http://ccgi.psstpsst.force9.co.uk/php/owbass.php just as good if not better than Bass Gallery..Ok maybe not ...but they still have top end basses, Overwater,Alembic,Lakland,Fender,Warwick..Check it out..
 2. Im in the market for a new bass as soom may have noticed my endless posts on the matter... ..My short list is Lakland, Sadowsky, Mike Lull (which im very keen on)..What i would like to know is how good are Overwater in this company. My max budget is £2000.00 or there abouts..I have spotted a few Overwaters i like in my price range... I would be interested in the J style bass. Dont see many about??? Apart from an orange one on here, cant remember the chaps name?? Anyone know of any soundclips of any overwaters??
 3. In my opinion there is no musician alive that can touch the genius of Beethoven and the other classic composers!! They thought about music on such a different level.. Apart from those i admire Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Anita Baker for her beautiful love songs...Billy Joel, Meshell Ndegeocello,Sting,Pink Floyd.. Steve Smith and Poogie Bell are the best drummers in the world, IMHO..
 4. Hey people. Can anyone tell me the best music shops in Bristol. Im talking higher end basses, if possible. I know Jam guitars. Just wondered if there were any others i should check out?? Thanks.
 5.
Hi guys I'm new here. So Hi. I had a Bass many years ago and stopped playing, now I want another one. I want to use it to play along to my favourte CD's. I know there is a ton of advise out there. But what would be a great bass for between £100 & £400, I am happy to consider new or 2nd hand. Some suggestions of Basses (models, brand) in this price bracket that are regarded as good buys would be really helpful. Thanks Jase The Bass
Hello bro....What did you have before Jase? I would suggest Yamaha of sorts, MIM Jazz/Precision. You could get decent second hand bass for £400.00 squid!! Im not sure if you could stretch to a second hand Lakland 44-01 or 55-01, but if you could i would do that, without a doubt!!!! If not maybe Squire Jazz deluxe. Bloody nice them!! The Lakland is the one on the right..Awsome bass..
 6.
Wow he's really good, i love his tone. I was looking at one of those rogue basses at one point too.
Thats what that bass is. Didnt know..Amazing tone. Are they expensive basses??
 7. He was in the pocket!! You cant not, nod your head to that! Sorry one more, this guy is incredible. Ohh the chops!!! Dale Black...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ThwuJVcyoA He gets into a badass groove with the drummer at 7.30..
 8. Man i love to watch/listen to these gospel cats. I read on one of his posts, that hes been playing for only 6-7 years!!!!???..He over plays sometimes but who cares. Is it something about worship that does it?? The slapping at 1.20 is so fresh. Thought i would share. 9.
99% of the planet belongs to one culture, any variations throughout the world are just minor regional aesthetic differences. I doubt any business would frequently come into contact with any of the remaining 1% of cultures which we haven't yet wiped out, unless of course your name is Indiana Jones.
Uhh? What culture is that. Do you mean humanity??
 10. Uh!! i hope no Americans are istening..Luke you so true. to an extent, but for sure even the young ones in America know what's going on. Im damn sure they dont listen to the BBC. I sure that there are strange people everywhere, regardless of what country they came from. They probably think im strange.
 11. I think this is great bass playing, not for all but still sooo musical!!!!!!!!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JClWLsuJIn0! Sorry people i dont know how to link.??
 12.
I've just put up a few new clips from some gigs I did in Monaco recently... Dave
Thanks Dave enjoyed that, oohhh that Sei tone!!! Any thoughts on your next set of tutorials? Andy.
 13. Like i said before its all about balance. Any one gets bored going over scales modes etc. You have to make it musical because thats why we do it!! I know a guitarist who doesnt know any theory at all. he doesnt even know what the notes are on the f board. But he is very good. But there in, lies a problem, he admitted to me that he only plays the riffs/patterns hes comfortable with and he knows. He has a lot of them but there still all the same. I would think that theory opens up new avenues, that you didnt think about before. When i first learned walking bass lines, i realised you didnt have to play off of the root! I could play off of the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and all sorts of inversions.. I would like to think of theory as a tool for a higher place All though i still dont think about it when playing
 14.
You're absolutely right, and as I said it is useful, the reason I am emphasising the playing aspect is that many many players I have known and taught are down on themselves because they feel insecure about their knowledge of theory. I feel that it would help them to value what they can do (the playing) the other stuff (theory) is, by comparison, easy IMO.
This is IMHO is what makes this forum great, gettings things straight in your mind about your passion, from other passionate people...Great advise J..thanks bro.. the journey continues..
 15.
Yes and remember this: When you play, you are doing the theory, the only thing you might not be able to do is explain it to someone else in words. The playing is the hard bit, the bit to get good at, what you're doing should be evident in the music you're playing, being able to explain in words is useful but IMO secondary.
I agree, but a few years ago i was in a band where chordal knowledge would have been useful to interact with the pianist. IE, walking around different chords to make the music flow more. I know more than i did then. but i cant help thinking the more i know, the more i could contribute?!
