What amused me was that in the poll results graph at the top none of the colors (sic) mentioned corresponded to the colour of the bar representing the result. I suppose that's ironic, and would have been missed by TBers on the whole.
This is like looking through Razzle.....but for Jazz basses and not so working class

Got it this morning...Very cool bass and very well made..Easily as good as any USA model ive owned..feels very solid...Also resonates really really well, very much like my old CS Jazz... What i love is the lack of routing under the pickguard!!! also you cant really see in the pics but under pickguard you can see the original colour, which is more green.. the body has faded to a mint green/blue..(why do i love that so much)?? The neck has gone real amber compared to the original colour in the neck pocket.. its in great conditon for a 21+ year old bass Really like the stock tone.. Then i put the Audere in to the bass, and f*** me!!! ....Although this pre doesnt add any colour to the tone, it certainly puts the Super, in Super Jazz.. Really flexible preamp, and i love the Z Modes.. i have found it much more intuitive than the John East Deluxe Jazz unit.. But i think thats maybe a bit more comprehensive it really sounds quality and makes me want to play more.. i think thats what a good pre is all about... im amazed what a good pre like this can do for a Jazz Bass excuse the ramblings -
I read silly threads on TB all the time.. ok i post some pointless music threads, but this takes the cake.. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/pick-my-f...olor-me-770967/ im not knocking TB but sometimes the threads take talking bass to its limits
I'm thinking about modding my workhorse bass (Fender MIM Reggie Hamilton sig.) and have been thinking about a J-Retro and some Nordstrand pickups. Which would be most worthwhile to change first? I won't be able to afford both for quite a while....
Pickups without doubt...
Thanks for your help everyone. As far as I can tell the bass is well set up with to obvious faults. No rattles, plays well and it sustains well enough. The bridge seems solid and well fitted, it is well strung and I am the first to admit that I am no virtuoso but I am a very competent player with many years experience so I doubt if it is technique or player error. The nut is interesting but when you fret a note does that cancel out the nut any way? Has anyone ells had the same problem
Mate.. take it to someone who knows about guitars.. they prob wont charge you for there advise.. its the only way to know for sure.. Does it really sound that dull? even after a string change?.. if you really think so, my gut feeling tells me there is something wrong with maybe the resonance of the instrument.. or the pickups is the bass dull sounding on every string? the nut will not have a factor Ironside, unless its made of balsa wood.. hard points on either side of the string are good enough to give the string enough to swing off and give a clear tone.... IMHO it should be bright no matter what string you put on.. ok maybe not flats, but even then.. and yes fretting a note will cancel out the nut.. apart from taking it to a tech, i think the missing link is maybe your pickups..
Forget the pups. Get the J-Retro first and see how you go. The J-Retro should deliver on all but the shittest pups. Do NOT sell your Jazz if you already love its playability. That is MUCH harder to replicate with a new bass.
im with Silddx.. nothing wrong with Fender's USA pups, with a good preamp.. its not a sh*te foundation to build on.. i fitted my old custom shop jazz with nordstrands and a redeemer circuit,.. took out the Nordstrands and it was way better.. this was maybe because i prefered the single coil sound and the Nords were twin

Skej21,..... my lord that is a question that even the best on BC cant, or cant be bothered to work out the answer to.. sorry to be rude.... what is the bass in question..?
Anybody with OCD wouldn't own a Dingwall anyway. Frets have to be absolutely parallel don't you know.
not just that...from a man who had OCD, you would have to play the same note twice to even out the numbers.. always in groups of two it was for me.. i was a frickin knightmare with odd time.. -
