1.
Without checking properly, I seem to remember that Jon Camp's Rick was heavily customised with different pups and other mods.
It may have been at some point but the clips posted here (apart from the Northern Lights clip) are standard Rick tone. The Sight and Sound concert is very clear, it certainly looks like a stock Rick too.
 2.
As I mentioned in my earlier post I'd assumed it was too but then why go to the trouble of always apparently playing it live on a different instrument? there are 2 or 3 youtube clips which I think are from around the time the original was recorded and they are all on a twin neck. Maybe they always played the song live immediately after a song that needed the twin neck and he didn't want to swap basses?
Perhaps he thought the double-neck looked pretty for TV appearances? It's not unheard of for someone to play different basses for recording and live use. His double-neck had twin P pickups if I recall correctly, they would sound very different. If Northern Lights isn't a Rick, I would be very, very surprised.
 3.
Has the quality declined then? That's a shame. I haven't bought a Kinder Egg for years.
You used to get little kits inside the eggs. Often ones that did things when you pulled a lever. Nowadays you tend to get a 'collectable' ornament that does nothing but stand on a shelf. Of course, I haven't bought a Kinder egg for many years but I have a Niece and Nephew who are quite taken with them. They probably cost about £1.50 now.
 4.
Horrible headstock & looks cheap IMO Looks like something you'd get out of a Kinder Egg.
Not these rubbish Kinder eggs you get these days...
 5.
Ric - 50s design, thin pickups, rubbish tone with fingers (OKish with a pic) - Chris Squires - Precision for recording. Bruce Foxton - Precision because Rics impossible to keep in tune - look great/sound crap. Great look, great style - but if you want to play bass then stick with a P/'Ray!!! Every bass player dreams of a Ric - and every bass player goes back to a P after playing one!! Nuf said.
I will refrain from feeding the troll.
 6. I love the look of these, never seen or heard one though. Excellent design.
 7. I always liked the video with Snow White in it, but that wasn't for the music.
 8. I would guess Marshalls - at least for 'Burn'. Glenn said he played a Rickenbacker on that album to try to preserve Glover's DP sound - maybe he stuck with the same amps as well. Either way it was a bit of a futile exercise as his tone on 'Burn' isn't a patch on Glover's.
 9. I think the smallest venue I ever played in has to be the Severn Stars in Kidderminster. It's a small place anyway and they cram the bands into a tiny bay window area at the back. The first time we played their, one of the other bands on the tour was a slightly avant-garde instrumental thrash metal band - at one point in a particular song they would all stop playing and freeze for a bit before carrying on. At this particular venue, the drummer (by now slightly inebriated) saw this break as an opportunity to hurl himself out of the window. Cue several slightly worried looks and much nervous laughter. A minute later he ran in through the main entrance, fought through the crowd and straight back to his kit. -extract from 'Classic Tour Stories from Unknown Bands'. In general, being 6ft 3, I find I need to exercise caution with most venues, the headstock of my bass will show you why.
 10.
I was going to post a clip of Northern Lights quite early in this thread but then when I looked around for examples it seemed they were all on a twin neck that doesn't look like a ric at all (John Birch or similar maybe?). I'd assumed it was a ric from the studio sound but presumably it wasn't. Great bassline all the same.
The studio version is definitely Rick. My 4003 with the tone cap engaged and everything full on pretty much nails that tone, it's joyous.
 11.
that looks like the bbc2/radio1 sight&sound in concert gig ?
It is indeed! I have a copy of the full thing, somewhere.
 12. This thread appears to be turning into a Jon Camp-fest. And why not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw7vGkxOzDs
 13.
is this a rick? 1:22 my ears are saying yes
Certainly sounds like one! Bonkers version of the song - who is it by?
 14.
Call that a "clank"? THIS is a clank!
I'll give you that one! Taken to ridiculous extremes though, Rick-haters will find plenty to chew on in this clip. It sounds to me like he's running in stereo but we're not hearing the neck pickup for some reason.
 15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGYnEtqU8u8&feature=related Clank
 16. A few more for the pot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UbkDzp5LuY Rickenbacker as motorcycle engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3KOtCOBsxk Bass solo at 3:38 - a definitive Rick moment!
 17.
If that is the Peter Giles that I know,I shall remind him of this! Peter plays bass in Aluna, and is an entertaining guy. He now uses(IIRC)a 60's Jazz with a Villex tone contrl straight into the PA.
Wow, if it is him get him on here! Funny if it turned out it wasn't a Rick after all...
 18. When I read the thread title, the little voice in my head sounded like Manuel from Fawlty Towers.
 19. I didn't mean to start a discussion, but what the hell! My personal favourtie Rick tones are probably those of Roger Glover, Jon Camp, and Geddy Lee circa Signals/ESL. And Mr Squire, of course The song I posted just struck me as a wonderful example of the instrument - those flute-like quality of the high notes and the slightly snarly, snappy low notes. It was just a little different to the norm and also an excuse to post a great song!
 20. I just bought Mick's Zon Sonus - stunning bass, exactly as described, excellently packed. Regular detailed communication throughout. The only downside to the deal is that I now have to sell something to justify this purchase. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with Mick again, he's a credit to our community.
 21.
The newly-formed I joined recently is having a lively internal debate about the band's name. We play soft-rock/pop/indie covers. Some of the band favour "quirky"/fun names like Creative Chair Bending or The Spotted Frogs or Spiny Norman or Bats in Bikinis or Blame it on Leslie. Other people (I'm one of them) would choose a band name that gives promoters and audiences some sort of idea of the music we play. So - what do we think, folks?
I would pay to see any band called 'Blame It On Leslie'. I think if you are in a band playing such covers, your advertising would probably mention it so I think you would get away with an amusing name. Once you've got a bit of a reputation it won't be a problem. Of course, everything within reason - if you are playing soft rock covers a name like 'Sarcophagus of Entrails' is probably pushing it a bit.
 22. A pretty rare egg, featuring a wonderful daydream of a bassline, perfectly suiting the song's summery meander. The bass player is Peter Giles, briefly of King Crimson, and on a glorious old Rickenbacker - either an early 4001 or more likely a 1999. Enjoy! 23. You are welcome to try mine, although it needs a setup and the strings are dead so it probably wouldn't give you much idea of what they are capable of
 24. DeArmond Starfire bass - found in a junk/pawn shop in York in pristine condition. Sold to help fund a Spector Rebop which I didn't like at all sadly. Status Shark - passive with one shiny chrome pickup in the Aria SB/Rickenbacker position. Incredible clank and growl. Really miss this one, it was perfect for playing along to Fragile!
