  1. I know we don't fit the genre but on the topic of 'meaningless' lyrics let me present to you verse 1 and 2 of the SL&G song Close to the Sea - see if you can work out what inspired the lyric: Pinned to a day Striped like a cage Suits you in grey Made to withstand Too many plans Measured in sand
  2. YOB bass right there.....rarely seen a 65 for sale - out of my price range (and I don't like chunky C necks) It looks almost as battered as me too - perhaps we've lived similar lives? GLWTS
  3. If I worked in the benefits office I’d do too many drugs too sounds like an English Zappa crossed with 70s children’s TV themes to me
  4. Thought I’d add another one - this song always leaves me feeling a little exposed and that it will all fall apart any second - I love playing it though. This rendition in a converted barn on an old dairy farm in the plains of Emilia Romagna Italy earlier this year....I give you 3 Lines
  5. It may be a worthy skill but I'm convinced it would be of little value in my band. We communicate ideas by playing them to each other, yes we'll tell each other what key something might be in or as is more likely they'll ask me as they won't know (even their own ideas)......the conventions of music theory are not at the forefront of our minds, the overall aural effect is.
  6. We have a zero intoxication before the show rule
  7. Arrogant mostly
  8. The total opposite of what it is to play in my band (or most [edit:originals] bands IME) - nothing is ever written down - everything is performed from memory (with improvisation if someone goes off track)....totally different ball game.
  9. AT 39€ a pop I think I'll give that little experiment a miss
  10. I apologise if this has been posted elsewhere but I know many of you lust after Wal mk1 It seems Bass Direct has one with both fretted and fretless necks for sale at the moment. You'll need to sell the car or extend the mortgage though.... http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Wal_MKI_Fretless_1988.html?fbclid=IwAR0rJMzDZ8qn4yDHABKFYFCXKdK6lQXl1Ux5NQ3stLH-FGAv8L5vhWrdj3w
  11. Ah but we must try to think what Mr Tracy would do.......
  12. All the bass on our last album was recorded in one of 2 ways depending on whether I was tracking at my place or Tony's: 1) My Bass>Yamaha 82 mixer> RME HDSP9632 > PC running Sonar Platinum 2) My Bass>UA Apollo > MacbookPro running Logic We recorded everything at 96k/32bit and moved wav stems or aiff stems between software no problem. It seemed to work out fine. We mic'd nothing but did model some mic sims in the mix. - That said I am receiving PRESSURE to migrate my home studio to MacbookPro/Logic/UA....but budget constraints'n'all that.......
  13. I don't have one, hence the talk of batteries. I do however have a 35 year old JV-62 P - but it never gets played these days
  14. I ALWAYS have the DI on post and ALWAYS press the Mute button on my amp at the end of soundcheck and have not yet forgotten to un-Mute it before the start of the set - it's the last thing I press before playing and the first thing I press before going off stage - that way any plugging and unplugging of cables won't get pops and bangs won't get to the speakers. I also currently drape the bass end of the cable over the stand....i was just concerned about if I could get away with not unplugging the bass end as it would give me one less thing to remember when I get out on stage.
  15. On this subject, does anyone know how long a 9V battery lasts when left in a plugged in EBMM 3band bass? I ask because often we leave our instruments on stage between the sound check and the show. The soundcheck might be at 3pm and the show not start til 11pm or later. A couple of times I've almost forgotten to unplug the bass at the end of the soundcheck and i'm wondering if I ever forget, whether I will be facing disaster?
  16. WRONG THREAD
  17. I can second Mr East's customer service. After the charger for my P-retro was stolen in a burglary - it was in a gig bag with my Shuttle - he replaced it IIRC FOC!! Top service
  18. They'd go invisible if left on the coffee table. Horrible - just horrible
  19. Aye - when I was googling pics of Flabba for the post a few up there ^^^ it sent me on a 80s nostalgia trip........I worked in a record shop for a few months in 1984 and Barrington Levy lived on the turntable.
  20. this thread makes me wish I could still handle a doobie without getting paranoid but has reminded me of some choonz from the past
  21. skibbadiddlywaddaliywhoah!
  22. Errol Holt plays a I don't know what!!! What is that??? Errol Holt has got to be the yardstick against whom all reggae bassmen should be measured. although I did find this pic of him with a Hofner !!!! (or a clone)
  23. If there's a bass you lust after just buy it whatever the cost be it £2k or more , even. Whatever you buy now, if it's not the one you desire, you'll still hanker after the expensive one. Bite the bullet and just get it.
