1. Does this count?? They're not on a board. I'm sure I could find and old piece of wood in the garage if the rules require it!! (Classified dark matter excluded from photo for your protection.)
2. hear hear oxblood!, there's no excuse for insulting tripe and drivel or any other meat by products.
3. Perhaps this is closer? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=...263&doy=5m7
4. You probably need something like this... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=...252&doy=5m7 and someone with a soldering iron and a steady hand. I'd like to help but I'm more than a few miles up the road!!
5. You may find that the output jack socket is starting to fail. I've had a couple of failures on different (admittedly cheap) guitars specifically the open style of jack (looks like two bits of bent metal). Replacement parts are cheap so it might be worth trying this as a first step. Although if you happen to have an active bass - have you checked the battery? Checked it with different amps too? I'm sure you'll find the problem. Cheers TV
6. ALSO - just thought, whatever bass I do end up getting I need to leave extra money aside to get it tattooed on my other arm!!
7. Yeah, I had a search on the dreaded FleaBay and turned up only 40 related items after a GLOBAL search. Either I did summit wrong or there just aren't that many out there? hard to believe! Good suggestion tho mate - thanks.
8. That must some unusual mike - don't they usually have XLR conections?
9. Found this through Google, maybe I could beat the local shops down with it! http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...2969/a/r/e/base
10.
can you visit the guy selling the lakland? or is he too far away?
Well the Lakeland is in Swindon, I'm in Edinburgh and he'd prefer a local sale. Local could be UK but I reckon he means closer than that. Also chrkelly is selling an MM5 silver not natural - he's in London. I don't have enough frequent flyer points or airmiles to get down to these guys and shipping guitars seems to have resulted in damaged goods according to some chatters around. I know beggers can't be choosers but guitars on the doorstep seem more tempting! -- ARGH - I'll add G&L to the list to check out when I visit all the shops.
11. Really? how very interesting... more details please! could you possibly post a picture? er, how much would you be looking for? any trade opportunities or bartering which could be done?
12. Thanks for all your posts, very useful advice. I like the look of the Sandberg although it seems to lean towards the warick style which doesn't seem to suit me (I really don't know why!). That Lakeland for sale also looks good but I really like to play the guitar before parting with any greens. So, we've not mentioned any Yamahas that may be half decent then? I've seen a TRB1005 NT Natural 5 String, looks lovely but haven't played it - anyone got any views on it?? I'm thinking you may laugh but my son's yamaha trumpet was really good! There's a couple of SUB's in the local shops I think - I'll check them out. I've been searching for any second hand deals too but nothing has come up yet, *sigh*. I'll be spending a day up town going round all the shops soon. I'd prefer to spend say 600 rather than 1400 (although I really did like that MS 5 man!!) damn damn and double Damn!- my indecision continues. Thanks again everybody
13. HELP. I'm in a position to purchase and it's torture! I've seen and played a really nice MusicMan Stingray 5, all maple with black pickguard (same looks as my precision). However the price tag of circa 1400 is bit of a stumbling block for me. Tried two waricks in the shop and just didn't like them at all, they cost even more but just didn't feel right (call me strange if you like). Anyway - the question is... Can I get a similair instrument to the stingray 5 for less?? A S.U.B. perhaps? someone suggested a Variax Bass ("You could make it sound like any bass you want" ), what about yamaha, ibanez? Whatever it is I need it to do original rock style numbers through a Hartke 3500 (I've read stuff about basses not liking amps!). I'm so tempted to sell my soul for the MM. Thanks for any views/suggestions you can offer. PS. I haven't bought a bass in 10 years which is why I'm asking  (I finally bought the musicman Stingray 5 - first one I saw - after an entire day playing other basses)
14. SupaCharger: Wow! torroidal transformer - ooh err missus! I especially like the racing stripes on the top of the case! I reckon the whole band would run offa that! Cool,
15. Sorry I can't give you a review of the cabs but I can recommend the Hartke gear. I've used a 1155c combo for years now and reckon it sounds great. I tried Trace elliot gear at the time and just couldn't get a sound I liked. My rig has the older 3500 model of head but still it's very versatile and certainly of pro quality. The combo has a 1x15 and a 1 x5 set up which seems to work well. I'd only change the cab for something smaller probably just to save my old back but unless someone offered free Ampeg stuff to me I'll be sticking with Hartke.
16.
... http://www.guitareffectspedals.com/power-all.html the Godlyke Power Pump...
Short answer, YES. What you need to be aware of is the TOTAL current draw from all the effects units in the chain. I couldn't see any figures for the MXR blowtorch other than 18Vdc so not sure what current (mA) it draws. Any of the PSU's like the Godlyke or Diago can power several pedals at once, having a pedal running at 18Vdc rather than 9Vdc shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't have loads of other pedals from the same supply. There are a lot of variables to consider but I reckon either PSU mentioned above would fit the bill - the godlyke seems to already have an 18Vdc adapter on the market. The earlier question of Hum from the step up (18Vdc) adaptor... shouldn't be an issue as I reckon the adapter will be using solid state components rather than wound coils given the size! I haven't used these products - perhaps other 'Chatters' can give you a proper testimonial!
17.
Hmmm well the dream bass would be a customised Thumb, simple as that really, or a Streamer...

Mine would have a magic 5th string which disappeared with the flick of a switch.
I like the idea of a custom THUMB! maybe with special attachments for cooking like a swiss army knife for bass players or a button under the nail to active superfastslap-mode? Disappearing strings sound cool! how about lasers instead of strings like the "light harp" idea? simply wave your hand over the bass and lovely tunes would come out! Mine would be all new hi-tech composites and electronics to disguise the horrible sound properties taht would create. super expensive and sexy looking hitech art gallery nonsense - That's what i want (just after I win the lottery).
18. True. Customer service is important. I've dealt with SunPower once - local UK techie was very good, knew the products of the top of his head - enough to let me know I'd ordered the wrong supply for work which is why it ended up in the parts bin in my house!
19. DR "High Beam" MR-45's from Strings Direct.
20. Here's mine.. That's right - it's all in the garage and I couldn't be bothered going to get a photo! hee hee, haa haa, woo woo jibber <twitch>.
21.
I heard somewhere that the boss (?) power brick wasn't very good? anyone know why?
If you mean the Boss PSA120 Power Supply - it doesn't put out as much current as the Godlyke and similair PSU's (200mA compared to 1700mA). Which is a worry given several of the boss pedals require 300mA or more!! I've stumbled on a "SunPower" 9V supply with 1.67A output (very similair technical spec to the Godlyke PSU) All I need to do is put a 2,5mm DC plug on the end with reversed polarity and it should work a treat! free power - great!
