Yes... can't imagine what someone did to cause that damage. At least the chassis are in production and available.

The tele would be a good balance but a LP and and SG is a tough wall of sound to get thru, generally. IME unless the gtrs are really disciplined.
JTUK... do you not like the tone of the Barefaced cabs you've played? Frank.
No, but to be fair, I didn't like the look of the cab from the off so 5 mins or less was enough. Not a fan of 15's anyway... so this was never going to be a winner. I've played 2..one was a compact thing...and the other I'm not sure. I didn't like the other players thru them either... but I can't say their usual tone is my thing at all...hence my TE story above.
Didn't Andrew Levy play on early Jamiroquai stuff?
I thought Graham Edwards did..

Assume you mean for P.A... not a fan of Mackie subs at all... If you want small and relatively light, then the Yam DXS12 is ok.. Just be reasonable what you expect it to do. There is a reason why the better subs are generally heavy 15 and 18's For budget prices...relatively, the RCF 705/905's are a step up, IMO.

Always hated the GP pre amp... and the cabs, tbh.. I guess I was never a fan enough and was so glad when SWR raised the bar by some margin, IMO. But it is also true, IMO, that TE shook every body up in the 80's and the Twin valve was a good effort even with the GP7... I sold it for SWR-which I still have ampwise-but no longer use. Vaguely regret sellling the twinV or look back quite fondly on it, at least.

My 2p is that the LF would need to paired with a higher end element...probably a mid size midrange chassis and not a horn....depending on the x-over and the horn, of course.
Yes, here we go again. I was hoping to actually pin down some facts here but we still have smoke screen and slight of hand JT - I have no trouble understanding plain English. If you read through your post you didn't say 'guys I know' which presumably limits it to that rarified bubble you seem to inhabit, but 'I know of' which is something different. I would say 'I know of' if I had read it on here. But I guess all the satisfied Barefaced cab owners on Basschat don't fit your model, so you ignore them. My bottom line is that I still don't know why you have this jihad against Barefaced. You are not contractually obliged to keep it up, you know. Just accept that some people like them.
Guys I know of are guys I know and can 'verify'...not randoms that I don't.
You may not be looking for an argument, ern500, but there are plenty of others ready to pounce on anyone who says they are not keen. As we have already seen on this thread. There are plenty of things I like about Barefaced, and Alex comes across as a really nice and very capable guy. What I'm not so keen on, however, is the hype. There is also a small but very vocal faction on this forum who like to heap unquestioning praise on the Barefaced product (very often quoting from the web site) yet are unable to accept the slightest criticism without becoming extremely aggressive. Look at Discreet's aggressive post further up the page, or on page 2, where Paul S. accuses JT of undertaking a *jihad* on Barefaced. I'm not keen on that either, as I don't think it's in the spirit of Basschat.
I happen to think Stevie speaks a great deal on sense on cabs... so he knows a lot more than some people credit him for I strongly suspect he knows enough to pick up any off axis claims Talking of which there are plenty of stories ...but since they are a) heresay... ( been repeated from a few other sources, mind you...) and the person who told me (very trusted) asked me not to repeat so I don't mention them here. My initial point was to balance a posters impression that the cab was the crowd favourite... and that that poster could/should use the search facility for alternative views. That is what I'd be doing as I would want to know of any potential views that were less than glossy. Why wouldn't you? oh well..!!!
I had the AG4j70s in my 75 Jazz. On their own I thought they sounded great - really tight bass and growly highs, but found I was getting lost and having to boost some midrange in any band that had more than one guitar...They have quite a scooped sound, and a bit lacking in the low mids I reckon. Tried Nordstrand 70s winds, but I've settled on Bare Knuckle PE Jazz for the minute. Great sounding pickups!
Incidently, what gtrs did the two play..?

I'm going along to an 'audition' this week.. I pretty much know I'll do the one gig they have in the books ..or have mentioned so far. Other than that...I'm keeping open minded.... or trying to be

My current fave is Ready Freddie's playing on Steely Dan's tour Think fast in Cincinatti https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeniR2wP6kg Consummate playing from a consummate sideman. Listen to it on a good sound system.
At the end of the day I'm a bass guitar player in a bar band. It's really not much to be proud of. But if you want to criticise me and cut it down, that's ok. How serious do you want to take me? I'm not an expert on any of this. My post are my opinions just like everyone else here. If you detect rudeness it's cultural in my opinion. Blue
It is all cool... that is what we are here for banter on bass... If people don't agree, no need to go around the houses making the same point over and over. I get that you love what you do... and if you aren't proud of your band, then I wouldn't expect anyone else to be... What is not to like...? 1st rule..please yourself... which is what I try and do and then trust that others get it. If they don't...be over their heads, rather than under it... FWIW, we differ about gigs, but then I'm not having to live by your band rules so not really an issue ..all round. I like that you love your band work. Just my 2p...

