1.
I don't have a flippin clue what model my earplugs are, but they're a something 'pro'. I got em for £20 and I agree with you - they just make things sound wierd, and then I just end up throwing them aside. Its quite annoying!
lol
I always find the bass sounds louder with good earplugs in...but that's because you ain't listening to that large ammount of static distorted guitars have. If you feel your too loud, just turn down. I also get into the "Damn I'm too loud" whilst playing and then try to play softly, only to mess up because it's not normal....so just go up to the amp and turn down...if they tell you to turn up again... then do just that! Might have to look into these though...expensive but...you can't buy more ears!
+1 for more ears. I'm shore the more i play witht them the better things are going to get. I'm going through one of those 'music is tihs, i'm never playing again, i'm selling the lot, kcuf it!' faze's and i can't bare to look at a bass hope i can get some inspiration soon.....
 2. Thank you all for they replys. I'm finding alot of us find the same issues with the ER20's, they're good, for 10 quid anyhoo, but there are some thing's that arn't quite right. I think that i may have to put some money aside and invest in some moulded plugs. My ears are very important and i want to gig for as long as i can and produce music for many more years to come so it's going to the music stuff list.
 3. Ha HA! I'm back! Been away sorting the new house and stuff but i'm back online and typing. Well i had my first gig this year on wednesday night with no smoking and ear plugs. It went really well! I got down to the pub and the jamming had started. There were a few guy's up there playing and quite a few people around out side smoking and looking thro the window's. I like these little mid week seshes cus all i need bring is my bass and a lead so it makes for a hassle free night. So what i decided to do was stick my ear plugs in about half hour before we were going on and it really worked. We got up there and plugged in, tuned up and started bashing through some tunes and it sounded great. I could hear better than normal and everything was at a really nice level. I couldn't believe the amount of people that came in and stayed to see us. Everyone was cheering and the night felt really great. I'm feeling a bit better about stuffing the plugs in now and although some lower semi's are still a bit hard to tell sometimes i'm battling on and doing ok. Oh yeah and you can hear people when they talk to you too. Even over the band that might be playing. Tis great! I'm still interested in those more pricey plug's but maybe when i've got a bit more brass.
 4. Hum sound's like once i've got the cash i'll be putting an order in. P.S. Never rent a house through an agency!
 5.
The whole point of this is so you can play it on your guitar/bass, its just a fun gadget and not intended to be a serious piece of gear. Who cares if you can do the same job but a ton better on a synth, its not as fun and its not as cool.
+1
The octave up (e.g. a MicroPOG) would help with the tracking if you insist on playing down the bass end of the neck, but you wouldn't need the octave down as any decent synth would be able to adjust the octave range anyway. This way you could play up high on the neck without an octave pedal, or even use a guitar, but pump out pure sub bass from the synth module.
One thing i did think of is that these little boxes don't like harmonic rich sound so neck pup only? That in mind the octave up thing might cause some interesting harmonic results. Oh i can't get one yet cus i'm in the middle of moving house at the mo. Have to wait to see how Owen get's on.
 6.
or just buy a synth...
I have and play synth's...... can't play them both at the same time though
 7. HA! Cheered me up before work thank you
 8.
This may sound a bit mental but could you use an octave up pedal running into that and then an octave down pedal after it. Does that make any sense?
you know that sound's like a dam good idea to try. It could come out sounding really funky.
 9.
I have taken a hit for the team and will report back when it arrives. I fully expect it to be useless beneath the 12th fret, but I'm sure I will have fun as long as I can get the transpose button sorted on my sound module.
Cool can't wait to hear back. I was speaking to a guy at work about one and he's getting one soon too so i may get to have a play. I still think that it has potential. I do play synth's too you know but i can't play both at the same time. This little device could help me play both at an affordable price. i think for slow melodic playing and for ambient stuff the latency would not be a problem and even if the latency of it is a bit off it could sound cool with the synth line just behind your bass or guitar sound! Even with the possible flaws it still win's for me. It's definitely a step in the right direction. I always had a thought while tuning that if the tuner could work out that was i just plucked was an A why could it not send that information out? This seam's to be an idea for that?
 10.
(His voice sounds like its on autotune, its very disconcerting)
Tis one thing that did freak me out a little
Interesting! The only downside I can see is that according to the specs it's limited to the standard guitar range of notes, so won't work with bass or any sort of alternate tuning. Nifty product none the less...
Oh poo, i got a bit excited when i saw it. i wonder if there could be something like this for a bass? I'd like to have a play with one tho.
 11. Hello dude, That was an interesting read Love to see a pic of the 6 string. Glad to hear your wanting a trace. Many hug's.
 12. This little thing look's a great idea. It's the Sonuus G2M youtube link P.S. sorry if this is old new's, i've just discovered it.
