1. I'd just prefer not to ship them (one or both) Probably plenty of Basschatters have posted speaker cabs in the UK - I just feel nervous! I suppose if you made an amazing offer and contributed something towards shipping to NI, I would have to consider.
2.
Hey Guyl - Any idea of shipping costs within the UK?
No idea. Could be a bit awkward to ship. Would prefer not to. Could probably meet halfway. Er ... in the Irish Sea
3. Two EA VL-110 cabs for sale. I bought them new from Overwater around 10 years ago and have used them on a variety of gigs since. They are very versatile - very clear for double bass, but bassy and punchy on electric - even with a low B or octave pedal. Speaker configuration is 1x10"; 1x5" and 1x 4" tweeter. They are extremely well built and the volume and depth is pretty amazing for a cab of this size (approx H14", W17", D14", Weight 37lbs). On their own they sound great, but I almost always used them as a pair ('cos they sounded so full and deep). I will sell seperately if you insist, but would rather not split them up. Condition is good. They have always been stored and transported in (homemade) covers and never worked too hard. [s]£250[/s] £220 each or [s]£400 [/s] £350 the pair. 5. My best ever DB sound came from an EA iAMP600 which was very clean, with a very useful parametric eq. Reliability was poor though and it had to go after dying on me live 1 time too many. How do folk find the newer EA stuff such as the doubler?
6. Depends how close you are to the cab. And whether you're a shorty! We've probably all played with a guitarist or keyboardist who sits on their amp and just can't judge their volume - can be very unmusical (not to say annoying when the rest of the band can hear them louder than they can hear themselves) I try to put some distance between me and my cab to hear best. If this isn't possible, I try to tilt the cab back. I'll raise it only if very cramped.

9. Similar experiences here. You should try buying for a 6-string bass. Then you actually get treated like a leper!
10. Showman or Plonker ...... what's wrong with being both. As long as the audience are entertained!

Merton

Sold a power amp to Martin. He was perfect, but getting the amp to him was a bit fraught - mainly due to paypal giving out his wrong address and TNT thinking for themselves! He was an absolute gent throughout with lots of communication whilst it was sorted. Thanks Martin!
12. +1 to having someone look at it. That crack looks a bit worrying - again someone that knows what they're doing might be able to rectify it easy enough. You picture isn't too clear, but I'm not sure if that is a shadow pickup. If it sounds good when plugged in, who cares ....? Sounds like you're falling in love with her. Have you two been out on a date yet? (NB - guessing it's a "her")

Casapete Feedback!

Pete is now the owner of my GK amp. A lovely guy and very smooth transaction. Top Bloke. Thanks Pete
14. I agree with everything posted. There is no point in making an EUB sound like a bass guitar. You even occasionally hear amplified uprights sounding like bass guitar which is even more pointless. Its all to do with instrument and set up and there seems to be some pretty good approximations out their. My only EUB experience is with a Bridge Cetus. It wasn't the most portable EUB as it had a "proper" upright fingerboard/neck, bridge, tailpiece and scroll and a bit of a body box. It sounded awesome (better than my acoustic) and looked amazing. However traditionalists didn't like it on gigs and I did miss "feeling" the vibration of the instrument against my body. In the end it was getting left at home in favour of upright so I sold it on. I've no regrets.