What part of guys I know are you having trouble understanding then?

My two faves atm... are Will Kennedy and Fritz Lewark. Other than that I never take lists like that seriously.
You see, this is exactly the kind of thing that makes you so predictable JT. Please show us the statistics upon which you make this statement. Does Alex send you his monthly sales returns so you can compare those with the cabs that are on sale here? Do you keep detailed notes of people selling on G1 and G2 to upgrade to G3? Because, otherwise, this is just another one of your baseless, prejudiced - and as such worthless - remarks.
5... 3 have sold them and 2 are still gigging them this year. As it happens the 2 guys still using them... well, they used to run TE... and they haven't got a better sound with the 'trade-up'. But to be fair, they weren't known for their sound anyway.
I don't think there are that 'many' people who have an opposite opinion. And those few that do inevitably haven't used a Barefaced cab in anger and have some kind of weird anti-Barefaced agenda that remains a mystery to me. Is it jealousy? Well done for bothering, though. They also do the maths, build superbly-braced and damped lightweight cabs and install drivers that have been designed by themselves and manufactured by Eminence which consistently out-perform the competition.
I generally don't of late... but since you asked so nicely. I'm pretty sure (certain) I know more people who don't regard them but don't post here than the other way round. I also know of more sellers than keepers so they didn't keep them for a reason. But all people have to do is used the search facility and they'll be able to find plenty of historic arguments. In those threads you'll find people who love them, and people who don't. If any one has a strong opnion either way, I assume they've done their homework...
tend Thanks for the replies! It seems BF is the crowd favourite. Might go for the Supertwin / 2 Super compacts and throw the Rumble 4x10 under it for the bigger stuff.
I don't think this is true for the forum as a whole, but these threads about certain cabs tend to be very polar... and many people who have an opposite opinion about BF don't bother. You could always use the search facility but the BF fans tend to post many drooling threads very often so the more 'balanced' or pros/cons posts could get swamped.

Yep, the 70's slap for me.... even though I really wanted the 60's to win the vote.. The 60;s shade fingerstyle, but we are talking fine margins and also varibles from a bass we aren't using ourselves. That is why I say I could live with all 3 as the inherrent character is there... and you could probably compensate EQ wise that minute amount. As i say..can't hear the Hot at all. I prefer thinner as a starting point as you can add to that... you can't add tone to a thick sound, IMO...
-
Sure, you can only go on this snapshot and context. I think I'd be able to use the 60, 70's and HC ... and I prorbaly put them with an Ag pre. Something subtle as the character in the pickups seems there... you just need to use the Pre to enhance or slight boost and not swamp it. I would also like a passive option too.
-
I know what you mean about those N3's but I'm enjoying the typical Fender pan options. Not sure of the non passive option atm... and there are still one or two harsh/brash options that you need to dial out of the Am Delux pallet but I've not even touched the amp EQ so it is a work in progress. Entirely useable but not nailed it for the sounds I've got in mind.

Another one for you B5.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2hVC7pkBqI&ebc=ANyPxKpSzJEhWZhAC92Mg1DEV6ZeaSKJQbFDL3C4HV4n0p_dTzAiDvVvMGHT-uSa2L39P91Dttzjzo12rqRj-htQ_yC6S18IWg

I thought the 70's shaded it but could live with 60's...or the HC at a push... for all non plectrum styles Didn't get the hot's at all...thought they strangled the tone. I was thinking of these for an American j5... but will continue to work the N3's. The active pre was weak at first, I thought, but it can be pretty subtle and surpringly versatile. The reason I researched these was that Aguilar pre amps and/or pick-ups were in my thinking. I might look at them for another bass though.. good demo.

What are your choices/thoughts from this demo and why? http://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be
A few things to think about with festivals. You should be getting paid. The organizers should make things easy and pleasant for the bands. Good stage management, lights, sound and good backline should be provided. Be suspicious of festivals that make things hard for a band to get on stage. If you get one of these letters with a laundry list of things the band can't do. Tell the organizers to get bent, unless they're paying big bucks. Time slots are important too. In the States a 12 noon time slot on a week day, even at the HUGE festivals you'll only be playing to a handful of people. Blue
Agree about time slots and last on a saturday night at a beer festival when people have been drinking all day isn't always the best slot. It really depends how good the organisation is... what sort of stage or event security as even a 1000 people can be a nightmare if things kick-off....and it only needs a very small number in that group to have things go very wrong. Price-wise... HAS to be well run and pay better than pub work....but too many festivals don't or can't budget for bands properly. Around here, it is pretty easy to know which those festivals are by the bands that play them...
