1. By the way, in what sense is this thread 'Off Topic' and not 'General Discussion'?

 3. This is nothing new, I saw lots of these in South Africa a decade ago. I've also seen them for sale in UK guitar shops too. 6.
Those of you who use Schaller strap locks, do you just tighten the nut on the strap, or do you also use thread lock to prevent the nut from losening? I notice that Locktite make several types of thread lock and wondered which one was most commonly used by Basschatters?
I don't use Loctite or anything but I do regularly do a finger-tight check and if it's loosening then get the spanner out.
 7.
I see the 'root notes only' thing if it's being used with a genuine understanding as a pretty closed off musical mind, that to me is a serious problem.
To me it reads as slaphappy lack of concern for the song need not waste every one's time - if that doesn't suit then don't apply. No problem.
 8. I can't see any problem with the advert. If you don't like it then don't apply.
 9. Anyway, here we are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G51tmiwMlk
 10.
.. I don't recall them standing out in any way at the time ....
I remember them as standing out by being funky - unlike most rock bands of the time.
 11.
... Anyone remember Vinegar Joe? A band from the 70's with RP and Elkie Brookes sharing vocals. They were great. I saw them at a flea-pit called Cleo's in Derby in about '74.
Yes, Pete Gage (ex Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band) was the band leader. Palmer was also with the Alan Bown Set.
 12.
it's useful if you're trying to design a fairly standard fender and want to know what looks right to you before you start browsing for pickguards.
I know but I wanted stack knobs and cream pickup covers.
 13. His whole catalogue is full of fantastic players (including Jamerson) and great songs.
 14. That was massively disappointing.
 15. I was once in a band that advertised for a guitarist - 'no time wasters, no pedalboards'
 16. Nothing wrong with the BBOT.
 17.
Thanks! I'm enjoying everything about it except the ugly generic Warwick paddle shaped headstock. If I can the cash spare it would be off to a reputable luthier to have it restyled into something more in keeping with the rest of the design of the bass.
I remember you saying you didn't like the headstock, which I kind of agree with you, but the gold with gold hardware looks superb despite my common resistance to gold hardware.
 18.
From a BBC news report "The bass crashed into you like a steam train. I had a pain in my chest."
That sounds more like a kick drum than a bass.
 19. And if you do this you will devalue the Lakland and make it less sellable.
 20.
Warwick Pro-Series MiK Star Bass.
That looks fabulous.
 21. I can't say I've tried it because, to be honest, (1) I think the Lakland bridge is fine and (2) I think the Badass bridge is pug ugly, and - in your case - (3) you're really happy with your DD P bass. So why are you even considering it?
 22.
Is it not useful to know that every C# is between a G# and a F#
I do know that C# is the 4th of G# and that F# is the 4th of C# etc. and it's good to know the cycle of fifths (and indeed fourths in reverse, and your scales etc.) but none of that tells me where the notes are on the fingerboard. In fact, once I am playing a certain key, let's say C#major, then I'm not even thinking where is the F# note, I am just playing the fourth because I know on the fingerboard where the fourth is in relation to the root. And if someone were to say to me, 'hey, what note is that?' I'd be as likely to reply 'fourth' as 'F#'. However, the problem with your original observation is not that it's unwise to know the circle of fifths - quite the opposite, it's very good to know it - but that's not the way to learn the fingerboard. You might equally as well have said that in standard tuning the bass is tuned in fourths e.g. BEAD at the 7th fret. OK, totally correct, but it doesn't learn me the fingerboard and never will.
 23.
Dunno! Can't see it. It was Ben Allison's 'It's Only Just Begun'. The cover is barely recognisable as The Carpenters.
That's the one.
... A good song doesn't have to be a 'classic' to be a good song any more than a 'classic' has to be a good song to be a 'classic' (that does make sense if you read it enough times !!)
Were you thinking of Moondance?
