1. Down the aisle it was the traditional Wedding March. But for walking back up the aisle afterwards, I wrote a piece for Organ which I called "Celebration". Recorded it on some early version of Cubase sequencer on an Atari STFM, and it sounded fine, so I hand transcribed it out for the organist. (no printers at home back then!) Either my hand writing was crap (probably was for scored music, as it's pretty unreadable when I write) or his reading wasn't up to match and he hadn't practiced it, but it sounded truly awful - luckily, so bad it was funny! Coming up for 21 years ago (and still happily married)
2. Hi all thanks for the inputs and advice - very helpful all round, and helped me decide what I will do. What a great community this is! I don't have any commercial or creative "ownership" of this - I was doing it for a friend, and the final parts that have been recorded are fine - very similar to what I did play anyway, and probably (come on, be honest, definitely) a touch better than mine on the day, anyway. It's definitely one to chalk up to experience. I guess the thing in my mind is that someone else has changed the part and I strongly suspect my friend doesn't know - and his friendship is far more important to me than any specific recording. So I'm coming to the opinion that it wouldn't help him or my friendship with him to raise this. This CD is an important project to him and I don't want to do anything to sour it for him.
3.
Crikey. So he may even have re-done the bass himself? There's no way I would pay for a recording and not be there for the tracking and mixing. Of course I don't know the full details but whatever the situation, it certainly sucks giant hairy moose balls from your point of view. You're probably a well-adjusted and reasonable bloke, but in this situation I'd go crazy apeshit bananas and start throwing poo around. YMMV. Maybe just talk to him in a calm and measured way about it and see what he says?
Aiming to keep the well-adjusted bit to the fore !
4.
If you felt your playing wasn't up to standard on the day why didn't you insist on a redo?
Good question - no good answer on my part!
5. The producer/engineer was very involved, played himself on a number of tracks and did a fair bit of recording without my friend being present (backing vocals, keyboard overdubs etc.) so it is quite possible that he is unaware
6. Hi A guitarist friend I have played and written music with for over 25 years asked me to play on a set of solo songs he has been working on. We are "weekend warriors" so music is a hobby for us, but he really wanted to get a good recording of the songs so spent a couple of thousand pounds on putting the CD together. I went to the studio last May and did 8 tracks. I didn't really gel with the producer/engineer and I definitely didn't play my best that day, but got them all recorded. After a year, the final mixed and mastered CD is out and my friend gave me a copy and I am credited on the sleeve as the Bass player. When I listened to the songs they sound great but it soon became clear to me that it wasn't my playing. Very similar to what I had done, but with fills that I know weren't me, and a 5 string on a song where I played 4 string etc. Of course there was a bit of a sucking feeling when I found out, but I know my friend has spent a lot on this and I want it to be as good for him as it can, so if my playing needed replacing, that's fine. But I don't feel I should be credited for something I didn't do. I'm not sure if my friend knows or not that I'm not on the recordings , but I suspect he doesn't know, so my dilemma is whether to mention it to him or not?
7. 1. I really wanted to be in a band, and my guitar playing was nowhere as good as my 2 mates. Damn those pesky chords... 2. I'd always really liked the sound of Rickenbaker basses (Chris Squire, Bruce Foxton) (though I've never owned or even played one in the 30 years since then!) 3. I'd been to see Weather Report in London and saw Jaco play live and was totally amazed by what the bass could do.
8. Hi, I play a bit of keyboard in my band, mostly piano and strings, and I use a Yamaha MM6. I got mine a few months back for £300 or so. I think they are end of live so about half the price they once were. It has 60 notes so not a full 76, but that's enough for me. The piano sound is extremely good, good organs and strings and I think the brass is ok. Some nice modern synth sounds too. If you read reviews on it there are a number of negative comments but this is all around its limited sequencing and midi and lack of ability to tweak sounds, which is ideal for me and also your guy by the sound of it! It has a memory bank where you store the sounds you want and 9 buttons to select them, so very easy to use on stage Cheers Dave
9.
Ashdown superfly, appalling.
How true - so much technology for so little sound. Really must get round to selling mine, but who would buy it? And my first ever amp was a Carlsbro Stingray, so I can sure pick 'em
10. The screw on the battery cover is very short and actually a bolt I think as it has a flat end rather than a pointed one like a screw. If only I had my old meccano set!
11. Thanks for the advice. I did take the screw to the only local shop I have like that, which is a Maplin, and they didn't have anything like it, sadly. Just have to keep looking . . .
12. Hi I've managed to lose one of the tiny screws that hold the battery covery on to my Fender Deluxe Jazz, and I can't seem to find a replacement anywhere - any suggestions? Also, has anyone put a screw-less battery box in a Deluxe Jazz? Is there one that fits without having to change the shape of the compartment at all? thanks Dave
13. Did a gig for a company Christmas do the other night - I've played with the Guitarist / Singer a couple of times, years ago, never played with the keyboard player before and never met the drummer! And they don't play with one another either, so it was a complete scratch band. Luckily the keyboards and drummer were pro/ex pro, so were really easy to play with, and the guitarist chose a very basic set (not sure any song reached the dizzy heights of 4 chords) - which was just as well as the rehearsal consisted of 25mins before the auridence turned up and included the sound check! Thanks to Guy at Roadtrip in Old Street for doiung a great job with the sound. And we all had a great time - including the audience :-)
14. Hi I have a fairly old ART LTX rack mount reverb unit that I haven't used for a number of years. I used to use it with my home recording studio (in the good old days of tape) but don't need it now that all happens on a pc. But I think it could still find a use as an outboard processor for a PA Amp, if the PA doesn't have much variety of reverbs/delays. You can see all the details at the manual at this link: http://www.studioman...b_LT_manual.pdf Some pictures of the same type of unit at http://klang.olx.com...y-iid-118983012 (not my actual one, but looks the same) I did try to give it away to the local school but they didn't seem to understand what it was(!), so I'm offering it to anyone who can make good use of it - no charge, it's for free. Someone with an old PA and can;t afford one with decent effects, or someone trying outboard effects in a home studio, for example. For some reason it doesn't have a plug on the power cable, but I'm sure whoever takes it can sorth that out! Only restriction is that you have to come and pick it up from Maidenhead cheers Dave
15. Hi Does the price include the courier cost to the UK. Cheers Dave
16. Bump! Now on eBay but seems no one wants it there either! 14 hours to go . . .
