1.
actually it sounds like it could be a bad connection -- does this procedure for removing the problem work every time? i mean, if you were to do it 5 times in a row, would the results be the same everytime? Or did unplugging the re-plugging the cables just fix it that one time?
Yeah this seems to fix it every time it's happened so far. i've only sat down and played with this set up about 4 times in the last week or so, the amp i have only just got. I might try a little bit more of an investigation into the bad connection idea. try swapping out some of the patch leads i have going between all the rack gear. maybe one of those is causing a problem. My compressor works fine as it's the same one i use for other stuff. I have already tried a few XLR leads to the desk and tried different channels on the desk. thought it could have been a problem with a pre on the desk . What worried me was the way it crackles/ distorts...... hum thinking about it it does sound like a 'connection' kind of crackle/distortion.... *scratches chin* After tea i'll try turning everything on and see if it starts up with this problem again and then experiment a bit and get back to you. thank you for the response (Y)
 2.
What do you mean? Does it buzz when you guitar is plugged n and it's just on? Or does the DI output buzz and generate noise. I think you mean, the second one. In that case there is usually a ground lift button on the back close to DI Section. Otherwise it could be a lot of reasons. Like guitar sheilding, poor cables even electric outlets. Did you try google?
hum... it is a weird one. Right i'll try and type out a bit more info now i'm home. (wish me luck! not to good at explaining my self) the D.I. has no ground lift function. my bass into my floor deck into the front of the amp. that's as it should be. then i have the output from my effects loop on the back of the amp going to my rack tuner, out from there to a compressor, out from there back into the input of the effects loop. i have the D.I. (XLR) going to my desk and thats where i have my headphones plugged in. When i have everything switched on, when i first sit down to play, the bass signal is very week. It sounds all toppy with no definition. If you turn the input to the preamp up more than an 8th it distorts but not a normal preamp overdriven type distortion but more a crackly not good sounding distortion. Now if i disconnect the effects loop stuff and the D.I then plug the D.I. back in seems to fix it. as in the signal goes back to normal. Sounding all ampeg like and well just lovely. So i plug the effects loop stuff back in and everything works as normal. odd huh! Now i say about the ground lift, Maybe a mod i can do if necessary, because it kinda sounds like the signal is being pulled down by something. The floor deck has a 'wall wort' 9V adaptor, the compressor has a kettle lead, the rack tuner and the amp also have kettle leads. they are all on the same power strip and the desk is on a different one. Is that amy help?
 3. Let me start by saying sorry if there already is a random small questions thread but i couldn't see one. I thought this might be handy for little questions that don't ready need their own thread for. Good idea? Anyhoo my wee question is : Im having a strange, pos grounding problem, with my ampeg B2RE. Is there a ground lift option on it? Inside maybe? Or dose its design not need one? I can go into more detail of why I'm asking this but I'm in a coffiee shop descussing amps with a young chap at the moment and typing on a phone is tedious.
 4. Yeah experimentation is the best way stuff things through other things and see what happends. What you do at the mo is cool, gives you a fx loop free for more stuff!
 5. Wow, Awesome! right place right phone call. Very pretty bass. So glad it's not just me who thinks they set action up like you have bass playing gorilla hands.
 6. Hey ho everyone, I wanted to leave another feedback post for the awesomeness that is Stag. I recently bought a very well looked after, in spotless condition Ampeg B2RE from this very nice Basschat member Stag. I've never done this kind of sale before and it couldn't have been better. Stag is very helpful, quick to respond to your questions and some good friendly banter. He helped me sort everything out and it was as painless as it could have been. The Festive rap certainly helped too. The amp arrived when it should, looked even better than in the pictures and sounds just as awesome as you think it would. Super Bassist thank you, Shawn
 7. Tee hee I like this thread. My bass we call 'The jazz'
 8. Hi guys, I'm looking to sell my lefty Cort. I'm really struggling for cash at the mo and i guess I'm a four string guy too plus i just don't play this awesome bass enough to have it sat in my lounge. I thought i'd post a couple of pictures up here to see what people think, how much you think it might be worth and weather it would go. I have been thinking of £425 ono Any help would be awesome thank you. (Y) P.S. (I'm also thinking of selling my Trace Elliot RAH1000 and matching BFC 1000W cab. but i won't post that in the lefty thread )
 9. Evening guys, Have a bit of a chin scratcher and i could do with some other idea and points of view. I am a gigging bassist and jam a lot. My rig goes everywhere with me and i love it. I currently run a Trace Elliot RAH1000 with the matching BFC 1000W cab. It's awesome it really is but it's old, flakey and not as reliable as i'd like. Because of it's complexity it has been giving me some trouble on occasion with the bass end. It still works but is unreliable tonally. Now i don't want to go all techy as this isn't why i've posted this thread but i'd like to see what you would do in my situation. The Trace is so one of my dream amps and i feel so lucky to have one thing that i never thought i'd ever own. it's stereo throw is really wide and the cool delays pinging around the stage is awesome. I can run my old mono synth, 'The Jenny', though it as well as my bass And i have vocal effects running in there too! It's a crazy amp with so much on it. It's also really really loud! i mean super loud. i've never had trouble hearing it anywhere. Outside it sounds lovely and even in small venues at low level it still rumbles low and had clear highs. But.... I had it serviced, in essex, a year or so ago and found out a little of the history of the AH1000 and it didn't fill me with confidence about how long my baby would last. :S The design of the RAH was complicated and had some 'gremlins' that haunted it's existence. [I think maybe it was released before it should have been and maybe before some of the 'technical issues/bugs' were worked out.] For those reasons my RAH seems to drop the bass end out, as if the bass amp section drops out leaving the two 250W amps running. I think that over in essex they have bit's to make about 4 or 5 of the RAH1000's but none of them seem to work. I don't know of anyone else with a working RAH1000 and if they have any issues with it. My thoughts are 'I think it's time for me to update my rig.' [That means selling one of my basses, [See the lefty bass thread] and my beloved RAH1000 and cab. ] I've been looking around at rig's like the trace and i'm really liking the look of the Markbass TA501 I have a 4ohm trace elliot 8x10" cab that i could use with the new head, as the BFC would ether have to be re-wired or sold with the RAH1000, or i could sell the 8x10 as well and get one or two new cabs???. Any thoughts or ideas about what i could do.

