    Thanks for the replies. I have done some reading and am aware that I'm probably not going to have much joy, but our guitarist is pretty accommodating in playing softly when needed, so I'm hoping for the odd practice it might be enough.... The open mike has a PA should I need it anyway, so it is mainly just for practicing.

    I have a Fender BG32 30" scale acoustic bass on route that I'll be using for some acoustic practices/open mikes unplugged and am looking for some advice on the best sort of strings for it. I play with a pick, and have recently put TI Flats on my SG bass, which I am loving, so something flat would be ideal, but not necessary. I'm guessing maybe bronze strings will give me the most volume if I dig in with the pick, but then I don't want loads of fret noise when I slide etc. Any input from you guys would be appreciated. Cheers.

    Hey. Pretty interested in this. Is it short scale? And will it keep up volume wise unplugged with an acoustic guitar (I play with a pick)?

    I really dig the look of Souldier straps and have one on my guitar that I love, but when I put it on my SG bass the neck falls. Does anyone know of any straps that have the vintage look of Souldier/Ace style straps, but will keep my bass upright when playing? I know Souldier do 3" wide ones but I imagine they will just do the same as the thinner ones. Cheers.

    I'd just like to be able to put bass lines I use in the band into tab so I don't forget them. The ability to save as PDFs would be cool so I could save them for future reference. Does Tuxguitar do that?

    I currently have a Takamine EF407 electro acoustic guitar as my main acoustic. I usually just play at home but lately I've been to a few jam nights and taken it along. I'm struggling to get enough volume from the guitar alone (there are no amps etc). It's a small guitar (New Yorker style), and I'm pretty sure the last strings I put on were Extra Light Ernie Ball Earthwounds. I was wondering if putting a heavier gauge string on might increase the volume a little, and if so, how heavy would the guitar be able to handle? The guitar scale is 24 3/8 inches I think. Cheers.

    I have a Ubass that I dig for practicing whilst the tele is on, but it's not loud enough unplugged. It sounds great plugged in though! If the Shortbass works out I'll probably sell the Ubass though.
