  1. Same here Andy. I switched to medium scale when suffering some wrist issue and 32" scale was a game changer. If it's an Ibanez Mezzo you were loaned, I have one and it's my go to bass now.

I spoke to @Andyjr1515 of this parish about changing the neck of one bass I'll never sell to 32". He thought it was possible but I never got round to it before leaving the country. Might be worth dropping him a PM.

  2. It sounds like the ring and sleeve could be the wrong way round so the pre-amp is permanently connected.

Depending on how healthy the battery is, even new ones vary, the fairly low current draw of the pre-amp could keep it working for a couple of weeks. Or die in a couple of days.

  3. "B" stock items from Ashdown are generally items that have been used for trade shows, demos or supplied to endorsees for a tour.

I got a B stock RM500 and it was perfect. I'd speak to Dave Green at Ashdown if you think it isn't quite right as I believe you still get the full 5 year warranty.

What an excellent idea! Thanks, @Dad3353.

I've done the cling film trick a few times. A good friend has a son who has his own transport company. He gave me a role of the industrial stuff they use to wrap the contents on pallets.

Coming in very handy for our move out of the country.

  5. Vol - Vol - Treble - Bass controls.

Bought to go in a bass I don't own anymore, so not needed.

I bought it on here a little while back. It was originally in a 2013 Coda 4 Pro. According to the original owner, it works fine & sounds great (and don’t believe the “boost-only” story: zero is at about 3/10).

It was swapped out to install a Vol/Blend/Bass/Treble setup with active/passive switching. It would be easy to convert this to that setup.

Hopefully the original owner doesn't mind me using his pics and some of the blurb.

    Includes UK postage.

  6. Price dropped to £1250 before it goes down to Bass Direct for a commission sale, unless Mark feels like offering me a good price on it.

Single Cut Skelf 32 inch scale 5 string. I have had a number of Alan's masterpieces over the years and this is the nicest one to play. If it wasn't for a change in circumstances, It would not be for sale.

Originally specced out by @Merton of this parish, it is a gorgeous example of Alan’s exotic wood options - the “Fractal Mac” ebony top is crazy cool, different and interesting. It's light at 3.7Kg or 8lb 3oz in old money and is absolutely "as new".

When I got it Alan had installed a 4-way pickup select switch (bridge, both parallel, both series, neck) but I felt it was a bit limiting so got Alan to send me a blend module and I find that much easier to get the tone you want. The P-Retro is an amazing piece of kit as well.

I can easily swap it back to the selector switch if that is your thing.

If it wasn't for the fact we're leaving the country, this bass would be going nowhere.

This is probably going down to Mark @ Bass Direct in a week or so as I really don't want to take it with me when we emigrate.

    So, the specs:

    5 string (low B)

    32” scale

White Limba body, fractal mac top

3-piece ash neck with carbon rods, asymmetric neck carve

    Rosewood board, zero radius

Reverse 1+4 headstock with matching fractal mac veneer

2x ACG Overwound reverse PB ceramic pickups (essentially a P split pickup in a soap bar case, and reversed so treble side is nearer the neck)

    East/ACG P-Retro with active/passive switch, pickup blend.

Hipshot B-type bridge, 17mm string spacing

    Gotoh tuners

Currently strung with Newtone nickel strings

    Comes with a Fusion Gigbag

  7. Plug in. Turn up. And, above all, have fun.

In "as new" condition, the plastic is still on the tuners. The Red Carbon effect pickguard is a vinyl wrap, that can easily be removed, but IMHO it looks much better than the white it comes with. Not many black ones around, but I also have the Sea Foam green version that's going nowhere, well actually it's coming to Valencia with me. It's a cracking bass and punches way above it's weight.

Incidentally, when weighed using luggage scales, the heaviest reading was 7.5lbs.
    Any questions, just ask.

Here's what Ibanez have to say:

As part of the SR Mezzo series, the Ibanez SRMD205 brings an abundance of fun to playing the bass. A shorter 32", 5 string, medium-scale makes playing a breeze while still producing a luscious, rich low end. The lightweight design also adds to the comfort and enjoyability. Ibanez custom 2-band EQ electronics with DXP and DXJ pickups, this bass is really versatile. strung with D'Addario® EXL165 + .130 medium scale nickel strings.

From memory, there was a recommendation here about a separate insurer, but I can’t find it now.

Does this ring any bells for anyone else?  @AndyTravis - I have a feeling the knowledge came from your fountain!

Could have been me. I've used Securus, www.securus.com,  a few times to cover instruments sent via Parcelforce. I can't comment on how good they are if you have a claim as the deliveries were spot on.

Good to know. Have you covered the edges onto the back or cut sharp to the face edge?

Here's one I prepared earlier. Originally white pearl, which was actually a vinyl wrap over plain white.IMG_20240606_103354.thumb.jpg.64ffb2af8d3b2e1ec49f74509e0dbe1c.jpg

  11. I've vinyl wrapped a few pickguards and they've come out great. I used car vinyl wrap and it's a cheap way to change the look of any bass.

I've used carbon fibre effect for them all.

  12. Are you sure it has a pan pot? That looks like the classic jazz bass VVT setup.

It looks like the red wire had come away from the tone pot and the white from the middle volume pot. Difficult to say exactly where from the pics but there will be signs of solder and no wires to give you a clue or just Google Jazz Bass Wiring and follow the diagram.

    Hi,

Does anyone have a 32” scale P or maybe a Jazz they may wish to part with? I’m struggling a tad with long scale in my dotage & find short scales too short.

    Thank you👍

I've an Ibanez Mezzo P/J that I'm interested in moving on but it's a 5 string.
