Classic trustworthy workhorse, never let me down yet. Easily fills pubs and average clubs, bags of power. 210 watts of punch into a 15" speaker, 8 band equaliser, high and low boost, add a 4 ohm extension cab and it will deliver 300 watts, loads of headroom. You know what one looks like but if you want a pic I'll send one. ONLY £120. That's about 50p a watt. Bargain, even as a spare. (You NEVER know !) Might even swap for a sensible 2 x 10" cab.

Thanks guys for all the replies, you certainly know your OLP's and 'real' Stingrays ! This is the first Stingray (copy) I've had and was taken by surprise by the such cool burpy growl I've been searching for. It's just I've been used to my Yammy for a while and the missing 'sizzle' was a bit of a 'huh?' moment. I don't really care if it's subtle, the tone is the bizz. I might look into another 'pre' assuming the multi-plug is common. Cheers chaps.

Okay, maybe it's me, but my recently acquired Vintage Stingray EST 96S treble EQ control doesn't seem to do anything. The bottom and middle EQ's work fine. I've changed the battery but there's no difference. The pot just seems to very subtley change the tone a tad. My Yamaha RBX 375's treble EQ cracks windows at 10 paces and the 'fingers up the strings' grates the teeth where the Vintage doesn't do anything near it. Other than that, the tone is beautifully growly and deep.
erm... thank you but... it's the 2nd of November!!!!!! coated strings can also get dirty. They won't rust, but get dirty. Ethanol / Isopropanol (aka rubbing alcohol) / methylated spirits all will dissolve "finger cheese" and help clean strings without damaging the coating. You just need to wipe the strings gently after a long session/gig and they'll keep pretty clean. In addition... I like to wash my hands *before* I pee (afterwards too) and before I play. That also helps somewhat.
Yeah, I heard that too about clean hands. Stops you putting the skin's oil and grease onto the strings. I'll carry on with surgical spirits then. It's still Isopropanol but a different blend. My low 'B' has gone dull, so here I go. Cheers.

I've just started using Elixir Nanowebs and where I've cleaned 'ordinary' strings successfully with surgical spirits, how do you clean these guys ? Would the spirit take off the coating or is there another simple remedy for wiping them ? By the way, may I be the first to wish all low-enders a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year !

Time to let 'old faithful' go. 210 watts (thru' 1 x 15" Black Widow) of window cracking power, easily keeps up with any drummer, fills pubs and small clubs. Very good condition, never let me down yet, just looking to upgrade to head and cab. I added a 4ohm extension cab (this brings her up to 300watts) recently for fun and believe me, you don't need it ! You know what one looks like but if you want a pic, I'll put one up. I'm looking for £150 although I'm open to offers, OR I'd consider a similar wattage head for trade ?

My recently acquired ESP (LTD) B-55 tone control doesn't seem to be of the 'normal' variety. It dulls down quite well until about 20% from the end but then drops the volume down to almost nil when fully off. What's the prob ?
-
Just aquired a used ESP B-55 and although a very playable guitar, the tone control appears to do it's job except that the last 20% towards 'dull' takes the volume down until it's nearly off. Everything looks okay electrics-wise and I've even compared it to a Precision Special wiring diagram which seems the same. It's not really a problem, but just odd. Any ideas ?
Thats not how to do impedance (not ohmage, although it is measured in ohms) calculations, Bottom half of wiki You end up with about 2.67 ohms, if you connect an 8 and a 4 in paralell (the usual way) adding in paralell will only decrease the impedance no matter how high an impedance you are adding. At a guess, the amp has a 8 ohm speaker in it, and a second 8ohm would give you the 4 it is happy with, that's usual.
Ah, okay, my bad! The combo is loaded with a 4ohm Black Widow. Will this still be okay with an 8 ohm in parallel?
-
Hey chaps, I have a Peavey 300 bass combo and would like to run an extension cab from it. It says to use another 4 ohm cab but I have access to an 8 ohm 1 x 15". Can I use it without any ill effects to the Peavey? I'm probably wrong but I think it will be 6 ohms ( 4 + 8 divided by two ). I run it at present with the master on full and only about 4 on the pre-gain so it won't be working too hard.

I'm playing more bass now than rhythm and lead and am looking towards a stomp box and wondered (without being a bit Homer Simpson) if I can play bass thru' my Boss ME-50 without it throwing a wobbly ? If so, why make a bass version of the box ?
