Mine isn't as loud as my Orange 500 watt head. I'm not sure what effect the different impedance has on that though.

That’ll be your EQ setting. Change that and you’ll be as loud as you’ll ever need to be. 👍

I have owned both a factory fretless SB900 and an SB1000 so can vouch for fretless models.

Well everyday’s a school day. I stand corrected*

    (*enter Alan Partridge punchline here).

EDIT - As stated above, the SB1000 was indeed available as factory fretless so apologies for causing an unnecessary stinky poo storm.  I'm just off to self- flagellate...... ☹️

  3. Very nice. I’m a huge fan of Aria basses of this era.

I’m not entirely sure any of the SBs were fretless when they left the factory though, although I’m sure other more learned members on here will correct me if that’s not the case.

EDIT - Turns out it must be the SB-R series I was thinking of as the SB1000 was indeed available as factory fretless.  My bad and apologies for derailing the thread. 🤐

  4. @Downunderwonder may have hit the button re the cabs you’re using. If you were to use a/a couple of modern, Uber efficient cabs I think you may find that you have plenty of oomph. I used to use my 250 SMX regularly with, initially a Barefaced Super 12 then a Super Twin.  I couldn’t imagine ever needing more headroom.

  5. I know I’m very biased, but if you love your SMX I’d suggest getting your hands on an AH400 version. Cheap as chips and you’ll never run out of headroom, although I’m quite surprised you’re running out now tbh.

  6. Ooh yes, yes, yes. I’ve used a variety of Trace heads through various BF cabs and they’ve all sounded immense.

The oldest head is a MKIV AH250 but the combination I’ve used most is an AH250 SMX with a Super 12 and then later a Super Twin. Great sound and dispersion but I’ve now moved on to the BF tens in the form of a Four10 and Two10. I prefer the coloured sound of the tens as it’s nearer the sound I have in my head. Haven’t been able to use these in anger over the past 2/3 years, but I’m very much looking forward to it when the time comes.

Also, can anyone recommend a matching cab for this?

I used my barefaced super 12 (2x12) and it was great, but I'm not sure if this wants/needs/is designed for use with a multiple 10 sealed cab?

    Congratulations.

You could always try 2no, Barefaced Two10s? Switchable 12 or 4 ohms, so 4 ohms with a single cab, 2 ohms with both. I think that combination would sound pretty epic.

EDIT - And no dreaded overhang 👍

I thought it was about a lesser bass with a fake 'encore' decal

I thought similar.. Maybe 'Encores' were brilliant and we're only just realising it......

I thought blimey has it got the point where early Encores are so sought after they’re being faked?? 🤣
