked out.
What a rotten thing to do to a guitar... I always hate it when people smash them up on stage too... He seems arrogant, he should've just given the idiot working there a few choice put-downs instead.
 15. Re. famous bass players - No one's under any obligation to know anything of course... But it seems pretty odd not to want to find these things out. If only because it's great hearing stuff I could never play ;-) As to Mark King, well he's been pretty influential as a player. Whether you like his style or not you need to know his sound.
 16.
sold to dylan nice one mate
Phew! I'm glad that's over... talk about suspense ;-)
 17.
More difficult than singing and playing, is talking and playing. Try it some time, just carry out a normal coversation while you play. Impossible!
Very true! Our will drummer talk to me mid song, probably deliberatley ;-) All I can do is grin inanely back at him, 'cos if I talk the bassline may collapse. So vocals *and* playing? How do they do it, like you said, practice, practice...
 18.
lets get back on track please folks or I'll have to consider closing this thread as it is not achieving anything.
Blimey, I didn't realise that things were so over regulated here... People are just exchanging opinions, if it strays off topic, so what?
 19.
You're *so* sensible ;-)
20.
I know this particular finish seems to divide opinion quite a bit, you either like or hate it, but I think this is one msart looking bass and I intend to have one of these someday, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-197...1QQcmdZViewItem
I just can't imagine what the guys at Fender were thinking when they came up with that finish...
 21.
What's wrong with a 40% markup? Or even a bit more? You think there aren't people out there who rely on that to make their living? Or who think it's worth it for the effort they put into setting it up and selling it?
I don't really have much of an issue with a 40% markup for a shop (although it *is* pretty high). I just don't see why (for example) a MM Stingray actually costs that much to buy in the firstplace. And more importantly, whether it's high price is reflected in a proportionaly higher playing quality. Feel free to tell me if I'm a). repeating myself or . getting tedious. It's been a very long day ;-)
 22.
my 6-stringer already has a trem
Now I would *love* one of them ;-) I know Schecter did a version a while back... I certainly couldn't afford the Fender reissue. An E to E bass would be excellent.
 23.
Not really. If the original owner's technique required a thumb rest, then fitting one would seem totally sensible.
You're *so* sensible ;-)
 24.
Some people on basschat dislike them for several reasons. David Nimrod and I are obviously exceptions .
You got that right ;-)
