  1. I’m making a solid alder version of this bass, mainly to try stuff out before tackling on Burly. Here’s the battery cover design IMG_7185.MOV
  2. I started a new design, that has some features I’ve never done before, like magnetic battery cover and wood pickup covers. I had an awesome piece of camphor burl that I thought would make a great fingerboard. And I did test before using to make sure it was solid enough to hold frets. The body is ash with a cottonwood burl top. The ash has a rear cap , also in ash. And the reason for this is I wanted to cut the control and battery covers before glueing on, as I wanted the grain pattern to match. Same principal with the front. I cut the pickup shapes and then glued the top on. The fingerboard is bound, with EVO frets. Matching headstock.
  3. The bottom 3 are bass, mid, treble (all boost only) The top 3 are passive tone (pull active/passive), Back pickup vol (pull for hum cancelling), front pickup volume
  4. You must have the custom version. The preamp took some getting used to, being boost only. But nice sounding and all useable frequencies. I wish I’d bought one of these years ago!
  5. Just picked this up today! Amazing build quality and playability. Not plugged it into my Berg gear yet, but expecting good things!
  6. Always help to actually connect the pickup ground wire to ground! Now it sounds as expected! Its the first time I have used an Xtender pickup and adding to a Noll preamp with many knobs makes it very flexible.
  7. You may remember this build some months back. I finally got round to lacquering it. I’m super pleased with it. Output is quite low and I’m not sure why, as the preamp was pre-wired. (Noll). just need to set up intonation etc.
  8. Burly cottonwood top!
  9. One of these has come up for sale nearby, and wondering if value has plummeted or if the are still a good buy. There’s plenty of good reviews but not much info on accurate used value. Sure, you see them on eBay and reverb but are prices inflated? cheers
  10. Hey guys, The bass player from Royal Hunt has a very distinctive sound. Any ideas how to achieve it? It can be heard clearly at 4:06. He has this sound on pretty much all their songs, regardless of which bass he uses. Great band by the way!
  11. Thanks. $950 CAD not too bad then. About 550 pounds
  12. Thanks guys. Any idea what these are worth?
  13. Can anyone identify this bass? It’s advertised as a 2017 jazz bass. No other description. The photos say “made in Japan” and the serial number is JD13001710. it has a PJ pickup arrangement too. I could be interested if it’s genuine! cheers
  14. My first bass was an Aria SB1000 purchased around '82. I was so inexperienced then! I just liked the shape. After a short time I thought the sound was a bit dull. I had someone remove the pickup and electronics and put two jazz pickups in, along with a hideous pickguard. Later on I had the bright idea of putting the original pickup back in, and cut a nice hole for it in the hideous pickguard. I sold it shortly after, and even saw it hanging on the wall in Monkey Business in Romford. Wish I kept it in its original state and hung on to it!
  15. So there could be some truth in it! Interesting.
  16. I saw an ad for a Trace Elliot valve amp (I think Quattra valve or something). It wasn't high wattage, but the seller said that Trace Elliot watts are louder! Correct me if I am wrong, but watts are watts aren't they? It made me laugh!
  17. I'm currently using a Berg HDN410 and HDN210. Very easy to transport and they both have a really sweet high frequency.
  18. Thanks. He’s asking $500 CAD which is about 285 pounds. Probably not worth it
  19. Can anyone tell from these crappy photos which model this Overwater is? And any idea what it’s worth? It’s being advertised here.
  20. Well the symbol idea didn’t work! Whilst the routing was perfect, when I put black resin in them it bled. I must have sanded 1mm off and it’s still there! Oh well, I’ll flip it over and use on another bass.
  21. I did think about a bass clef, but I just wanted them to all be the same. Maybe next bass could have all clefs!
  22. I wanted to try the Shaper for some fingerboard symbols. I decided to try an infinity. Tricky to draw in CAD as they get longer and narrow as you go up the neck. The plan is black resin
