2.
This is great Pete! Really, really impressed! [PLUG]See you at the Jazz Café in Camden on Sunday August 22nd.[/PLUG]
Shameless plugs. Shameless.
  3.
Love this tune. I'm only a minute or so through and can already say your tone and feel = wow. Band's performance is ace too - done the song justice. It's a shame you can't have 5 Michael McDonalds supplying eerie backing vocals.
I think some of us may have had 5 McDonalds.
  4. It's bad drummers that bother me.
  5.
I agree that your vids were pretty poor but tbh £600 is not a lot for a function band (you get what you pay for...) we had a decent fee and accommodation (more than double) for that gig as it was in the west country me and the horn being London(ish) piano, drums, vox from Manchester. I understand your point about my vid being fine but my question was would you be happy doing it? I enjoy it because the guys are really good so the genre matters less to me. What I'm getting at in my question is that being pro means that if you struggle to get on in a gig like that then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I just feel blessed to have a bass in my hands at work so will do gigs like that very happily. I'm hinting towards what it is that drives you to satisfaction in music.
Good post again, Jake. Spot on.
  6.
Oi you lot - stop it. Sulks and slopes off to the Roles-Royce for a kip on the back seat whilst the chauffeur takes me to Betty's for profiteroles, the fishmongers for role-mop herring, and the doctors to look at me ear-rolls.
7. He's a goodun.
  8. Might just be a Tokai neck on a different body. Frankentokai, maybe?

But I think you've barred my posts. Oh well...
  10. Try looking at the thickness. Might give you a clue.
  11.
It was a rock band that had its faults but it was ok and sounded like a rock band. It was rehearsed and it was tight (I was 17, the rest of the band were 30+). We did a Radio One session three months later so it couldn't have been that bad. Seriously, though. Check this out and tell me I am wrong. The piano solo at 1.00 is a doozy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnrhE5ARc_w...feature=related This is even better... 12.
really nice!
13. Yes sir, you are indeed correct.
  14.
It was nice of you to come and see us Bilbo - introduce yourself next time. I think you are totally right to do this if it feels right for you. There are certain stage, TV and movie actors who are very selective about the rolls they take on, and it usually does them immense good from the credibility point of view. Then there are others who will be seen in anything. No matter how bad. It eventually damages them.
They obviously need to take it up with catering.
  15. Should have ended up on a live DVD. Long story.
  16.
I'm here! Tis true that 'theatres' is where the money is.... We've never taken that step as the Agents tend to want to book small tours' of a fortnight or so.... and with families/responsibilities and decent full-time jobs this just wouldn't work for us...
Same with us. We get our own gigs.
  17. Take their advice.
  18.
Having had boutique basses for the last twenty years (amongst other high end string instruments), I'd be inclined to say that an expensive instrument flatters the player and almost makes them want to raise the bar and play better.
Totally agree.
  19.
Nice one. I particularly like the opening notes Seriously though,it's really cool.
Warts and all...
  20. I've had all sorts of basses over the years. My first 'boutique' bass was an Alembic 20th Anniversary, which I bought in 1989. I sold that and had a Tobias Classic 5, which I used for about 15 years solid. During that time I went through phases of wondering if I'd overdone it and that a cheaper bass would be just as good. They weren't, and I wasted good money in trying to convince myself. You will appreciate the top notch sound, build and quality, and your playing will improve as a result. A friend has recently bought a Roscoe and discovered exactly that.
  21.
Depends on your guitarist, if they don't have a particularly big or dirty sound a bit extra on the riff can actually rescue an otherwise 'thin' sounding version, played it loads of times in jams with various people and once or twice I've noticed a look of panic come over thme when I leave them to play it solo. It's just a question of not over egging it. I usually double up with an A an octave up so it's not too low a register, fits fine. Can also help a novice drummer keep the rhythm too.
Just in on this. Totally agree. This is probably the most badly-ever played song by guitar players.

    Tribfest
Cheers Pete,,,, thats appreciated....
See the tribute thread running alongside.
  24. Tribute bands can make big money, but only if they get on a theatre circuit. A mate of mine plays in a Bon Jovi tribute, and they've recently signed up with an agent who has booked a tour. Talon and Rumours of Fleetwood Mac tend to gig like this, instead of the random gigs that we do. Certain people frown on tribute bands, but it's generally a way to keep gigging, earn decent money, and (sometimes) play music you really like.
  25. A bump for me old mate Dodger.
