  1. The outstanding one for me is Trace amps. I’ve tried pretty much everything else, but I always go back to my trusty old TE heads and particularly the AH250 SMX.

Basses it would probably be Musicman.  I love Fender, Status and Aria, but I’ve had lots of Musicman basses. I’ve never had a bad one and I’ve not been without one in the stable over the past 10 years.

EDIT - Oops forgot cabs. Barefaced. I’m a big fan of both the 12”s and 10”s. For power, weight and size, pound for pound they’re the best I’ve tried by a long way.

I have just tested an Ah500x head and everything seemed to work fine, but I have to turn the gain control almost to full 100% to make the "ok" led light. I would say 9-9,5 in the 10 scale.

Is that normal or is it a sign that something is not working correctly?

Sometimes that’s how it is.  The lights/indicators for the input gain dictate how far you turn it.  I’ve had/have lots of TE amps and between 8 and full to light the lights is not uncommon.

Out of interest, how long did you have to wait to receive a response to an order request?  Nothing back yet…

They were pretty quick iirc. I imagine you’ll hear something over the next day or two (weekend and all that).

Oh yes, you've sold me completely there.  I'll get a quote, website seems a bit of a toughie to navigate, did you go for regular thickness Colour 36: Matte Black Single Layer .090"?

Yep, exactly that. In special instructions I requested a bevelled edge as it wasn’t clear that it came with one as standard. It came with one anyway and they didn’t seem to charge me any extra, so I assume that was standard.

Yeah it's in great shape, hasn't been played much I don't think!

I think it would really suite a matte black pick guard rather than regular black, so i'll be on the hunt for one of those.  All recommendations gratefully received!

See my post on page 55 (I fitted one to my CS 4HH). Looks far better.   From here: https://www.pickguardplanet.com/

Mock it up in a photo editing suite to sate your (and our) curiosity maybe.

I’m pretty sure @walshy sold one a while back which looked pretty special!

    None more black.

I’ll admit that it was in the back of my mind when I bought the RW but honestly, that thick C maple neck feels and plays so well that I don’t want to change a thing.

  8. I currently own 2 sig basses and have owned several others. I’ve never bought for the association, only for  the fact that they’re good basses and have a particular feature or features.

A case in point, I recently bought a Roger Waters sig P bass and promptly changed the pickup, the loom, the bridge and the knobs. I wanted it purely because I wanted a good looking P with a 44mm nut thick ‘c’ neck and 9.5” radius board.

As Mart (the OP) I’m fortunate enough to own a Status CW signature. I went for that over a S2 or S3 because of the pickup position, the mid-control, the volume/blend knob position and the ‘standard’ carbon finish (that I so desired). 😍

I suppose the blue sparkle Steve Harris sigs I had were down to my curiosity (being a huge fan in my younger days) but the fact that I no longer own one suggests they weren’t quite for me.

  9. My latest additions….

First up a beautiful Roger Waters sig.  The B/W/B plate was already fitted to the bass (I have the original single ply black one too) but it’s now also sporting a Gotoh 201 bridge, chrome flat topped knobs, a Kiogon loom and my favoured Custom Shop ‘62 pickup. It sounds superb and plays beautifully.  The big, chunky necks on these really do suit me.

Next, as I had a Status P neck loitering in the corner of my man cave, I snapped up this first series Squier Classic Vibe body in Sonic Blue (the holes for the bridge have been redrilled to take a std BBOT). Again it sounds great and plays really well straight off the bat with no neck adjustment, shims etc required.  Ordinarily I would’ve put a black plate on it by now, but I think it looks great as it is.  I’m loving the colour contrast between the neck and the body.

All in all, very pleased. 😁

  10. Just bought a P body from Jono. Promptly shipped (even though UPS did their best to make delivery a far more nervy experience for us both than they needed to). Great communication throughout.

    Many thanks again.

  11. Reading with interest.

Without wishing to derail, I have a Status neck where the neck fixing screw holes are a little slack, so I bought some threaded inserts and machine screws to fit instead. Given my skills, I wonder if the reaming method would be the safest option to sufficiently enlarge the existing screw holes to take the inserts. 🤔

I've also fitted a new pick guard. The old black one was past its best so I bought a nice white pearl three ply. I think it's an improvement.

No, no, no, no, no.  Black’s always best! 🤣

    Many thanks again.
