I threw up in the middle of tonight's gig...

Any carrots? -
Don't forget to factor in the customs charges if you buy from the US - I got stung £15 for two Jeannie's Pickguards for my Lakland, which makes the WD one look like a bargain in comparison. By the way, I tried to buy a clear one for my Sterling from WD a few months back and was told they don't keep them in stock - he told me they order them in specially from the US.

What about God Rest Ye Merry Musicmen or We Mark Kings of Orient Are..sorry, I'll get my donkey.

I do have obligations to the rest of the band and I believe I fulfil them but that's not why I play. I get pleasure playing to audiences and only play/practice at home to be good enough to do that. During the last five years as a gigging guitarist, I never picked up my Strat between gigs and some of those were a month apart. In fact the rest of the (guitar) band used to have a standing joke about me that if I broke a string at the gig, it'd still be there - broken at the next gig.

I've just ordered some TI flats and I'll let you know how I get on. My Sterling has a Nordstrand pup and a maple board and it's really aggressive sounding especially through my GK rig. I just want too see if I can calm it down a bit.
+1 *applauds* Shame about the band tho. Wouldn't you miss it?
I would Steve, I love playing live and TBH, it's the only reason I play an instrument but it isn't what it used to be. I just know if I'm not in a band doing gigs, I'd never pick a bass up again. I sometimes wonder if my constant equipment changes are really my way of sustaining interest.
Alan You're more than welcome to try the Villex Bob Glaub. It may hit your desired sonic sweet spot (SSS). All the best, I can feel your anguish in your search for the perfect sound. Of course I understand that you can't get one off the shelf. Peter
Hello Peter, I will get up soon - I can't walk at the moment! I've just been dabbling with my EBS Microbass into the power stage of my GK1001RBII and it's hard to imagine a better sound but experience tells me that the sounds you get in your bedroom are nothing like you get at The Queens Loin on a Saturday night at gig volume
HOLY COCK THATS GORGEOUS!
So's my holy cock...but thanks fella. -
Everyone should have one Froilan - a genuinely superb piece of kit.
Retiring?
Gigs aren't what they used to be, half empty pubs / disinterested punters / venues disappearing / sound limiters and whinging neighbours. I can see the writing on the wall with the band too - never rehearse / no new songs / no communication between gigs etc etc and I've always said that when this band goes pear shaped, that's it. I don't think I'd have the stomach to start again with another band. Sad but true.

Thanks fella - that's nice and easy. I suspected it was something like that but wasn't sure which hole to stick my jack into at the amp (send or return). Thanks again

I'm thinking of putting some TI flats on my Sterling to achieve a more trad sound. Has anybody done this with theirs and was it a good move?

Thanks fellas, it really is a stunning bass but I find myself constantly twiddling the preamp to find an active sound I like. Then I end up switching it to passive and kaboom - tone heaven, BUT - with no tone control in passive mode which frustrates me. To be fair, others have tried to help but I'm utterly hopeless. I'm going to persist with the preamp for now and see how I feel about it after Christmas. -
I think I have my new EBS Microbass sussed apart from one thing. Apparently I can bypass the preamp on my GK1001RBII and just use the power stage so that all the tone comes from the EBS - which I like. The only way to do this is to connect into the amp via the send/return sockets of the effects loop - excuse my stupidity but can someone tell me what is the correct way to hook up the EBS to this whilst retaining full functionality?

Could it be that I am now content with my gear?
niceguyhomer replied to franzbassist's topic in General Discussion
When I started playing bass about two and a half years ago, I started with an American P and a small combo. Today, having been through a myriad of equipment changes trying to find something I really like, it depresses me to think that I really want is to get back to a Precision and a small combo but can't - because nobody's buying anything and I'm stuck with my gear. -

No idea why Steve and if I say so myself, we do a good rendition too - beats me.

Valve Preamp or Pedal (BDDI,Valvedrive).....
niceguyhomer replied to nottswarwick's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Chris, I've just bought an EBS Microbass II and I think it's brilliant. You can do all sorts of things with it including adding 'drive' and 'edge' to you sound but it is subtle. I used to have an EBS Valve Drive too and that added some nice drive and warmth without compromising on articulation. Both expensive to buy but IMO worth the outlay. -
