1. ***This is an old ad, but the following still applies! Hi all. I've been using this for the last few months. Great amp. This might sound cliched, but this is warm, powerful, punchy.... with a great para EQ and very musical compressor. I'm looking to sell it for 450 Sterling pounds, and I'll include postage for that price. The amp is working flawlessly. I've had it all looked over by the best amp guy in my area, and he has given it a clean bill of health. The rear of the amp was bent in slightly at some point in it's life a centimeter or two, so when you take the cover off the amp it's trickier than it should be to get back on. I'm just saying this for full disclosure, the amp was in no way damaged internally, and is functioning 100%. Also, this is one of the earlier models which has quarter inch jack speaker outs, not speakon. Will come in a good quality Gator 2 Unit rack case, not the 3 unit one pictured here.
2.
Besides the output transistors themselves, loads of other components can have died or have been damaged, so there's no saying that fixing it is easy or hard. As to the other amp, yes, you may have damaged components behind the output transistors in such a way that the sound stays but changes.
So good news then.... I have a feeling that I've done something to the inuke. It definitely sounded off at the weekend. Luckily, they don't cost the earth.... but still a nasty little episode.
3. Spanner for sure. But, I really thought I couldn't do any damage so long as I had the 2nd amp off. Silly silly me. Lesson learned. How do you check to see if a power amp has lost some of it's function? Or .... does it even work like that? Can a class D amp kind of half die, but still sound pretty ok?
4. I was doing a bit of A/B ing between a GK mb 200 and my power amp / tone hammer pedal setup. I thought it would be nice and handy to hook both amps up to the same cab, so I could A/B more easily. Silly me. Although I never had both amps on at the same time, I didn't realize that even if it's not on, connecting an amp to the same binding post as another is a terrible idea. Anyway, the GK died. Luckily it's not a terribly expensive bit of kit..... but will I be able to get it fixed? Also, it may be my imagination, but the inuke is not sounding quite as good as it used to. Could I have damaged that too? And is there any way to find out for sure. Thoughts? (Other than "You total and utter spanner")
5. Ok Kenny, let me know if you are into it. The Mesa wouldn't be a million miles away from the SVT 7 with the valve pre would it? Although I've never played an SVT7 so I'm only guessing.
6. Could I interest you in a Mesa M pulse 360?
7. Hi is it boxed? Any pictures? How old is it and is it still under warranty? Send me a PM if your still selling this. Thanks.
8. I've had a compact for about a month now, and only just got the midget. I broke the cab in using the sine wave, and then used it over the weekend where I had 3 gigs in various sizes of room. My first impressions are.... that I prefer the compact by quite a bit. I find the midget to sound "small" in comparison. That's no surprise, the thing is tiny! I think it performs very well for it's size, but I still knew I was using a smaller cab than usual..... I hear the difference, it sounded more compressed at volume. However, I'm not unreasonable, and I wasn't expecting miracles, so I'm happy enough with it, (it really is a tiiny box!). Where it really comes into it's own is when you put it on top of the compact. Then the whole rig gets very loud, very balanced, and very very easy to hear with great projection into the crowd. So... for that reason I'll be keeping the midget, although the thoughts of a double compact set up are very enticing.... I think overall I'd miss the tweeter in the midget. Also, having a cab that small, that can still manage a full gig, is bound to come in handy someday! I had an EBS neo 112 which was about the same size, but that was almost totally useless in comparison, volume wise (although it sounded good up to a point).
9. That is very very lovely. I'm not looking for another bass right now, but if I was....
10. I'll take the octave if you still have it?
11. If the Octamizer is still around let me know!
12. Just incase my Tone hammer pedal ever goes belly up.... I just realized I'd have no way to get a strong signal into my power amp! I'd also have no DI.... Is there a cheapo pedal , ideally something small, that would get me out of a pickle should this unlikely situation ever occur? So, it'd have to be half alright sounding, with enough juice to drive a power amp, and with a working DI. And be cheap. Any suggestions?
13. Thanks Alex! Don't worry I've bought them primarily as bass cabs, I probably will never use em as a P.A..... but it's nice to know that I could if I needed to.
14.
I asked Alex about this last year - he doesn't recommend it. His cabs are designed for playing bass through. I think he has plans to design Barefaced PA cabs in due course, and I imagine they'll be something a bit special.
I'd be very very interested in a barefaced PA, if it's as light as the bass stuff! I might email re using the stack as a PA, but if it's not a great idea then that's fair enough.
No reason why it shouldn't work & sound good. Bass gear is very similar to PA gear as we bassists have a full frequency range to cover.
This also makes sense though.
15. Sounds interesting. I did put a bit of music through the compact for the fun, but without a tweeter there was no way it was going to sound good. But, with the midget T on top it might sound good enough. It's probably just a pie in the sky idea, it's just cos I'm sick of packing up our big band pa at the end of the night on my own.... all the others have gone home at that stage and I'm left to do the DJ'ing. Our band system sounds extremely good with recorded music, it's probably a bit of overkill for what I'm doing. I see guys come in after the band (if I'm not booked as DJ) and some of the systems they bring are laughable. It's rare to even see a sub. Even in big rooms to hundreds of people. They'll be BLASTING music through a pair of sub par tops, their amps peaking like crazy, with little or no bass and a horrible tinny sound. That's not in every case, but it happens often enough. Even guys with decent speakers can't seem to get a good sound most of the time.... I suspect very low bit rate MP3s, and cheap power amps / soundcards are to blame..... but that's a bit OT. I love to get a good sound for the disco part of the night, I believe that people dance more easily, even if they don't realize there is a good sound..... it's subliminal. Also, I enjoy myself more! I could probably DJ with just half of the P.A. in most rooms - that would be a 1000 watt dynacord sub and one 500 watt EV ZX4 pole mounted, would be plenty for most situations. But.... I just love the size and weight of the barefaced stuff so I'm still curious to see if it would work!
16. Midget is 2 way innit? The compact would act as a kind of a sub I suppose. I'll defo give it a try. The midget I've ordered has the tweeter.
17. Found this on the barefaced site....
Both the Midget and Super Twelve are available with high quality tweeters with custom built crossovers which extend the response to the limit of human hearing with remarkably even response, low distortion and none of that spikey fizzy sound that marrs less well designed woofer+tweeter cabs. They can even do double duty as high output compact PA cabs!
Wonder how the midget will sound with the compact under it as a P.A. Quite good I'd imagine. Some of the gear that you see DJ's bringing in to play big rooms is shocking, so I know it'd be better than 90% of the DJ rigs out there. Not as good as our 3K dynacord / EV P.A..... but probably more than enough for plenty of the rooms we play.
18.
I think there are anti-discrimination laws against this sort of thing.
Lol!
Try it.....if they sound ok then you get to stay late and pack up last.
I will indeed try it, but the midget might be another week or two getting here... so was just wondering if anyones already tried.
