  1. These came to me already installed in a Jazz bass I bought from France. I’d never heard of them and I suspect a lot of people in the UK have never heard of them too. I had absolutely no expectations from them but when I tried them for the first time, I was mightily impressed. So much so that I would consider these to be the finest Jazz pickups I have ever heard. Favourites are entirely subjective of course but these boutique French pups to have a certain je ne sais quoi… actually I do know what they have, and that’s a lovely tone. A new set will cost you 220,00€ and I’m selling mine for £125 posted in the UK. http://hepcatpickups.com/produit/jazz-bass-62/ I don’t have any sound clips recorded myself, but there’s a nice demo I found on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slbCX5435sE
  2. I'm an interior designer. Restaurants, cafeterias, eateries and coffee shops for corporate clients exclusively. Exclusively because they are the clients of the design company I joined 3 years ago after taking a degree in architecture, at age fourty, following many, many years as a cook/chef/burger flipper. It's a mixed bag.
  3. Selling all my basses except one is tough. Which child do I love the most?

  4. Last, but not least, in my big bass clearout is a Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Jazz bass. I’ve had several CV basses over the last few years and this was the pick of the bunch. It really seems, to me, to feel like a much more expensive bass. The pickups were good but the pots were crap, so I upgraded to one of Ki0gons quality VVT looms (original pots included). It’s wearing TI Jazz flats and resides in a new Armourdillo hard case that has never left my house. It weighs 4.12kg or 9lb 1oz, was made in 2009 and is in excellent condition with no bumps or scrapes. Basically, it’s a player and I was seriously considering keeping it as my only bass instead of my Pro P. £325 GBP collected from Kingswood, Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. I'll gladly consider interest from mainland EU members who have good feedback and presence. I will post at your cost and exact quotes will be obtained for anyone with a serious interest. All trials are very welcome in Bristol. Payment is by cash or bank transfer.
  5. Saw it, liked it, bought it, loved it! A short scale Fender Japan Mustang ’66 reissue, in Olympic White with a rosewood board. It’s very light at 3.77kg or 8lb 5oz and incredibly fun to play. Being more accustomed to the usual 34” scale, I zipped around the fingerboard with a great big cheesy grin on my face. I treated it to some new Labella Mustang flats and sourced an XL sized Gator guitar hardcase in which to safely store it. It from circa 2010/11 and aside from its evolution to an off-white colour, looks like new. Unmarked, perfect neck and I suppose it must have some light paint swirling somewhere through being played, but the colour makes it hard to tell. Typical example of high-quality Japanese craftsmanship, it’s a very solid feeling bass. It’s just not getting played though so I’m moving it on. £600 GBP collected from Kingswood, Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. I'll gladly consider interest from mainland EU members who have good feedback and presence. 6. With a little reluctance, up on the chopping block is my 2008 Fender Japan 75RI Jazz. I bought this because it was a ringer for the first decent bass I owned thirty odd years ago, an actual ’75 Jazz. The rosewood blocked and bound neck is an elusive combo to find with a black body, outside of the Mexican 70’s bass and more upmarket Fender offerings of a few years ago. It’s fair to say I was looking for a quality passive version of this guitar, on and off, for about twenty years. It came with a tort pickguard and I had a new bwb guard made to match the original ‘75 I used to own. It looks mean, moody and magnificent with either scratch plate, and if that wasn’t cool enough, it has a matching black headstock taking it deep into icy tundra levels of coolness. It still says Jazz Bass on the headstock but it’s in black and can’t really be seen unless closely looked for, adding to its unusualness. The string spacing is tight and the neck tapers towards the nut in a vintage Jazz bass style which felt instantly familiar in my hand. The wiring is one of Ki0gon’s high quality series/parallel looms which gives it an extra sonic option. I tried quite a few different makes of pickup in this bass, but eventually settled on the excellent Fender V-Mod pickups, the type currently fitted as standard in the American Professional model. The original loom and Fender Japan ’75 pickups are included in the sale. I also treated it to a brand-new vintage style Fender hardcase which has never left the house. The cosmetic condition is excellent, with a pristine neck and only a bit of paint swirling, a little buckle rash and one tiny ding on the back of the body. I think the pickup placement is the more traditional spacing, not the 70’s one with the pup closer to the bridge, but I’m happy to be corrected on that point. Being shiny and black it’s a total fingerprint magnet but it looks great and sounds great. 4.18kg or 9lb 3 and a half oz, which is considerably lighter than most of the original 70’s Fenders I’ve tried. IMO the Japanese reputation for the care and attention to detail they bring to marrying pieces of wood together is well deserved. It’s hard to price because it’s so difficult to find anything that looks quite like it, but I’d like £850 collected which, considering the extra scratch plate, loom, pups and new hardcase, means me taking a bit of a financial hit. I not in any hurry to part with it and it’ll be no hardship to keep. £850 GBP collected from Kingswood, Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. 7. I got this in a trade recently and, apart from fitting it with GHS Precision flats, it’s barely been touched. Made in 2019, it is pristine with all the case candy and had Fender pickup covers neatly fitted. Because it’s ash, it’s a little heavier than the usual alder but still a manageable 4.35kg/9lb 4oz sans ashtrays. Not a lot else to say really. It’s like new. The neck is still pasty white. £1050 GBP collected from Kingswood, Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. £1000 including postage in the UK. Reduced to £950 delivered on the UK. 8. This is a 50th Anniversary American Standard Precision bass in Transparent Butterscotch from 2001. Weight on my luggage scale is 4.26kg or 9lb 6oz. Body: Ash Neck: Maple (Maple Capped plus Graphite Reinforced) Fingerboard: Maple (9.5" Radius/241mm) Frets: 20 Medium Jumbo Scale Length: 34" Width at Nut 1.625" Hardware: Chrome Bridge: Standard. (String-through body) Pickguard: Black Anodized Aluminum Pickups: USA P Bass Unique Features: Vintage Tint on Neck, Commemorative 50th Anniversary Neck Plate, Rolled Fingerboard Edges, Certificate of Authenticity, Orange-lined Tweed Hardcase. Not your common garden, every couple of years Fender anniversary of something or other so slap a shiny sticker on it. This is a rare factory special run with certificate, one of less the 500 worldwide and cost around £1500 when new in 2001. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-50th-anniversary-precision-bass.597217/page-4 I snapped this up last year when it was moved on quickly by a couple of Basschat’s usual suspects and I’m moving it on for the exactly the same reason… it’s too damn nice. It’s pretty much mint by my reckoning and I’m scared of damaging a collectable. Since I bought it this has stayed in its case at the very back of the wardrobe. Ideally, I’d like someone to buy it and show it the light of day, but show it carefully because it’s appreciating in value. It comes with its original tweed C&G hardcase, truss rod tool and certificate of authenticity. First I sourced some Labella 0760M-TB Jamerson flats that string-through. Then I gave it to renowned Bristol luthier Eltham Jones for a thorough set up with a view to keeping it long term. I cajoled him to set it up with a very low action and, for a change, he actually did what I asked. Those fat stiff Labella’s are super low, with no buzz and easy to fret. It quivers if you give it so much as a dirty look and creamy strong fundamental tones are assured. Trial is encouraged at my home in Kingswood, Bristol and I’ll make you a cuppa as you noodle. £1250 GBP collected from Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. Now £1200 delivered in the UK.
