I currently have a Takamine EF407 electro acoustic guitar as my main acoustic. I usually just play at home but lately I've been to a few jam nights and taken it along. I'm struggling to get enough volume from the guitar alone (there are no amps etc). It's a small guitar (New Yorker style), and I'm pretty sure the last strings I put on were Extra Light Ernie Ball Earthwounds. I was wondering if putting a heavier gauge string on might increase the volume a little, and if so, how heavy would the guitar be able to handle? The guitar scale is 24 3/8 inches I think. Cheers.

I have a Ubass that I dig for practicing whilst the tele is on, but it's not loud enough unplugged. It sounds great plugged in though! If the Shortbass works out I'll probably sell the Ubass though. I ordered it from here: http://www.mercatino...temid=1&lang=it Came to around £385. I was also interested in the 26" scale one but I'd like something now and have no patience.

I've just ordered one of these in the hope of it holding up in acoustic practices. They seem to be pretty loud from the videos I've seen. Anyone tried one? http://www.shortbassone.com/?p=24&lang=en
Saw Sven twice last week, Glasgow and London. The Crowes are such a cool band!!
I was at the London show last year, and the one last weekend. Cool band indeed, and phenomenal live!

Hello all! Been lurking around here for a while but now a fully-fledged bass convert I’d like to spend a bit more time in these parts. I’m 32 and from north Suffolk. I originally bought a bass when I was 16 as my dad wouldn’t let me have a drum kit, but switched almost instantly to guitar for the next 15 or so years (Noel Gallaghers fault!). Decided to treat myself to a Gibson SG faded bass in 2011 when I qualified in my profession, after many years obsessed with Andy Fraser (well, Free in general). Was instantly hooked and have pretty much left the 6 string alone since. Sold some guitar equipment and treated myself (again J) to a Markbass CMD 121H combo. For the last year I’ve been getting down some lines by Free, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Black Crowes etc etc. Earlier this year, along with my wife (drums) and a mate (guitar/Vox) we started jamming at a relative’s barn. My wife’s step-dad heard us and asked us to play at his 65[sup]th[/sup] birthday party. The party was 2 weeks ago and my first gig on bass. The place was packed, we did a 10 song set of bluesy covers and I had the time of my life (although initially I was bricking it!). So now I’m hooked and looking forward to being a part of this cool place. Cheers!

I have DR Hi-Beam 45-105 short scale strings on my SG Bass and love them. I read somewhere the originals were 45-105 and these feel very similar, but brighter.

We're having a clearout and before I chuck all my old guitar magazines I thought I'd see if anyone wants them. Free to whoever can collect, I have around 140 mags, mostly Guitarist but the odd Guitar & Bass, & Guitar Techniques. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk. Cheers. I've just bought a Markbass amp for bass duties so selling one of my Bluetone Pro30M amps. I have two of these amps and up for sale is my backup. It's been sat around for a while so I've just checked it works and all is ok. These amps are pretty rare, but the tone is unbelievable for a solid state amp. I'm a massive Paul Kossoff fan, and like these amps as they get that late 60's/early 70's Marshall tone at any volume. The line out is brilliant too for direct recording. This amp is used but in good condition. The knobs have been changed but the original silver knobs are also included. There's a couple of good video's demonstrating these on Youtube. I'm looking for £350 collected from North Suffolk, or I could meet somewhere reasonable for petrol costs. I do have a box somewhere so could post it if necessary.

Couple of things I need to clear. D*A*M Drag'n'Fly. Great condition. Amazing fuzz. £165 plus postage. Catalinbread DLS MKII Superbass. Amazing Marshall Superbass style overdrive. I bought this to cover Paul Kossoff tones, but it also sounds brilliant on bass guitar too. £85 plus postage. (Picture to come).