 13. He he...... ok i may be a bit wasted right now but i've made my mind up. i'm going in there next week and give it a play, if they let me, and see if i may be ale to sneak it out under my jumper....... *look's left and right*.........I'm going to bed........dam ebay........grumble grumble............and that lefty ric...............grumble........credit crunch my ass........grumble.............

 15.
.... i like it....
+1 and i really like the Bongo........
 16.
Then again I'm odd.
lmao.....then that make two of us.
 17.
a bongo is certainly on my wish list!
It's working it's way onto mine too.
 18.
Hi Bobo, it does seem weird that when my wife was actively encouraging me to buy the bass, there and then, until you realise that it was a 4 string Stingray, black, rosewood board....for £1395!!!! I told her that I could pick up a really good condition used one for half that price. I think they are good basses but too dear when purchased from new. A forum meber mxm has a gorgeous 5 string fretless ray for sale for £750, I was really tempted but it's an unlined board and I thought that £750 is a lot to pay to dip my toe into the fretless world, I may have bought it if it had been lined though! As Josh has said, the Stingrays are very nice but so are the Sterlings, now I would be very interested in trying a Bongo, they look so good.
Hello dude, how often do used lefty's come up? Yeah 750 would be scary for a first toe dip. I'll look into Sterlings. Absolute Music is right next to where i work and i know they have a lefty ray at the mo, i'll pop in there in the week and try him out, not that i could get it cus i think they've put it up for 1300 or something silly. Think it's on ebay???? Anyhoo i don't have that kind of cash. See i really like 5 string's, and have a couple, but i never quite feel entirely comfortable and end up go back to the 4's. So if i got one it would be a 4 stringer......
 19.
Good point.. no tube either. It's the front end of the better combos before the tube/ss SMX series came out. Good luck with the Ebay one!
cheer's dude, no worries.
Hi, I ran exactly that model of pre-amp for over 10 years and do have to say that it was fantastic - never missed a beat once and used to deliver a really nice tone too. There are some good options on the pre-amp if you like bi-amping etc and also the tube or solid state blend which always offered a nice contrast in sounds. I sold mine on e-bay a couple of years ago to a guy in Australia and I think he paid about £250 for it in the end. I am sure that when I bought mine from the Bass Centre it was nearly a grand! If you can get it under £150 it has to be worth it and for that money there is no way that you would be disappointed it was a great amp in it's day! Cheers Mark
Thank's man. It does sound like a great bit of kit. My RAH1000 has the GP12 built in but this smx version does have a few more tonal options available. I'm thinking that it would be cool for recording in a studio when i don't the amp section of the RAH1000 i could just use the pre. I'm starting to get an idea of what i should bid too. I have to confess i am a bit of a TE fanatic.
 20.
Get a bog standard 2 band eq stingray in black with a maple neck if they do 'em.... Had a pre-ernie but in natural and a rosewood neck. Still don't know why i got rid of it!!!
i do like this one tho Bongo 4
 21.
ah that's a shame, if you were closer you could have come and have a go! The problem is (as you may have guessed) that few shops (at least near me) stock rays, let alone left handed ones! I just had to bite the bullet and buy it. I wasn't disappointed, and I hope you won't be if you do the same I'd still try to find a shop with at least a righty MM and have a go upside down!
Oh poo. Your right man i'll try a righty some place and see. i like the sound of them but didn't really know what to go for. I'll see if i can find somewhere local with one this weekend..... there's a few guitar places around...
 22.
Bongos are always nice too! I had a stirling and a stingray and I always prefered the ray, I found the neck too narrow on the Stirling but thats personal choice A lefty would go for a ray for the same reason a righty would, great slap tone and punchy finger/pick style. Where are you based incidentally?
sound's like it's going to be something i'm going to have to have a play on. i'm down in bournemouth, dorset.
 23.
Not helping, am I?
......no......
To be honest.... go for a classic 'Ray or Sterling. I don't think Ernie Ball do any other basses in lefty mode. Might be wrong though.
hum...... *scratches chin some more......*
I'm a lefty and I tried a Stingray in a music shop, while with the missus. She said that I should buy it there and then, she loved the sound. I resisted, how warped is that.
Weird....
 24.
I have the 250W head version.. brilliant to this day from new! As to value, if it doesn't go much higher it has to be worth a punt surely? If not I still have, somewhere, the previous model GP12 preamp i.e. no compressor. This has been on loan to friends for a while but it should be getting used - probably available.
Hum.... yeah that sound's cool. If this one stays low I might stick a bid on it tomorrow. It had to bloody finish when i'm out jamming. Is the GP12 basically the same bar the comp? i.e. solid state, tube and 12 band?
