I've just taken this lovely thing in trade from grahamd and as I had discussed with him before trading, I'm moving it straight on at the agreed trade value. I'm tempted to keep it but I'm going through a bit of a Musicman phase at the moment so this doesn't really fit in with that Fender MIJ alder precision body which was converted professionally to PJ by Howard the Bass doc who also did the electrics, CTS etc Lindy Fralin precision pup DiMarzio Ultrajazz bridge pickup Hipshot tuners Gotoh 201b bridge Fender neck plate Warmoth USA maple/maple precision neck, vintage tinted gloss finish with string retainer It really does feel lovely and plays well. The nut is Jazz width (38mm) but depth wise it's quite chunky, to my mind reminiscent of a Blue Sparkle Steve Harris Signature P so to P bass players it shouldn't feel alien or narrow. The back of the body has some indentations (from I assume a protruding belt buckle) but nothing nasty and nothing that has broken the surface of the finish. Collection/meet up preferred (I'm in South Yorkshire) but will ship at buyer's expense as it's now back in it's box and ready to go (in a leather look gig bag for added protection) Link to grahamd's original ad below (thanks grahamd): https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/330298-traded-high-quality-pj-bitsa/

That’s a bit naughty to say the least...😡

I agree with both of the above comments. As Chiliwailer said the best word to describe the Special is ‘refined’. Compared to other Stingrays, I’d say the the build quality and overall feel is like that found on the previous PDN models, but with the added bonus of the new 3-band EQ in a lighter package. I usually like heavier basses, but there is certainly no hint of these feeling cheaper than their weightier forebears. With regards to the smoothness of the sound, I’d agree that it’s still got attitude/can go punky. The re-voicing has not made it more aggressive. Certainly not as aggressive as a Sterling for example, which is my particular favourite at the moment. 😁

It's NOT EVEN been nine whole days since I bought any bass gear...

Hi, my name’s DeeDee. It has been 3 days since I last purchased any bass gear - I’ve already got a sweat on 💦 😓 -
I don’t think I’ve ever played a bass set as ‘factory’ that I’ve felt entirely comfortable with. Always feels too high to me. A bit of minor tweaking suffices (usually straightening the neck to pretty much arrow straight and lowering the saddles to suit).

Beautiful 2015 US standard Precision in Olympic White with Tort plate and lovely dark rosewood neck. Purchased a few months back from Mr Zed of this very parish. The bass did have a metal/graphite nut fitted but during my ownership it’s had this replaced (to put it back to stock), a set up and a fresh set of 7250 strings fitted (all by a rather talented local luthier). I also replaced the plasticy knobs with proper solid flat top jobbies. EDIT - Straplock buttons shown in the photos but the original ones will be fitted back on prior to trade/sale. The bass is pretty much immaculate, plays and sounds great and comes complete with a Fender SKB Deluxe case (no keys). Weight - approx 8 1/4 lbs so reasonably lightweight. Sale preferred or trade for PDN or Ltd Edition model EBMM Sterling 4H, 4HS or 4HH plus cash your way Based in South Yorkshire I would prefer collection or meet up but will ship at buyers expense - UK only. Photos added. I’ve attached the link below to Mr Zed’s Original ad (hope you don’t mind Mr Z). I had a dealer call me back today ref my initial enquiry from a few weeks back for a Charcoal Sparkle 4HH. They said they were expecting a couple of HH models in over the coming weeks but the Charcoal Sparkle “wasn’t available in that configuration”. I should’ve offered to send him a photo of one 😂. However, the upshot is that dealers are obviously being told by Strings & Things that certain colour/model combinations are special order only.
-
Purely because I fell in love with how it played, how it sounded and I couldn’t bare to wait 9 months for the HH in this colour. Weak I know but, that’s pretty much how it happened. Now don’t get me wrong, in the future if someone out there found themselves in the exact polar opposite position ie they bought a 4HH but really wanted a 4H, I may well trade. But unless that happens, this bad boy’s going nowhere as I’m a very happy bunny 😁 Edit - Also just to add, I’ve only very recently been introduced to HH basses having recently picked up a EBMM Sterling 4HH. This comes after many years of having single pickup basses (including many Stingrays) so the thought of having just a H wasn’t entirely alien to me.
-
I must admit I was thinking of changing the plate on my EBMM Sterling 4HH. Same as the op’s colours at present ie black, rosewood, black plate 🤔 Replacements for the 4HH Sterling do seem a bit scarce though.

😂 That’s one way of putting it. No worries and no offence taken 👍

I’ll let you know how it goes Mart, taking it out Saturday. If we have anything in this neck of the woods I’ll give you a shout. You're right about the roasted necks, especially with ebony boards. They just feel special. I did try a maple one when I bought mine and although the same dimensions, roasted etc, it just didn’t feel as nice to me.
-
Although not figured, I wouldn’t say the necks are unattractive. I think they look great and feel even better.
-
I think so. Mine’s roasted and feels beautiful, but visually is not like the tiger striped effect that was on such as the PDN Neptune Blue models. There’s a hint of it but certainly not as striking.
-
Very true. In my experience it’s very unusual for an EBMM to not be top quality in terms of fit and finish. I’ve always found consistency of quality to be one of their major plus points. I’m thankful that mine is spot on.
-
Mine is noticeably lighter than my previous ‘rays (certainly a lot lighter than my Sterling) but I wouldn’t say I’d class it as ‘really light’. There are no string alignment issues with mine either. Really happy with it 😁
