Knock yourself out, Faithless. I never buy standards cds and am reluctant to buy any cd with even one standard on because its lazy programming. If anyone has anything new to say on Autumn Leaves, let me know. Until then, I stick with 200 versions I already have and listen to some of the new stuff!
Ok, will do, but I can bet all these guys could play bop before they done this: What I'm missing about your opinion on this - how do we get our head around jazz - from the day one checking out Glasper rather than Lester Young? You must be kidding me.

Tired material? No offense, Bilbo, but I think it's the way You are looking at it. You see, the problem today is that lots of upcoming jazz cats want to look hip and play 'todays' stuff like Robert Glasper, etc, without studying tradition- bebop, and then wondering why their stuff is not happening. What's really turning Jazz into museum thing is not the old stuff - its the tandem of todays 'modern' stuff + the ability to record and get it to the daylight for any w***er who thinks that his stuff is worth as much attention as Pat Metheny's new album. I'm back to shedding Autumn Leaves, seriously. easy Laimis

I've got a session that's way over my head...
- It wouldn't hurt to do some work on my reading. I think i was mostly bricking it as I'm not used to having to get material laid down straight from notation in a short time. Any suggestions of good ways to develop my reading are welcomed.
http://www.joehubbardbass.com/wp-content/u...er-Exercise.pdf -
Hey peeps, I've a Genz Benz Shuttle 3/10T combo in superb condition that I would like to trade to it's bigger sister - Genz Benz Shuttle 6/12T Combo and add some cash your way. Why I want to do this is that I've got a busy gig with big stages involved, and I've just bought a TC Electronic RS112 cab to add some more air, but, as amazing as Shuttle 3/10T is, Shuttle 6 would give me more volume with cabs paired.. So, for anyone who wants a stupidly light and loud combo and get some cash for your STL 6/12, let me know easy Laimis

Can the OP tell me - what does this Jaco and Jazz bass thing have to do with Jeff Berlin and his comments?
-
Well, I think that it's different where people see the frustration. Personally, I'm frustrated about becoming a good player in a long run, and the problem is that even the right practice can't guarantee me that - that's where frustration happens. In other words - even if you buy a lottery ticket, it doesnt guarantee you a million itself. Speaking of frustration at the very moment of practising - I don't feel any, because, first of all, I know that my teacher gives me the 'rightest' stuff that can be given to me, secondly - even if I cant pull off that stuff at the moment, I'm still not frustrated, because sooner or later, with focused practice (which involves repetition) I'll get past that.
-
Well, I don't really think you could get away with playing stuff like that and hitting it hard - most of the cats (Jeff Berlin, Janek Gwizdala, Damian erskine, Laurence Cottle, Hadrien) use light touch to pull it off.
-
If you're frustrated when practising, you're probably doing the wrong stuff - that's why a good teacher is invaluable. And he doesnt have to be a bassplayer necessarily..
Impressive i guess - not my bag, but impressive phrasing. My issue is that it's all been done before...
Interesting observation - and who, do you think, done THIS before? Just curious. Laimis
-
Ok, chaps, thanks for everyone's input, the issue is now sold - a brand new Tc Electronic RS112 is in my garage right now - got this cab incredibly cheap (300 pounds) from the shop. The good thing is, that I'll be able to take it with my Shuttle 3 head to 'medium' gigs where I wouldnt really need too much sound and two cabinets. Shuttle cabinet will be used for rehearsals and smallish gigs. Can't wait to try the full rig on TV season opening! Two things to sort - order customs covers for both cabs and buy Auralex Pad. easy Laimis
-
Hey Peeps, As I'm expanding my rig, I'm thinking about getting this Pad. There's one thing - I'm gonna have TC RS112 cab, it's dimensions are: Dimensions: W x H x D 35,6 x 63,56 x 49,8cm Gramma Pads: 58.5cm x 38cm x 7cm... .. Which means I need a GREAT Gramma to be able to put RS112 on it...? Or maybe I'd just stick with regular Gramma, and a few cm's won't make a vast difference? Another thing is that I'm gonna put a Genz cab on top of RS112 and tilt-it up (Genz) - I don't know if there gonna be any 'interference' between the cabs, and having Auralex underneath RS cab?.. Anyone tried hooking a few cabs on top each other with Gramma underneath? Laimis

Just got back from the shop - had a blast checking out RS112 paired with my Genz Benz combo - it added so much 'air', it's just ridiculous. As for weight, for 12" cab it didn't seem too bad, but size still bothers me a bit though - sadly, I cant just cut it into two pieces I think I'll get it, if there won't appear any other cabs out there in Sale section soon. Laimis
-
Eh, TC still is the first option, because seller refused to ship Promethean cab.. I'll go to the shop today to try RS112, and try persuade myself I can 'sarcrifice' hard portability and heavy weight for 12" speaker and TC value..

Hmmm, just spotted a relatively cheapish Ibanez Promethean 1x10 cab, which is lightweight enough (9kgs/20lbs) - the only thing I can't find about this cab is impendance - if it is 8ohm cab - does anyone know about them? It should do the job, I think, and I wouldnt end up spending shitload of money on extension cab. The second nearest option would be a new TC Electronic RS112 cab (I'd get it for 300 pounds) - it would give me more 'air', than a 10" cab, but, as I've said, it's stupidly big and quite heavy... What do you guys think? easy Laimis
I thought 15/8 sounded a bit arsey in the description. It's a bar of 4 and a bar of 7/8 which isn't the trickiest time sig for guys of this calibre to feel. I guess that's where Chris Coleman is having the most fun tho. Interesting responses and no outright flaming from anyone- for sure he isn't to everyones's taste. On watching it again it's his fluidity on some of those runs that blows me away.
Well, Coleman has no problem with that 15/8, but check out Hadrien - how many times did he actually outline "1" rather than playing a 4/4 idea over that? I mean, it's like robbing a listener - in this case you can play in 2434/857 signature, and it won't matter if you pull 4/4 stuff, man
-
it makes me smile when such threads come in, and there always will be someone who will come in and say something like: "Well, this is ok, but I much prefer <Larry Graham, less notes> (insert anything you want) over this". I mean, come on, it's like when someone offers you some pizza with ham, and you say: This is ok, thanks, but I prefer chocolate with hazelnuts over this....... What the f*ck? It's just two different things you cant really compare. Back to the topic, it's one of the most interesting Hadrien's solos I've heard so far. He's a complete mutha regarding facility on instrument.
-
Really nice stuff and I appreciate Hadrien's chops - I think they've done the same thing (15/8) in Cafe Cordiale, NAMM - you can find it one tube. And, though I may not be competent enough to discuss this thing, but let me ask you something - what's the point of doing the 15/8 thing if you're laying down plain 4/4 ideas over that? It's something that great Irish bassplayer Ronan Guilfoyle talks about, check this out: http://www.ronanguilfoyle.com/press-group-8.html PS Hey, this one's is also really cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZO1gaJiy0...feature=related Laimis

TC RS210 would be too much, I think, and not that portable. The 112 version is still too heavy and too bulky(why they made him like that??) for my liking.. Let's leave those as extra options. What pisses me off, is that I could hardly 'tilt-up' (or is that function called 'tilt-back'?.. Genz cab has that) two separate cabs, put one on each other, without upper cab falling off. Is there any solution to that?
-
Oh, there's a chance to take TC Electronic RS210 or 112 cheaply enough from my local shop, but are they gonna work ok with Shuttle 3? (i'm total noob on those 'ohms' issues) And, are those TC cabs being taken as 'lightweight'? I lifted them in shop, and they were way too heavy for my 'lightweight' understanding..
