1.
Thanks man, so do I loads of fun to be had on it. I'd love to see this tidied up by Shep on one of his Really Awesome Pedal boards!
Maaaaaan... I'd love to be let loose on that!! Get on the launch offer in the affiliates forum! Awesome board though dude. Big PitchFactor fan.
2. Cool. All good. If it doesn't work out for you lemme know and I'll take it of you at the price you paid. I was considering one for a compact setup...
3. Have it delivered to your work address. I've never once paid customs on anything that gets delivered to a business address. Maybe a coincidence... but one that I'm happy with!
4. The standard Xero is pretty much the cheapest option mate, even with the import taxes. It's still going to be under half the price of a Moog or a custom unit.
5. I'll bring my Canon 500d and film some stuff. Tom, if your other half has a spare tripod could she bring it? Saves me bringing one along (as I'll forget!).
6. Cool. That was pre-IR bass era too. This is what the new bass can do: http://bitnormalrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-five-thunders I'll speak to Jarman, if you fancy them doing a short set then consider it done.
7. I got a message from Matty & Jarman today from Men Imitiating Machines in Australia (amazing live 2-piece electronic act). They are coming to the UK in a few weeks on tour (I helped and signed the visa applications etc). It said, "We've been looking around what's on in the UK while we have a few days downtime and saw the Basschat meet up. Lets go!" So you may see me and the MIM boys. Jarman plus an Industrial Radio Midi bass, which there are literally only a handful of in the world. If its of interest to people, I'm sure they'd play a 20min set for everyone if there is a PA handy. Providing that all works out I'll bring my Roscoe LG as well
8. If you wanted something Muff-esque, look to the Tarkin - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/212627-tarkin-fuzz-demo-look-and-listen/page__pid__2146951#entry2146951 Incidentally, I found the same things with the Swollen Pickle!
9. Correct. The pitchflex setting is a fully programmable 'whammy'.
10. Please Delete
11. Great show last night. Closed event for a friends video shoot. We warmed the crowd Was with my new 2-piece, all improvised electronica act. Seriously... no rehearsals, no writing songs and no drum kit. This is the way forward!!!
12. I'm not a HUGE midi user, and don own that particular unit, but if you are usin the midi through then I would think that you would be sending the same signal and message to both unit. I guess you 'could' (in theory). Assign some switches/pedal to send a CC that one pedal uses and the other ignores, and then the same for another set, but the chances of the 2 effects not sharing commands is unlikely.
13. It's the first interview on my shiny new website! PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass May I present Brian Hamilton of smallsound/bigsound, the man behind such politely named devices such as the **** Overdrive - A name so naughty that the forum software automatically hides it Check out what he had to say about creating some of the most sought after dirt pedals in the boutique pedal world...
14. Dudes - I'm shortly going to be launching my NEW website redesign at www.sheponbass.co.uk. I've added a readers gallery there so I would like to populate with pics of YOUR pedalboards and links to your band. Anyone that would like their board featuring please send me a photo of your board to... info -at- sheponbass.co.uk Include your name and a link to you band/music page/personal website etc. Hope you all send something in!
15. This EP has officially become the most downloaded bit of work I've ever been involved in, even though its only been out a few weeks. The response has been amazing. I don't know how many of those downloads came via Basschat, but THANK YOU to everyone that has picked up a copy (for free or otherwise).
16.
Sorry Shep, I've had my head up my arse working on this month's composition challenge track and am only just catching up with new music on here! Just tried the link you gave to the Scarecrow Tactics EP and it's not working - I'm getting a "Server not found" message. Sort it out you big tease as I'm dying to hear it!!
My mistake! Link fixed. Can you change the link in your quotes bit above (or remove it) so it works too? Sorry about that dude!
17.
but the OP's not intending tracking lower than a 5th fret A on the E string, he's playing an 8th fret C, so the octaver will play the required octave below no problem? i thought this might work pretty well for the problem seeing as its only one song.
It will, but may sound somewhat 'weak' or boomy compared to playing it on a B string. It will 'work' but may not be pretty. If he was wanting to retain the dry signal as well and add the lower octave underneath I think you'd get away with in, but having a wet only signal I think you'll find a distinctive lack of output compared to playing the octave higher. This is because the octave does not reproduce many of the upper harmonics that the string does and so while there is bass, there is very little definition to the sound. By all means give it a whirl, but I expect you'd be a little disappointed. I would strongly suggest going for a digital/polyphonic Octaver for playing much on the E string for for the improved tracking (and in most cases definition to the note). Graham I can lend you an Octaver for the cost of postage if you want to try it out? I have one or two (or 8).
18. Thanks dude! Really really appreciate it.
19. In about 10 years, when you have finished the 30 pages of that thread, you can also glance at this - http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/signal-chain-bassics-part-iv-filters.html - An article I wrote about filters and how they work. It covers some details and examples of envelope and Low Pass Filters, which will form the core of synth tones and Dubstep wobble.
20. It's out. Basschat can have the link before anyone else Patient Zero - Scarecrow Tactics If you like electronica & you like hiphop then give it a whirl! It's a 'name your price' download with no minimum so if you like please feel free to enter £0 and grab a free copy.
21. Maybe he upped his game. I saw them from the upper circle last year in Manchester so could see down on the stage and while the guitarist had a killer board, the bass player had nothing but a tuner. About time he dabbled more!
22. Here you go, 30 pages of discussion covering everything you want to know - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/72012-drum-n-bassdubstep/page__hl__dubstep Get reading! As a side note - Enter Shikari. The bass player plays clean bass only. No effects at all. All the Dubstep stuff is done with a computer and synth by Rou. Disappointing!
23. To expand on that, what you are asking for... 'To play a note an it be reproduced an octave lower' ... Can be performed by most octave pedals by turning the 'dry' volume off and turning the -1 octave volume up. Nearly all (if not all) will allow this. However, going as low as a detuned C is just not going to cut it. For analogue octavers, tracking anything lower than 5th fret (A) on the E string is tough and tends to come with an inconsistent note, glitching and a little loss of presence. Reproducing all the elements of a tone that low can be quite tough. If you bear in mind as well that your bass cab is unlikely to reproduce the fundamental of a Drop C if you we're playing it normally, expecting an Octaver to do anything even near as good a job is a no no. Some digital octavers will track much better lower down, but even they will loose definition and tracking much lower than a typical open E string. So, your understanding of an Octaver is correct, but using one to play much lower than the register of the bass is problematic.
24. It's taken far too long, but Scarecrow Tactics is released this Monday (24th!). Phew... 4 tracks, 4 MC's, 4 continents. Can't wait for you to hear it!
