So I've decided that this probably isn't the bass for me at the moment. Had a couple of enquiries about selling this but I've no idea of the value. I've stuck it on ebay with no reserve so I guess we'll let the market decide how much its worth! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111088750445

Guys, thanks for the input so far. Kind of confirming my suspicions about whether it would be worth it and having read StingrayPete's thread about his Gedo bass I'm thinking that might be the way forward. Typing on my phone right now so will post more tomorrow. Cheers Mal

Always been keen to get into playing double bass so when I was offered this old thing I jumped at the chance but am now wondering if this is really going to be the best way to get into it. I have little to no knowledge on the matter so am looking for any advice on the following. I think its a ply wood bass, no idea of how old it is and from having a general poke around I think its got some serious problems. First up would the bridge - looks almost like it is the wrong size for the bass and someone has hacked off the feet in order to get the strings close to the fingerboard? Looking inside the f holes the bass bar (I think thats what its called??) has also come away from the front of the body - it also has two sound posts, thats not right is it? So my question would be - do we think its worth the hassle of getting this old beater taken to a luthier and paying what I'm guessing will be a substantial amount of money to get it fixed up?? Or would I be better scrapping this one, and saving my money for something in better condition? Ooh, will have to listen to this later on. Picked up Jose James new album last week which is also produced by Mr Palladino - its sublime, very funky but laid back at the same time.
Several weeks ago I offered to pass on Howard's number to concerned Basschatters. In that time only two people have asked. It would seem that some people would rather diss him on here, even though he won't read it himself. Not impressed. The guy offers excellent work at mates-rates prices. He has hundreds of satisfied customers but as soon as he experiences a few logistical problems people start sticking the knife in. Unbelievable.
+1 Always had great service from Howard.
That was me BTW. Should read: "Kevin does play a bit of bass but he confesses he has no great knowledge as it’s more of a hobby and so would prefer not to participate in an actual interview. Also, his filming schedule for Grand Designs is very hectic, which doesn’t allow him much time to do requests of this nature."
That's a shame, I'd be interested to hear a bit from him. Thanks for asking though!

Grabbed a couple of screen shots of said bass, any ideas on identification?

Just been watching Kevin McCloud's Man Made Home. Not only is the shed that's he's made awesome but also spotted him sitting on the porch plonking away on a nice looking acoustic bass. Did anyone else see this? Wondering what kind of bass it was?

One of my favourites from my old band, you'll have to forgive the false start!

Clearing out a few projects and this is going spare. Plenty of detail about these on this thread: http://basschat.co.u...hl__sue%20ryder In pretty much perfect condition, this has hardly seen any use. The only change I made was to add a tortoiseshell scratchplate. Neck pocket is 64 x 100 x 19mm - I can confirm that it will take a squier neck perfectly. Price is £40 plus £10 postage (can be collected from Nottingham) - SOLD
