1. Played with Back Before Breakfast on the same stage at 12.30 (should have been 12 but things took a while to get going) I was thinking of staying over but after spending half an hour being passed from pillar to post by security , none of them knew where an open camp site was! I drove home. I passed you in the car park as you arrived! Hope it went well for you.
2. I probably spent About £150, most of that is still re-usable parts. The wood will heat my house for an evening next winter (if the woodworm don't scoff the lot) I've learned an enormous amount, I've enjoyed the process and it ain't over just yet...
3. After playing it for a while I noticed several things: 1 the Wizard pickups don't have the va va voom I was after. 2 the neck is about as stable as a game of Jenga in zero gravity 3 The bloody woodworm is back. So , after stripping out the pickups (now on sale) the bass is quite literally on the wood pile. On the plus side I've come to the realization that the second prototype is a great bass, I'll stick with it for now.
4. How about a basschat strap? or gig bag? I was thinking of buying something in the store to make a contribution but I don't need a lanyard or polo shirt. The idea may require too much outlay up-front , but I'd buy a strap if you sold them.
5. Only a couple of months old, just not what I was after, I still have the box (embellished by my six year old daughter) £50 + postage (collection also welcome) I'd be happy to trade for another set of pickups, stock Fenders ect
6.
I survived 28 years before it happened to me. I did have 2 bass then, but seldom played. Felicity Fender wasn't named in the divorce proceedings as a co-respondent and I still have her, though she has now been joined by my other lovers. Seriously, 25 years seems to signal the end of the line for many. Kids grown, mortgage paid, or nearly. Is this all there is to life........?
Yes, and music.
7. I have recently separated (amicably) from my wife, no drama, no third parties, just after 25 years we've grown apart, no hidden underlying cause... or so I thought... I was just round at a friend's house and apparently they know six couples in and around our small town who have all recently split up, all of these couples contained a bass player.
8. Tempted as well, I'm moving house this week, if they're still available when the dust settles I'll be in touch.
9. Thanks, I just need to move house, make futher enquiries , sell my Wizard 64s and (probably) get some.
10. These? http://www.fender.com/en-GB/accessories/pick-ups/original-jazz-bass-pickups/
11. I have a 2006 US Standard Jazz, are the pickups Custom Shop '60s Single-Coil Jazz Bass? Fender use these on American Standard series now, but I seem to remember that the US Standard series was dropped from the range for a couple of years. What do I have? I may be looking to get hold of a matching set for a build I did a little while ago,
12. Looks stylish enough but for me it has to be something closer to the Fender design. Go with Skidder's suggestion.
13. I've never seen inside any couriers warehouse but I've wachted many drivers grab a package by the strapping and thrown it into the back of a van to land on a disorganized heap in the back. Having worked in a despatch dept of a laboratory supplies company I know how absolutely pointless "fragile" stickers are , if anything it marks a package out for "special treatment" It amazes me how little respect some people have for the goods in their care.
14. In times past they used to tie gut around the neck to make frets :
15. Other things to consider : how old are your strings? I had similar problems, new strings made a huge difference. Also - I don't use any pedals but when I first bought a tuner pedal I just used a 3m cable in and another out , output was seriously low. Swapped the out cable for a 1' patch and it was like night and day.
16. It's given me an idea, I could irradiate the bass to kill the woodworm. all i need is two subcritical masses of weapons grade plutonium.
17. I came up with "The Slotin Excursion" doesn't sound that metal but it refers to a fatal radiation accident that happened during the development of the atom bomb. It involved a plutonium sphere known as "The Demon Core" (at least one band called that) The Slotin Excursion isn't taken. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G422z8pDn4
18. It's taken, several times over.
19.
Thats a pain, I miss-read your post Thought you were stripping down and treating yourself for woodworm and soaking in wood hardener
Best not to take chances. Discreet - I'd recommend Mongolian death Worm poo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_death_worm
20. My path is strewn with cowpats from the devil's own satanic herd. The woodworm is very much alive!!!!! I've been a bit disappointed with the tone of this bass , could it be that I'm losing out because the body is more mold, holes, worms and worm poo than wood? The solution- I'm stripping it down , treating for woodworm then soaking for a few days in cellulose wood hardener.
21. "PASSIVE CIRCUITS ARE ALL ABOUT WHAT IS TAKEN AWAY FOLKS." - but do crappy pots take something away? Think of a hose pipe, think of a leaky or twisted pipe.
22. the bass in question is a new build, I wanted black knurled knobs, the cheapeast way to get them was to buy a loaded control plate from china. I used everything bar the plate itself. Compared to my prototype (plywood bitsa with pickups of a Lindo bass, same type of strings) it sounds oomphless, no vah vah voom, worn out. I was of the opinion that a pot is a pot, but I'm not so sure now, it's the only thing I haven't tried yet.
23. I used some cheap pots (they came with the knobs I wanted) my bass sounds a bit dull (I have Wizard 64 pickups and new Fender black nylon strings) and has a low output. Is it worth replacing the pots?
24. watching with interest (and something to show off)