 16.
yeah the ice blue has been near the top of my list for a while! well i already have a metro UV70 (which is fanbloodytastic) so i thought why not go mad n get an NYC too!! im still not 100% sure i can afford it but once ive ordered there's no going back!!! by the time it gets here i'll be selling everything i own (apart from my metro) lol that candy apple orange certainly is a striking colour!! hmmmmmmmm
Actually they are all NYC basses bro.. you will be PM'd.
 17.
Mate, I know exactly where you're coming from. I have constant nightmares about it. I know I'm a good player, with experience, feel, timing, expression and tone. But I'm not at all comfortable improvising over anything complex. Then again, that's not really how I see myself anymore, I feel like a little improv is ok but I'm here to do a job. Doesn't stop me wanting to have the ability to improvise like a demon over anything you put in front of me though I'm a very visual/aural learner and I find theory pretty difficult and I don't really practice, I get far too distracted. I'm not very comfortable with all this but I really ought to be comfortable with myself and my uniqueness, I suppose we all should. Depends on whether you want to be a session type or not. I learn off the CD what I am told to by my bosses and turn up and play like it's supposed to be, with feel, timing, expression and tone. I get a real buzz performing live so that's my payoff. I vaguely remember something Steve Vai said a long time ago, practice, practice, practice and your fingers will become eyes. Something like that, except maybe I should add, they will become ears.
Man..that quote says it all, in all musicians!!
 18.
hi ok so im thinking of taking the plunge, paying the $500 deposit, ordering my bass and then saving like crazy till it arrives! ive decided on a jazz body with either the P/J pickups or maybe the big singles! i just cant decide on a colour!!! i do know that i want a matching headstock......something like this (bit of an odd colour) http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/4507.html or this http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/4888.html or maybe this (wow) http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/feat_4017.html ooh and this is pretty sexy http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/feat_4332.html please bare in mind that im not into fancy body woods and figured tops! its a once in a life time thing and i'd like some opinions because at the moment there's just tooooo much choice! lol cheers
Chris im in the same boat. i would like a sadowsky, but unlike you im not sure if i can stretch to an NYC. I love the Ice Blue or the Black..very understated. Sorry to throw the spanner in the works but these are tasty also!!
 19.
I'm going to try not to sound like a know it all but I think it will help if I qualify my opinion. I have been a pro player for 20 yrs and have taught to degree standard for 10, so I do know a bit. Knowing what you're playing technically can be useful, but is not necessary, and certainly it's not bad practice to feel music. You can get further quicker as a player if you technically learn what you're playing but it's very important to remember that playing music is an emotional and soulful expression every bit as much as it is a technical one. I have said it before and I dare say I'll say it again, the aural tradition of absorbing and regurgitating music is as valid as notes on a stave and scales in a book, and is of course thousands of years older. If it works, keep doing it. Jake
I guess what your saying is, it would be good to realise a BALANCE, of both emotional inprovisation and technical knowledge!? Oscar made sense also!! the experience you gain from the time you put in on the instrument, show in your playing. I would think that the theory is a platform for the emotional mind to work from. Blimey im getting deep. The only trouble is i have so many bass/musical things going on in my head that thay may not come light without theory????
 20.
ok here you go. My function band "Supafly" (that sometimes also features messrs bass-chatters JakesBass and Terryblyth): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JXjqpsBp2A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA5Xu2hbwgA...feature=related here I am again with another local function band...this time on (do I dare...) guitar! Talented Nicolette Street on vocals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYcH84ExP_k it's a bit cheesy but pays the bills
I dont recognise cheesy any more. That darn Earth Wind and Fire....Twas great!!
 21. Hey people. I was playing last night over a Major chord loop, and thought that i dont actually think about scales or modes.( i may be playing them at the time, but i couldnt remember) Its probably an obvious thing to say to most of you guys/girls, but feeling and emotion gets me around the bass, either it be slow soul, or staccato fingerstyle, with out a thought of what scale i may be playing. Does anyone think this is bad practice?? Obviously i would not do this if i had company. but i dont seem to think about reference points and im not sure if im delving too much into, erm.. 'FREE' bass playing. As im not in a band at the mo... I always see other cats doing stuff i admire and think, i wonder if that was off the cuff.. maybe i need to put my head down in the books, and think about what im playing a bit more? Any wise thoughts
 22.
I only have bad quality live vids. But to save any suspense I'm sh*t.
Ahh.. were all good here bro..Isnt that the bass players code??

Maybe will get a camera/and give it a go. Thought it may good to see others play, its a great way to learn off of each other too! Digging that Ped, beautiful tone!!!!!
 24. Hey guys?girls, was wondering if any of you had vids on You Tube, or anywhere else, of yourself playing. I would be really interested to see how good you all are, different styles etc!! Anyone???
 25.
its just a question of experience and technique being at such a level that you are no longer conscious of the player-instrument divide and just treat the instrument as if its part of you. It helps to play the same instrument for a while to get completely comfortable on it, and to relax while playing if you want to get nimble. Rest of the way is just putting the hours in with a band.
Yeah the band thing for sure! but other wise Kiwi do you think dedicated scale practice throughout the fret board is the way to go? By the way i think i may have said this before? are you a New Zealander. Im was born in Hawkes Bay. Hurra for the Kiwis!!!
