1.
If you're a good organiser - you're MUCH better off running your own band - if you want it - go out and get it. Pick who you want and get gigging baby!!
Yes, I always end up being the daddy in the bands I'm in anyway, that's pretty much what I'm trying to do, but, and I'll be honest, it ain't easy to get people to even think about joining when your not in your 20s, or even older! Richard
2. Am getting a bit frustrated... my last band (a great band in my opinion and def the best band I have ever been in) ground slowly to a halt for many varied reasons... have been trying to get something going ever since, have hooked up with a coupla guys but it's been frustrating so far, I have even resorted to recording stuff myself even though my guitaring and drumming is rough as a dogs proverbials. Richard
3. Sorry guys, not been here for a while. Dunno about a low B, only ever used it with a 4 string. The frequency response in the handbook is listed as 50Hz to 15,000 Hz +/- 3 db, guess this is pretty standard. ...and I still have it and it's still for sale. Richard
4. I bust both thumbs playing rugby in my younger years and got my right hand stood on by the ref in one game, his stud went between the 2nd and 3rd metacarpals and now there's a big lump of gristle there which the tendon rubs over... I certainly do suffer for my art. Richard
5. Still got this.. still selling...
6. Yes, have a Dr Bump. Richard
7. I have one of these and would recommend it, and at this price.. somebody bite his hand off!!! Have a bump. Richard
8. Is there a smiley for DROOL!!!! Wenge neck as well. I've always wanted a Steamer in a gloss finish.. the red ones are really nice. Richard
9. Got an RC-20 about a week ago. It takes some getting used to.. i.e. tracking playing to a flashing light, although it's easier with the drum click track running. Right now.. brilliant, and I'm sure I'll get better and really begin to use it properly. The best tool I ever used for working things out, especially lyrics (a new job for me in a band context) and lyrical melody... a very nice piece of equipment, would def recommend to anyone. Richard.
10. That's early 80s. Went with the big fat bass heads they made at the time which were the next gen up from the thin bass heads with the glowing green lights (one of which I still have ) Richard
11. Hey.. I don't know what I mean like the sounds on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8I4jXsCf7I Richard
12. Please pardon my ignorance... do they make those whooshing wobble wobble wobble noises.. and wop wop wop noises, up and down the scale, getting faster and slower? Sorry I don't know the technical term for that, but I seen synth players make them noises by holding down a key and twiddling knobs. Would be interested if they do. Richard
13. I'd rather gargle glass than be in that band! Do you think they make it as complicated and inaccessable as possible on purpose But if you like that sort of thing then GO FOR IT. Richard
14. Every time I go to London I (stupidly) make a bee-line for Denmark St, every time I am completely uninspired by all the shops. IMHO overpriced and not very customer friendly. For example one of the shops wanted a whopping £1400 for a new T'Bird, another shop just along the road wanted an even whoppinger £1200 for a used T'Bird... my Mrs asked me why I had a long face and I said that I could get almost everything they had for cheaper in t'north or off the internet. Don't think I'll bother next time. Richard
15. I have to add that I did not believe what he was saying.. however he did lead up to the Spice Girls quote by saying that whoever played bass for Take That was on £35,000 a week... so I'm pretty sure I heard right. Maybe he meant YEAR. I thought it was a bit iffy cos I'd read that the Spice Girls were getting a round million for their reunion tour... ten week tour, the same as the band then! Richard
16. Was in Sound Control on Saturday watching a "Bass & Drums" Masterclass... and the bass guy said that whoever gets to play bass for The Spice Girls reunion tour would get £100,000 a week, A WEEK!!!!! Did I hear correct? Anyone got any info to back this up? Richard
17. I can't play and speak at the same time... I have to use so much brain to control my fingers I daren't have more than one pint before a gig... played sh*t-faced once (only once) and never never ever again!!! Richard
18. Agree with that, I leave my graphic in a sort of frown, lows and highs 0db (ish).. mids up 3-6db. Richard
19.
A sign hung near the stage like this helps: "All song requests must be submitted on a fifty pound note. The band reserves the right to substitute any requested song for one with some of the same notes in it."
I like that... how about "The band reserves the right to play any song in the style of Eric Morecambe... all the right notes, not neccesarily in the right order" Richard
20. 300 quid is way too much for a second hand HA3000 IMHO. With regard to sound, I think the HA3000 doesn't have the 11 band graphic EQ? That may be part of the issue. I have a HA3500 (with graphic eq) coupled with the 410XL cab and it's a very good combination. They are good amps and the cabs (specially the XL range) are pretty much bulletproof, tight punchy and VERY loud. I've never run it above 5 at a gig, even on a big festival stage. If you buy the amp, you might look for a 410XL to go with it, or the 4.5XL (a 4x10 with an extra horn thingy). Richard just checked ont'ebay and £279 + postage will get you a brand spanking new HA3500 with "buy it now". A much better bet. 21. Of the 2 shops in Sheffield, one has closed. The other was the original Academy of Sound shop which was Carlsbro before that. It's still open, was in there yesterday to look at a nice Spector Legend 4 for my little boy. If they do go under, keep an eye out cos in the last few days there will be some incredible deals if you have the balls to go in with hard cash and argue. I ventured to the original Carlsbro shop in Mansfield just as they were going under and got an incredible deal on my Warwick, mostly cos I flashed the cash under the mans nose and wouldn't budge upwards from my original offer. Richard
22. I'm selling my Shure Wireless System thingy cos it don't get much use now (and I want some new toys). Shure T4N true diversity receiver (sits on top of your amp) Shure T11-AQ transmitter (clips to your strap or fits in your back pocket) Connection cables (receiver to amp + guitar to transmitter) Shure mains power supply unit Runs at 173.8 MHz and doesn't need a licence. All comes in a nice plastic moulded foam filled case. All well looked after, in perfect working order and top notch condition. Works with guitar or bass no problem. £100 (was much much more than this new) PM me please if interested or any questions. Dunno about postage, but it isn't very heavy, but am in Sheffield if can arrange pickup. Richard
23.
Find yourself a second hand Hartle 410XL cab and a 3500 head, and you are well sorted mate.
Second that... would not have opted for the Hartle VX series in the face of the XL but you pays yer money and you takes yer choice. Never had to run my HA3500 further than 5 no matter where I been playing. Very decent and capable amps IMHO. Richard
