1. Daughter : what music are you listening to ? Me: Pink Floyd Daughter: are you in that band? So , so tempted.
2.
Your not alone.I hate the whole idea of facebook and cant seeme ever changing my mind. my bands pages are all done by othe members, the whole likes and facebook friends thing just seems silly. Maybe its old age, or maybe I,m just a miserable old git.
If you don't like it, don't use it.
3. Don't forget to "like " the basschat page.
4. I had a baritone to set up for a friend, didn't do anything for me. I have an acoustic bass with 32" and it is certainly a tempting idea. With the 32" I could but the bridge further along the body and probably use the original routing (or at least cover it with tele style bride)
5. I've had a quick look through and liked anything that I thought we have something in common with and those who took the time to like us. I will return and check out the music as time allows.
6. I ordered 50 earlier this evening, i'll report back.
7.
tele body is very short so it would neck dive like crazy as a bass, How about 32" scale to help neck dive Cut 5mm off the top and stick a nice piece of wood on the top Stick a 50's single coil P pickup in the bridge jazz position and make it look like a telecaster esquire
Some good points: Re: neck dive, I'd prefer a 34" if poss , so I'll check it with a spare neck before I commit to anything. Re pickups , I was thinking a single coil neck and possibly an uncovered standard P at the bridge. something like this only I'll round off the bobbin to look like a single pickup like you find on a tele guitar.
8. I've been thinking of building a tele bass for a while now when this came my way: It's off a Mexican Fender and seems to be solid maple. It's big enough to make a bass but it has routings in unsuitable places. I could: Make a scratch plate/ bridge that covers up the holes. Fill everything up and re-finish. Just use it as a template , make a body from scratch and give this one to my brother to make himself a guitar. Discuss...
9. I'd contact the vendor with a view to sending the gig bag back and put the saddle screw back myself.
10. I bought some cheap machine heads for a bass I'm building , they seem fine but the screws that came with them break if you look at them (one broke because I though about them. There goes another. Damn.) I'm thinking of getting some of these , anyone tried them , any good? 11. I'm sure I can live with it, it's about as far into the dusty end as you can get.
12. I can't think of any problem that the knots might cause in this situation.... unless you know otherwise?
13. I found exactly to fretless sound I was after with a bitsa bass costing about £80 with pickups off a Lindo bass (about £120 new)
14. I couldn't resist screwing the neck on for some pose testing: Close up of the boxwood board : Along side the second prototype (I'm so pleased with the proto that I'm keeping it as a rough gigs backup bass)
15. I've been kicked out of a couple of bands who've gone on to achieve bugger all.
16.
The whole Ziggy Stardust LP, The first 10 mins of Quadrophenia and Dreamer by Supertramp.
I have played Five years and Starman live but not Rock n' Roll Suicide
17. And a rather massive guilty pleasure! I just love the enormity of it when it get's going. I just can't see any likelyhood that circumstances/need/appropriate musicians/opportunity will ever come along.
18. I spent last night shaping the neck: Close up of boxwood board, it really doesn't do it justice, I'll get a better picture when I've polished it up, it will take a high gloss finish without any sort of varnish or coating:
19. Sell it as a "reliced" neck to cover the cost of a new one! Seriously, If you like the neck you should think about getting that one re-finished
20. The neck is taking shape: Trial fitting:
21. I do it because I like to and it does nobody else any harm. Most languages assign gender to inanimate objects as a matter of course, it's only English that doesn't.
22. I just fondled my flute, no idea what it looked like, the song went down well.
23. My fretless is ply , sounds great. I suspect that crappy sounding plywood basses would be crappy sounding even if the body was replaced with solid wood, until someone built identical basses one wood , one ply , we'll never know for certain.
