Like many bass players, I also play guitar and I front a blues influenced trio which covers 60s style bluesy pop rock including songs by Hendrix, Cream as well as Jeff Healey, various blues standards and other classic 60s rock. We aim to keep everything tight and snappy, with good arrangements and a professional approach.
Due to the relocation of our current bass player, as well as his new and expanding business, we require a new bass player to fill the position.
I have a decent PA (including subs), lights and a reliable van and also a dedicated rehearsal space at home which can accomodate a 3 or 4-piece band.
We have several gigs booked currently, all re-bookings, including the Blues Bar in Harrogate, and we aim for decent gigs that are worth playing. We're keen to get more in the diary and also to expand to more venues and different types of gigs, as well as being able to cover private functions effectively, as we occassionally get booked for those types of gigs too. The aim is to build on the success so far and develop things into a reliable, pofessional, regularly gigging band, rather than a casual weekend band.
We're also planning on taking this change as an opportunity to expand the band for some gigs to include keys, and a frontline of sax and trumpet, so we can gig the band as either a 3-piece, 4-piece or 6-piece, as well as adding significantly to the current repertoire of over 30 songs, also with more songs in the style of B.B.King, Robben Ford and similar others that suit a bigger band.
In a bass player, we'd be looking for someone who is keen to work hard to push things forwards and who is available for regular gigs. I've got parts written up for the current repertoire for the 3-piece (which I did to accommodate deps) so reading ability would probably be necessary so the set can be learnt fairly quickly, although there is plenty of freedom despite there being parts written up, and being a really good sight-reader is not necessary. Also, you'd need your own transport, although we can use the van on gigs, and obviously own equipment, previous experience. Backing vocals would be useful, but not essential.
I'm based in Guiseley, near Leeds.
Let me know if you're interested, or if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Jonny.
