*NOW SOLD* Well….this I’m taking a heavy knock as I bought this last year but not used…so in mint condition with original box (no power supply as none came with original purchase). I was impressed when I tried as it tracked beautifully but I now have two multi-effect units that fulfill my needs. *Description here: The SY-1 transforms any guitar or bass into a versatile synthesizer that’s fun, inspiring, and ready to play. Backed by advanced tech first developed for the SY-300, this super-cool pedal delivers a huge selection of analog-style synth sounds while occupying minimal space on your board. What’s more, all the sounds are polyphonic, allowing you to play both single notes and chords.

3 pole, 4 way rotary switch wiring for MM pickup
Bass Wielder replied to Bass Wielder's topic in Repairs and Technical
Wow! 😵💫 Jack sockets are in parallel. Fine! I triple checked all joints. Fine! Removed ground loop. Fine! Checked that the pickup coils work. Fine! Still three positions: but they are (from furthest anti-clockwise): NC(single)/dual/dual. * Could it be that I need to shift the wiring around? ie: Start pin 1 at a different point. On looking internally at the switch, the wipers combine pins correct? So maybe it stars at a different point?? 🤯🤯 -

Ok great! Clockwise in playing position (looking from outside). Furthest anti-clockwise is loudest (but seems to be BC)?), then next two seem to be both coils). Confused.com😵💫 Ground: Ok I’ll check that…(could that stop extra position?) Jack: yes there is an extra Jack socket (one on plate and one on side) -

So….did as you said but now only getting three positions. Not getting furthest clockwise….arrrgggggggg🤯 Seems like I’m getting neck and two dual…. NC = neck coil BC = bridge coil -

Thanks for the response👍🏾🤞🏾 So to explain (better) I hope: Volume is to the left (neckward), jack socket is to the right. pick-up front/neckward coil (pos/neg): red/blue pickup rear/bridgeward coil: (pos/neg): red/black Out to vol: orange Switch connectors: black Ground: green -

So from left to right: Vol, tone, switch, Jack. That is in playing position (so rotary clockwise from on top (anti viewed from below)1-4) -

Right! Hope I’m not being thick!!! Wired it as suggested but only getting two positions (that is: sound)?? Clockwise rotation: Positions 2 and 3. (1&4 silent). Me “Duh?? 😵💫” edit: sounds like parallel to series. -

Gotcha! For me, series for finger style and parallel for slap (of course adjusting between the volume levels). Singles: front for slap/fingerstyle and rear for Jaco type (perhaps fretless l) sound. -

Yep. I hear you. On close monitoring I can hear the difference between the single options …not sure an audience would/could appreciate… I must say though that it’s very useful when using two dual coils. The single/single combinations (neck vs bridge singles) have different timbres especially for slap bass! Then in combination with series/parallel…..kid in a candy shop!!!!! -
Hi, maybe this has been covered but I could not find so thus my new post. I had a couple go bad on me so I wanted to replace. They looked different physically so I guess it’s a new wiring process. I’m trying to achieve 4 positions from a Music Man style pickup (in whatever order is best): single/single/series/parallel. The switch to be used is in the photo. Anyone with success on this?

Bass ‘choking’ in the upper register
Bass Wielder replied to Bass Wielder's topic in Repairs and Technical
Finally got a chance to update! So….i got some longer grub screws and with a combination of healthy suggestions from the helpful BC guys (you all), and the longer screws, I have a happy bass pal and a great playing bass! It does seem that the original barrel saddles sit a bit higher than the Hipshot saddles but the issue was also with the neck. I left the shim out, tightened the truss rod, then by feel/measurements checked the standard things like: nut height, relief, intonation, string spacing. Seems to be hold as the owner was gigging with much satisfaction. Cheers guys Topic closed!! (For now) -

*NOW SOLD* This was built using Warmoth parts. Not by myself but I will give as much info as I know/can. The ‘branding’ is lacquered in but easy enough to remove and replace with your own. Set up nicely, sounds great, balances well and definitely would be quite expensive to do now using Warmoth (or any decent quality as parts/shipping costly). So here’s a chance to have a bargain and a great instrument in one go!!… It’s a lot of bass for the money. I do however understand it’s a punt but it only needs to be ‘discovered’. (and a bit of a one of a kind) I’ll try to answer your good questions. Hopefully I can add clear and helpful photos (or pm me for private emails) *Neck: 35” neck 5 piece bolt on (6 bolts) maple/ Purpleheart with 24 large frets and black Gotoh tuners in a 3/2 position, bone nut, single truss rod (headstock accessible) and Ebony fingerboard. There are also side markers in ‘between frets’ position. *Body: Solid maple with stringers that match the neck. (Stringers look like Purpleheart) to me, but correct me if I’m wrong). Deep neck pocket holds the neck securely (6 bolts) with no movement at all!! So at the moment the spacing is set at 75mm total (string centre to string centre). Average string spacing thus between 18-19mm. Can be reduced by at least 5 mm or increased by a bit less (due to max width of the neck of 78mm at the highest point). *Electronics: Passive with Volume/Tone (switchable)/4 way rotary switch (single/single/series/parallel) with side mounted Jack socket (even this has Purpleheart). The controls are recessed into the body and there is no back cavity (don’t ask as I don’t know how he did it). *Single MM style pickup with dual coils (switchable). *Marleaux branded ETS (German) bridge with quick release slots and lockable/adjustable saddles. (For string spacing/height/intonation). *Sound wise I’d say between a G&L and Musicman (with the described variations). *Great balance between strings and the B is very good (35” is my standard). *The overall condition is good with signs of use but no major damages. Collection/trials in Aylesbury. Shipping can be buyer arranged or paid by buyer. Orderly queue please😇 edit: Well…I did weigh it (albeit) on a dodgy luggage scale. It’s just over 10lbs. Solid!! I also looked at the controls a bit more and it’s really clever if you’re into that sort of thing. The Tone control is actually a rotary switch that dials in tone in or completely out. The pickup switch is also a rotary switch with 4 positions: Rear coil/Front coil/Both coils parallel/Both coils series. All positions sounds great and makes it quite a versatile instrument. (The pot is a bit scratchy but maybe from lack of use).
