  1. Can’t seem to find a feedback thread for @roblpm so I’m happy to start one.

Just received a mint green Fender P plate from Rob, an original Fender part in quite literally mint condition.  All for the very generous cost of paying £10 to the Turkey earthquake disaster fund.

Great communication, lightening quick delivery, and an all round top fella.

    Many thanks again.

  2. Just bought a rather lovely Precision from @Eldon Tyrell.  A very speedy transaction, we messaged, I jumped in the car, I played, I liked, I bought.

Bass was exactly as described and Thorsten was a perfect gentleman with great communication throughout (I even received a goody bag) 😜

    Many thanks again.

Great price on one of these.  On the basis of the neck job that Dan had done on this by Jon S I did the same to my US Sterling.  Lovely job and a definite upgrade to those of us who prefer a lacquered neck to the oil/wax rub jobby.

It was @Horizontalste who had the neck done on this one Mart, he then kindly furnished me with the details and I had the same done to the black 3-EQ I had at the time. But I agree, a serious upgrade at significant cost.

    Doesn't it just!

I never thought I'd let it go either, my Mrs & the kids are giving me earache over this one. My eldest has offered full asking price just to keep it in the family, he doesn't play! 🤣

I can imagine. Well I’ll be keeping an eye on it as I just might want to buy it back 🤔😂

Never thought about black on it, off to google to find an example.

I have a Pearl white which I always pair with a black pickup cover when I fancy a change.

Usually I agree with @Deedee, that's why my Stingray is his (one of) old Stingray.

However, I really like the colours just as they and I don't say that about many Ray's without maple boards!

    It's a cool lookin' bat!

I must point out that I believe sticking a black plate on improves the look of most basses, although when black’s too much, a minty green one could be the answer.

    This was mine 😍

I’m not sure if I have posted mine on here.

This is my 2000 Stingray, I have had this about 6 years now. I have mixed feelings about this bass, it plays so well and just feels so comfortable, but I have never been thrilled by the colour. I just can’t seem to bring myself to sell or trade it for fear of not getting another quite so good.

A black plate and pickup cover would make it all better 😉.

It’s always nice to get a few opinions Deedee especially if it’s a lot of money you’re spending, I’m always asking or PM’ing someone for advice, I’m surprised a few people haven’t blocked me 😁

Oh yes I’ll definitely be extremely cautious and thorough if/when something comes up  🤞.

'73's "usually" come up sunburst/tort, I don't recall ever seeing a natural/black one at all for sale recently. I bought a '73 P bass last year from ATB Guitars. I can highly recommend them. Mike Long is good to deal with, and it seems in retrospect that I got a really good deal on mine, given the way prices are now compared with only a year ago. All original bass, non-original case. I love it to bits.

Another option, and one I would consider, is contacting a couple of dealers and putting the word out that you're looking. Richard Henry is a straight up dealer, and is on "safari" all the time. If he knows someone is looking, he might find it. He's just put up a couple of '68 Tele basses ex-Oasis.

Most of the early 70s Precisions I’ve seen in natural finish have had maple fingerboards and I think they came with white pickguards , not to say there isn’t any with rosewood and black pickguard as I’m sure you could order what you wanted

Thanks for the info. I’m a little green when it comes to what was available/standard and when, so I’ll be swatting up and leaning heavily on you guys and others in the know. 😉

I may well be looking to sell my black 73 P bass on here in the very near future, only thing is that it does not have the original pickups which I have been waiting to come up on Reverb or Ebay, no such luck so far

Could be tempted, but the dream vintage p I’d like would be natural with a rosewood board and black plate (I think someone was selling a ‘72 the exact same a couple of years ago @Clarky possibly)?

I have a ‘significant birthday’ this year which has made me start thinking about getting a bass as old as me! Would be a ‘63 Jazz if poss.

I guess I could go to No Tom (although they ignored me when I was in there a few weeks ago) or the Bass Gallery as ‘getting one off eBay’ (as if one would come up there!) is probably not a good idea!

I’ve scoured the usual places and Reggaebass suggested Andy Baxter but any other thoughts on how I might source one and not get ripped off?

I share your fears. I’m celebrating (?) my 50th and I would love a P bass from ‘73 but am scared to death of purchasing one from anyone other than someone such as Andy Baxter or a well known member on here, where the authenticity and provenance is known. 😬😬😬
