1. Happy stringsdirect customer here too. AND it was the only place where i could find a XL extension for my leather strap! Only time didn't have nxt day delivery was because of the postal strikes but they emailed me straight away saying that they couldn't garantee the same level of service and the reason why. I did receive the strings 3 days after eventually
2.
Have tried a ashdown abm 500 head which i liked the sound of, im also keen on the peavey tour 450 head and the hartke lh500. Anyone had any experience with any of these heads ? Budget is about £450.
if you're going down the solid state route you may want to consider the gallien krueger 700rb 480w..it's a little bit more expensive though. i have the 1001rb and it's a beast!
3.
Wow! I have a G&L and also a Stingray. Does this mean I'll be able to undress women at a distance!?
you're the bass Rambo!
4. Living in London means aprox 6 miles can take from 45min to 1.50h each trip, depending on line closures and bloody buses. I've had worse tbh
5.
The new Warwick Rockbasses are now out and are visually identical to the German made ones - made somewhere else and no horrible 'RockBass' on the headstock- but they haven't made it to the UK yet as far as I know. They're getting good reviews on the Warwick forum here and pictures and details of the Corvette $$ are here. (Their images are all 'dynamic' so I can't post a picture from Warwick's web-site here. Sorry.)
yes, already seen the rockbass $$...now that's a stunner another one for my gas shortlist?...if they're in the same price range of the 3 mentioned above, hell yeah!
6.
Hi there! My real name is Hélder. I'm 26 and I play electric bass for almost 4 years. I play with a band called N'Asa and in a chorus called Anima Chourus PS. Sorry for any english mistake
Bemvindo ao forum Helder! Isto e uma comunidade mto internacional cm podes ver That's portuguese for ya BCr's...basically said 'welcome' to the new chap
7. bump on this one... has anyone played these 3 basses? spector legend custom 4, ray 34 and l200? got a few good comments on the last 2 but no info on the legend. cheers
8. I have the ABM810 and it shake my bones to the core. The new MAG looks more like an ABM now, much better than the old version imo
9.
How close are the pickups to your strings? And how powerful are the magnets? If they are too close or ridiculously stong, they can have an adverse effect on the natural vibration of the string causing the sounded notes to ring out of tune. Can't promise but try dropping your pickups right down and try again.
not very close, stock fender mim jazz pickups and my action is quite high...I'll try a new battery on my tuner tonight and see if i notice any difference
10. thanks for the replies guys. the saddles do move as they should. Is it the tuner? it's been working fine and the light is still bright red (Boss TU-2) - an try and change the batery though. The thing is, it doesn't sound really out of tune to my hears, and some of the harmonics are atually in tune, but when it's a fretted note...well the tuner says it's not.
11. So...changed the strings the other day, brand new Elites Player 110 - 50. Was using the Stadium series 105-45 previously. As nomal, I adjusted the truss rod and it's all fine, moved onto adjusting the intonation - the sadles don't work properly, especially the E string, I mean there's no visible difference in the tuner (i tried both ways - tight and loose the screws, although it was always flat). The saddles move as they should but i feel i needed a longer space to move them a bit further. Now, this is a MIM Jazz, bridge Gotoh 201, the action is quite high but that's the way i play it...can a higher gauge make such a difference or are there other issues to consider?
12. I'm looking for a pedal that can give a ballsy colour to my natural tone as well as overdrive/distortion when needed. Don't want to spend much. Now...is there any shop in London that have a good stock of pedals to try out?
13.
But why would you get Fretbuzz after changing over strings of the same gauge??
fretbuzz? same gauge? im putting heavier gauge strings and fretbuzz is never a problem really as my action is high as f**k, but that's the way i like it
14. ok cheers guys ...where'r my hex keys again?
15.
A normal bass neck will stay as it was unless you are changing to a different make or guage of strings, or different tunings.
It's the case, going with a heavier gauge
16. If I change strings one by one will the neck keep the tension? Is there a better way to do it? E.g. start with the G or with the E string? Last time I changed strings, i took them all off as I wanted to clean the fretboard and replace the bridge, but it took me ages to adjust the neck as I wanted it to be so i was wondering if I do it this way the neck stays in place?
17. anyone? spector, g&l tribute or sterling ray??
18. How about this one? http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/26...stand_carry_bag
19. any thougts on the spector? does it compare to these two? assuming I want a thunderous bottom end used mainly for heavy rock - through a GK1001RBII + Ashdowm ABM 810.
20.
Finally a Behringer BDI 21 which is a copy of the Sansamp Bass Driver. Arguably the only Behringer pedal that is actually any good! Sounds very similar (read the same as) the Sansamp! Mint condition in box and with instructions. Best web price is £32 plus shipping so I'll say £25 for this one. Once again, pickup from Ruislip, North West London or I can post.
RE the BDI, is it still available? would you be willing to meet up in central london to do the deal? with this postal strike...you know lol
21.
Another to consider for that sort of sound is a Warwick Corvette $$. Same sort of concept. I loved the original one I had. Amazing sounding bass!
The $$ is out of my budget unfortunately...I would really like to try them both, A-B them if possible but that's almost impossible, also, any thoughts on the Specor Legend, the custom one? Is it worth putting down on the list?
22.
Yes, they're both really nice instruments. If anything, the G&L is more flexible in terms of the sounds it can create, but if I had to choose one, it'd be the Ray 34. Having had both, I just like the top end clarity of the Ray better. But I've always liked punchy hifi-sounding basses. As for build quality, there's really not much in it. Both are excellent quality instruments. Top notch Indonesian made stuff, the same sort of quality as you get on the Lakland Skylines. I think we've agreed that they're both very close in terms of spec (apart from the 3-band eq on the Sterling) and quality. Just comes down to which one you like best. Rich.
I'm aware of the similarities and I'm tempted by both, in terms of sound, which one would give me more earth-shaking bottom end? Playing hard rock/ 80's heavy rock/metal kind of thing...with fingers EDIT: also have my eyes on the Spector Legend
23. same league instruments I would say...opinions?
