2.
Did you have super mario on in the background or something?
I think it tells you something about my formative years that I know that tune like the back of my hand. It's the demo tune from the Yamaha PSS-680 keyboard (they used it on a few other models too, so it could be the 480 or something similar): As for family jammin'... love it. Keep it up. I have the occasional session with my 3-year-old on ukelele and me on either bass or swanee whistle (don't ask).
 3. I'm grooving... head nodding... fingers tapping... yeah, man. Cool and funky as hell.
 4. 1979 Wal Pro II And a pair of pliers to yank them frets, please.
 5.
How can the cookies on your machine affect the notifications coming from a website directly to you email?
No idea! Honestly, this is way beyond my technical ken. I only come on the internet for amusing pictures of cats and to send chain emails to relatives. But it could be something to do with BC not realising you've made the visit (and if it thinks you haven't visited since the last notification, it won't send you a fresh one for the next reply)... which could maybe be cookie-related... maybe? Oh, and the irony... I didn't get a notification of your reply this time.
 6.
I can't see any common denominators with mine, it all seems quite random.
What about t'other side? Happens to me with Finnbass too. Very rarely, but it definitely happens. I suspect some cookie-based evils or Firefox plugins creating havoc or summat.
 7. Also, just because a thread has "forgotten" my subscription once, it doesn't seem to necessarily mean that it's forgotten it for all time. Quite often, a visit to BC resets the notification-love from these errant threads and they behave again.
 8. Yeah, occasionally. I've noticed that it seems to happen when someone has posted a reply to the thread at around the same time as I click the link in the notification email. But that may just be coincidence. I haven't been so bothered by it that I've felt the need to collect and analyse data.
 9. Of course, note the sentence:
The sale does not include stock.
That'd be quite a considerable investment if the new owner wanted a good level of stock across a wide range of products.
 10. Yep, StringStar.com is up for grabs on eBay. If I had any time to spare, I'd be half-tempted, but competing with the likes of Strings Direct and Stringbusters can't be an easy task.
A few on here have been getting a little bit tumescent over this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118571 I certainly like it, rather a lot. Pretty sure this will be at the rarefied end of the range (if it ever makes it to the UK) and I'm looking forward to getting a proper look at one.
I really liked the look of that. Then I saw the price. I still like the look of it... I just know now that I won't be getting one.
 12.
Done
So... how did it play? And how did it sound? You look... er... delighted with its performance.
 13. Right, silly me: I've misremembered. Just been having a poke around on the EB forum (lawd help me) and Talkbass (er... lawd help me again). It's not "Enhanced Parallel". It's "Enhanced Series", or "Series with Filter" (there's some rumour it's a treble-cut). But there is genuinely no single-coil setting of any sort on the current SR5. They don't shout about it though, do they?
 14.
This conflicts with the up to date website spec and my own Ray5 unless they have swapped back since 2008 which I doubt, Middle position on a real Ray5 is still single coil with a phantom coil not enhanced parallel.
I've just this minute downloaded this spec sheet from the EBMM website: 2008-current SR5 alnico single-H spec Middle position is actually described as "Coil 1 + Coil 2 + Filter". [s]The key gives "+" as meaning series (rather than parallel, denoted by "&"), so maybe "Enhanced Parallel" is really filtered series... strange. [/s]
 15.
...The SR5 comes along, and rather interestingly it's ceramic parallel (rather than a more Stingray-ish alnico parallel). <snip> Later on the SR5 becomes alnico parallel. Back into Stingray territory.
IIRC, the SR5 was originally alnico for the first few years, switchable series/single/parallel (as my old SR5 was). It was around 1992-93 that EBMM made it ceramic, and they introduced the phantom coil around the same time (to buck hum in the single-coil position). In 2008, they switched back to alnico to make it more like the StingRay (so that StingRay = alnico and Sterling = ceramic); they also ditched the single-coil setting and made the switch run series/[s]"Enhanced Parallel"[/s]series-with-filter/parallel. I've never actually tried an SR5 with [s]"Enhanced Parallel"[/s] series-with-filter... it'd have to be pretty damn good to live up to the loveliness of the original single-coil position. That was my go-to setting.
 16.
so if i was to drive the 412 and the 210(yamaha) at 2ohm both cabs would be recieving 200watt?
Yes. They're both 4-ohm cabs, so plug 'em both in and the amp sees 2 ohms total load (so make sure you flip the switch to "2 ohms"), and the 400W of power will be divided equally between them: 200W each. Proceed to rock out and decide if you like what you hear.
 17.
ive got a yamaha 210 that runs at 250 at 4ohm just a bit dubious at running it with a 400watt all valve head
If you're running it with the VBC (and I'm not getting into the "mixing cabs" thing now), you'll have 200W running to each cab, so if it's rated to 250W, you're well within acceptable limits. (Of course, there's no substitute for listening to the cabs and hearing when they're at breaking point.)
 18.
At one point I considered trying to build a remote controlled VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) that would sit in the effects loop. That way if anyone turned up themselves up, then I could remotely turn them down again.
Do it! Sell it! Based on the number of threads on this exact issue, you'd have plenty of sales from Basschat alone.
 19.
I love it. This is what basschat is about... I get to learn from your experiences. I'd already reached the "don't touch the gain" note stage in my head, but I can jump right onto taping a bottle cap over the gain... and liklely the EQ Excellent!
I'd be wary of this approach unless I knew that my bass had a hotter output than virtually everything else that could ever plug into it. My Recurve 5 is one of the quietest basses I've ever had, so if I handed over my amp with an untouched gain stage (nicely set up to get my signal in without distorting) to someone with something hot (my old BTB springs to mind... could happily run straight into a power amp without any problems), we'd be into proper preamp-clipping and distortion territory. Of course, that could be a good thing. They'd sound so sh*t they'd never want to borrow your gear again.
 20.
I'm looking at advancing from 4 string to 5 string and wondering what was a good bass to get around £300 - £450
What 4-string are you playing now? It can be a good starting point to take a look at the 5-string version of whatever you're playing currently (if there is a 5-string version). And IMHO it doesn't help to think of it as "advancing". 5 isn't better than 4, nor is it harder. It's just slightly different. Emphasis on slightly. Don't throw psychological roadblocks up in front of yourself (however subconscious they might be).

 22.
god forbid it's a verb.
These are the moments I miss the old :brow: smiley.
 23.

Something about that smiley just made me laugh like a complete snorting twat. Love it!
 24.
Sorry BB5 I guess the sarcasm isn't coming across to well today.
I thought you might be carrying out some sort of sociological experiment, Rich: post controversial statement and see how many agree just to conform.
