Buy the cheaper CD only and spend 5-10 minutes ripping to an MP3 or, basically, pay a premium for someone else to do the ripping for you. No rights and wrongs really, just consumer choice.
You're not paying a premium. The CD's I bought were either the same price or more expensive elsewhere. Any album you buy from Amazon now gets put into a cloud service from which you can stream and/or download.
2. The Ashdown will only be ok as long as the band is fairly quiet. I've seen them used in two instances...one a folky pop band where it held it's own. In the other it was in a rock/punk band with 2 guitarists...it was useless and you couldn't hear it at all. In part it was due to the bass player had set his tone in competition with the guitarists but still. At that same event I used a Markbass 210 which I think could chuck out about 400w max, master was at 2 and kicked butt A 350w 210 combo is the min I'd go for.
3. I think it's brilliant The last few albums I've bought have been from Amazon and thought it odd that you get a free MP3 download. However, it suits me down to the ground as I like to listen to the CD at home and the MP3 I can download straight to my iTunes for out and about without the faff off having to import a CD.
4. Billy Sheehan (as already alluded to by Molan) splits has a different signal path for his neck and split coil pickups. He uses pretty much off the shelve gear as well. The neck pick up he puts through a Hartke LH1000 into a Hartke AK115, this is for his LOW end. The split coil goes through a Hartke HA5500 into a Hartke AK410 for his high end, distortion and other stuff. Sounds pretty good to me
5.
I thought you were into checks??
I personally like all East Europeans...
6. I watched the Billy Sheehan vid over the weekend. Found it really inspiring, a well spent hour and 20 mins.
7. Could be the output from your phone, it might have a volume limiter on it??? Maybe? Just guessing.
8. Cheese is the main ingredient.
9. They both look vile...the only thing that would make them look even worse would be gold hardware. What's with the stripe on the body?
10. note to self: buy a reverb pedal, it'll make me more groovy. Phew, thank your singer, I didn't know where I was going wrong Personally, and being slightly serious, reverb doesn't always work that well with bass. If used, use sparingly. However, it'll never make you groove more
11. For £100 if you want to go for new then maybe a Fender Rumble 15. For practice I've always found it invaluable to have an aux in to plug in my iPod and a headphone socket so not to annoy the wife
12. My current band's rehearsal space is piss poor, but it's cheap It's a long narrow room. The drummer is set up one end and the amps along one wall. The nature of the room doesn't allow for any other set up. Hence the sound is sh*t. Just have to work with what you've got.
13. I've tried to get into D/T as the guitarist and song writer in an originals band I was in was heavily into them. However, I just can't get it, there's something missing for me...maybe it's feel?
14. I made the mistake of buying one of Kayne West's albums, it's sh*t. Hence I didn't even bother clicking on the link, he's a talentless tw*nt.
15. Charts aren't what they were, most of it these days is just rubbish...all that manufactured ....oh, sorry, wrong charts. As you were.
16. Thank you everyone. It certainly is the first one. Had a rehearsal last night and I managed to convince the others it was so....which is a first
17. "The dog's just been sick..."
18.
And now a terrific tart looking for fun in Indianapolis.
Sorry Nige that was me using a picture of myself taken several years ago. I've got much shorter hair now and don't use eye liner anymore. Again sorry, just thought it'd be a bit of fun.
19. Unfortunately 'tis often the way. A singer/guitarist told me that he learnt all the chords for songs by ear. He turned up to a practice only having worked out half the song...and a semi tone down from the original recording he'd been listening to. His ears were flat and didn't stick out at all, so I suppose it was to be expected
20.
Bloody hell mate, you are highly perceptive. Didn't think anyone would pick up my cheeky play on words
You weren't discreet enough obviously *I've already got my coat on
21.
What is all this crap? I'm getting hot MILFs and lonely Texas wives following me on Soundcloud. I can mute them, but there seems no simple way of reporting these rogues to Soundcloud. Wot gives?
Stop downloading MILF porn then this won't happen
22.
Easy, Nige. The velvet hammer is to hand!
How times have changed. We used to get threatened with a smack around the face with one of Ped's unlaundered socks. I feel we've certainly gone up
23.
For starters, you should learn to understand what the tonic is and where the chord series begins. The piece is in Gb. You're starting on VI. You should also mark how many beats each cord plays. That will clarify where the changes come. e.g Gb///I////IEbm///I/// etc. Secondly, a B has the same notes as a Abm7. What determines the actual chord 99% of time is the bass note. As a bassist it's imperative to hear that. In this case, the bass is playing an Ab.
I know the song is in Gb, if you read the original post I'm referring to the end of the song where, approximately, the band start playing an Eb. I apologise, however, I thought most BCers were, like Molan, fairly savvy and wouldn't require a full chart to gauge an opinion. I'll bear it in mind next time I post a question like this. B and Abm7 have the same notes? Does B have an Ab in it?. Despite that I can't remember mentioning Abm7 and your point about the bass is playing an Ab doesn't precisely explain where. Perhaps you should have marked how many beats the chord played and clarified where it was being played.
The last 3 chords of the of song sounds like a vanilla major key IV V I turnaround so I'll vote for the first version too.
Cheers mate.
24.
I thought it was a bloke.

I did, too - oops!
You 2 should be worried
25. The guitarist don't tune down, no.