 11. If you can find an old AH1000 get one! i have one with a the BFC and it is so awesome it really is! I run my bass and effects stereo and my key's through it too. It's an amazing beast.
 12.
Yes, very probably the following:

Truss rod -- it'd probably need tightening to counteract the extra tension in the higher-gauge strings, otherwise you'll have a Jamerson-style bow to the neck
Bridge saddles -- will probably have to move back (away from the nut) a touch to keep good intonation, and may have to go up or down depending on how you like your action
Nut -- if you're unlucky, you might have to file the nut slots to fit the new string widths. You might get away without it (especially on the thinner strings) if the nut's been cut a little slack

Cheers dude. I thought it might involve a little bit of tweakedge! I like to be shore of everything cus i don't want to bugger up my bass. I might leave it for the moment then because i have a right handed neck on my jazz, the one in my avatar pic, and the nut isn't that great so fiddling with it isn't the best idea. once i get a new neck i might think about setting it up with a thicker gauge then. i'm looking at setting it up with some new pickups and generally giving it a service and clean. It get's quite a bashing so it's time for a bit of tlc.....
 13. Hi, at the moment i'm running D'Addario EXL 165 string's and i really like them but i have been thinking of going up a gauge. Would I need to adjust anything on my bass? The bass i want to change the gauge string's on is a lefty fender jazz. Sorry if this seem's like a silly question but i just want to be shore about everything before i go ahead and i know that you guy's know far more about basses than me.
 14. I was just checking out a Marco Minnemann track on youtube and noticed a strainge set up in a ric looking bass. Does anyone know if what it is? Just out of interest really. Also it's a kicking track. Marco Minnemann
 15. Oh That is good to hear. It does sound if a bit weird and did worry me for a bit.
 16.
The same happened to me back in the mid 90s. I was so board with playing rock and pop. Nothing I could find to play on the instrument. I had seven years away from the bass but thanks to a whole series of coincidences in 2001 the inspiration came back in the form of jazz. Never looked back since. Thank God I didn't sell my gear.
Tihs! I'm slightly scared that i may be heading for a long break.................

I'd never come across Mr Manring till i Posted the link and now after reading back through this thread i know so much more. Thank you. Over the last few week's i'd lost music. I'd gone mad i think, i really thought i was done musically. I couldn't relax into my playing and i just stopped. I'd go out for a jam, get there set up and not be able to play. I didn't know what to do, confused, confidence gone, spent. Has anyone else ever had this? ............ But I think the reserve is refilling. IMO no instrument or musician should be be confined in any way and i love to see how we all have interesting and exciting idea's for music and in so many different ways.

 20. There's something i got told a while ago about it not being all that good for speakers to travel on their back or front. i.e. Gravity pulling the cones in one direction, sudden jolts in the car from the road and causing damage over time. It's always best to travel with the cab on it's side. Well any speaker on it's side. Has anyone else herd anything like this? One thing comes to mind is well speaker's in the back of the car are facing up. Hum......... Oh it is early so i may be missing the point of the rails and it's just for getting it in and out of the car/van ect. ^_^ I stick an old feather cusion over the back of the car and tilt my cab in and then slide in up behind the two front seats. Hay presto! it's like having a big square guy sat across the back seats.......... ...................I'll get my coat.........
 21.
For a brief moment there I thought I was being blamed for the lack of a lefty version
LMAO Sorry dude.
 22. Grumble grumble, it sound's really nice and look's really different, and isn't available left handed. God dam it!