16.
PM'd. I take it
PM'd back. Sorry - it is now sold to a Yorkshireman pending the usual.
17. A nice loud and punchy poweramp. I have tried it with various preamps for upright and electric bass and it always sounds briliant. I just don't seem to have gone the seperates route and it isn't getting used. (I've been keeping it as a backup, but gas is calling .....) Dimensions 19"w 1.75"h 14"d Weight 12 lbs 500w per channel 4 ohms; 300w per channel 8 ohms; 1000wbridged 8ohms Frequency +0, -1.5dB 10Hz to 20kHz@1 W RMS into 4 ohms Outputs 1/4" jack and 5-way dual binding posts. The amp is a few years old and has some superficial scratching to the casing. The fan is a little noisy in a quiet room, but unaudible when playing at gig volume. I bought it off a friend that had it from new as a monitor amp/back up in a pa rig. I know he looks after his gear and never had any problems. This is priced to sell at £140. Preferably buyer to collect from Stockport, but I will post for cost.
18. Gallien Krueger 1001RB-II I may seriously regret selling this, but gas is getting the better of me and some goodies need to go! This amp has been brilliant for me. Feels like limitless headroom - I've never needed to push it at all. Good EQ and usable contours make it very easy to find the "right" sound. Very punchy and musical. It has spent most of it's life in a rack, but there are a just few very minor cosmetic marks. Rack ears and chrome handles are included. Only one maintenance issue - had the main volume pot changed approx 2 years ago when I first got it. It was done professionally but if you look closely the new pot sticks out a touch further than the original. Not very obvious and doesn't affect performance. The spec: •POWER <1% THD: Main Amp-700W@4ohm, 460W@8ohm, 1kHz -- Horn Amp-50W@8ohm, 5kHz •COOLING: Continuously Variable Speed Fan •INPUT SECTION: Ultra low noise S/N>90dB, Clip LED, -14dB Pad, Volume, Mute Switch and Mute LED •VOICING FILTERS: 5/4 String Voicing, Adjustable Contour and Presence •EQUALIZER: Bass Specific Series Four Band Active •OUTPUT: Boost, Tweeter Level with Hi-Cut Switch and Woofer Level with Hi-Cut Switch •DIRECT OUT: XLR, Ground Lift, Pre/Post Switch and Level Control •PATCHING: Send, Return and Tuner Out •SPEAKER OUTPUT: Two 1/4" and Two Horn Bi-Amp compatible Speakon Connectors •WEIGHT: 22 lbs •DIMENSIONS: 19"W x 3.5"H x 8"D Included is a Gator gig back. It's a little bit big - but gives reasonable protection if you're not rack mounting. Price £300. Would obviously prefer buyer to collect from Stockport, but will post for cost if required or could meet partway if practical. 19. I haven't had it long, and always use the Fishman preamp to deal with anything like that. Sounds like you need to try one yourself!
20.
Yeah man you need to come round and hang out/jam again I love being shown up
As if!! (You smoothie!)
21. I just got a Shuttle 6 and play both electric and upright. In a previous life I had an EA iAmp, but have never tried the Doubler. The Shuttle is definitely an electric bass head, and although the upright sound is good, for me it is a little "electric" sounding. The EA by comparison was dry and clinical - perfect for upright but not ballsy enough for electric in a noisy mix. I always use a Fishman pre for the Upright, so leave the Shuttle EQ pretty much untouched. At the end of the day its a compromise when doubling. If I had the EA today, I'd take something to fatten the electric bass sound. With the Shuttle (and with my superb GK before that) I take something to clean up the upright.
22.
So this 9 tube preamp will be paired with my Strategy 400 and Alembic F-1X Preamp, not quite sure how I'm going to hook it up, likely an A/B/Y box between the Alembic and Trace with the Trace output going to the Alembic FX Return.
Wow! I bet that will sound earthquakingly huge! I've no idea what a saturation meter tells you, but it's sounds extremely cool. Can't wait to hear how you get on with this.
23.
I like the sound of the styrofoam casing... Do any of you use one of these cases and do they seem durable? Also, do the ones that come with the Gear4Music bass differ much in quality to a normal, more expensive styrofoam case?
Bought a second-hand styrofoam case, so not sure where it originally came from, but I suspect it was a "cheapie" Gear4Music style. It's not rolls royce quality, but it has protected my bass perfectly when rattling around the back of a transit for the last few years and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. It is very bulky - no good in a standard car, but it is very light for it's size. Wheels are small but handles in all the right places so easy to manoever.
24. I have the previous 350 to you. (Red front with no crome) Bought around 15 yrs ago. Love it, but not quite powerful enough. I keep it as a back up. A few years ago, I bought a 750x. Hoped it would be like the old 350 with more power. Sound wasn't as warm but it was okay. However, it was heavy and had reliability issues so it had to go. Since had an EA, GK and Shuttle, but non can beat the warm but clean musical sound of that old 350.
