  1. Thanks! I didn’t know about 3TS being a custom colour so that would explain it. Yes, the price context you mention does fit with the ask roughly, I guess being a pro there is also an additional mark-up to factor in. I’ll go try it out and see if it comes home with me, it’s good to see the board can pick a darker tone cause fretless 2-band seems to be otherwise hard to come by. I did find a BFR 2019 fretless in the US but at more than double the price…
  2. Hi all! I’ve been on the hunt for a fretless Stingray for a while now and one came up which may tick most boxes (except it seems priced a bit too high). It is local to me so I will go check it out in person but there are a couple of details I can’t square. The seller, who is a pro, doesn’t know what material the fretboard is made of. I would think it’s pau ferro, would anyone with more experience with this MM era be able to confirm? Also, the Serial comes up as Sunburst but it doesn’t look like a refin, am I missing anything there?
  3. Yeah sorry, I could look into posting to UK but we'd have to have a good look at import duties and VAT, by which time you may be better off buying one locally. GLWTS(earch)
  4. I am selling my Ibanez Portamento as I am on a quest to find a fretless Stingray but need to make space for it first. It is very light and well designed, the piezo plus two pick-up configuration gives it a huge range of tones, from double bass to jazz. Full specs below. I am based in Paris, but travel regularly to London (~once a month). I can post it in the EU via UPS insured at extra cost. Not keen to post to the UK due to the paperwork but happy to meet in London for a sale in person. It comes with a generic hard case. It currently wears LaBella White Nylons but I also have the original flatwounds it came with. Exchange possible, only vs a Fretless Stingray 2 band eq in Sunburst or Natural (obviously plus cash your way). Any questions, let me know! neck type: SRF45pc Maple/WalnutNeck-through top/back/body: Okoume wing body fretboard: Bound Panga Panga fretboard bridge: Custom bridge for AeroSilk Piezo system bridge string space: 19mm pickups: Bartolini® MK-1 neck pickupPassive equaliser: Ibanez 2-band EQ w/Piezo active tone control Scale : 864mm/34" Width: 38mm at NUT Width: 62mm at 24F Thickness: 21.5mm at 1F Thickness: 23.5mm at 12F Radius : 305mm
  5. I bought mine (‘88) earlier this year not far from the 1.5k mark, and I have seen one sold locally a few months later for a bit more than 1k. From what I have seen they tend to come out around the 2k mark but they often don’t sell quickly and end up clearing at lower prices. I should mention I live on the Continent and that may play a part in the pricing.
  6. I sold mine not long ago and I’m starting to regret it, but I think Mark uses AllParts necks with 41mm nuts and 10” radiuses for his builds
  7. Just received an email to announce they will release a final batch of tickets for Wembley at 10am today. Too late for me to sort a trip to London, but for those who can / are interested, give it a try!
  8. I found these ones interesting for the way they use traditional Japanese instruments for rock/metal
  9. I found myself running a similar search recently. Eventually, I landed on an Ibanez Portamento cause I could find a second hand one not far from me at around the £500 mark and I found it good value. However, when looking I had found a couple of unlined options on the cheap: - Ibanez Roadster from the late 70s - Cort Artisan with Mark Bass pre-amp - Hohner PJ from the 80s - Rockbass Corvette - Harley Benton B-450FL Out of these, a Cort and a HB should be readily available while the others are probably more of a second hand hunting exercise. I should mention that I didn't get to try any of these myself
  10. Did I hear growl? Warwick Thumb… There is one for sale here at the moment well within budget
  11. I was looking at this the other day and put it in the back pocket for future use...
  12. After a week down with Covid, last night I found the time to drive down to try the Portamento, and I ended up taking it back with me. The MC940 was already gone so that made my choice a bit easier. I’m still not fully convinced by the pick-ups, but the piezo + playing on the board gives a very nice upright sound that works well for me! Just need to find the right strings now…
  13. I would also keep in mind that the EHB1005MS is a multi-scale bass with fanned frets, I personally wouldn't feel that confident picking up a multi-scale 5 strings as first bass, I'd be spending 90% of the time figuring out how to mute the B string when not in use and getting used to the different fret positions.
  14. That’s true, but the MC I found seems to have the same configuration…
  15. Unfortunately I can’t get that one from where I am but there is a similar one I found. Is it heavy? Does it balance ok?
  16. I’ve been looking for a while to get myself a sub 1k unlined fretless bass. All in all, Ibanez seems to be a happy middle with a few interesting options in the price range I have in mind. I have found 3 basses that I could get, but as I’ve never owned one before, I was hoping to get some advice on the difference between their vintage and modern offers from people who have tried one or more of these. From the cheapest to the most expensive I found: - a 1979 passive Roadster RS800 - an SRF700 Portamento - a 1978 Musician MC940 Each one is about 200eur more expensive than the previous, the Portamento is near me so I could go pick it up and try it, but the others are a bit far. My other basses are a Warwick Thumb and a P Bass for context. Thanks in advance!
  17. Or if you’re short 3k you could settle for his P bass https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/fender-precision-bass-1965-ex-rhino
  18. Took the liberty of running the search:
  19. Having acquired an ‘88 Thumb after going through several more modern iterations I can only echo what’s already been said, these are worth the money and the neck is a joy to play.
  20. They just announced two tribute concerts for him, one of which will be in London on the 3rd of September. It's bound to be a really emotional moment for the band and the fans... https://www.foofighters.com/news/taylor-hawkins-tribute-concerts/
  21. Now that you mention that, there is some glare on the right hand side that seems to hide a red spot - maybe the last digit?
  22. I have looked into similarly stamped necks recently and all I could think it's '79 (unless it could be '69)? The way to look at it should be 01 = Precision 01 = Rosewood 4 = Week 4 9 = 79? 4 = Thursday. Would be similar to this - https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-neck-date.1484719/
  23. True that, plus I found out the old Schaller bridges are smaller than the newer ones, so they don’t actually fit. Currently on the lookout for an old black bridge if any comes up for sale…
  24. It really depends on the year. The early necks are slim and fast, the later ones get chunkier and then I think they switched back recently, it really needs to be tried. Generally speaking the lower notes feel quite far given the size of the body.
  25. The neck is an Allparts (10’ radius I think) but I can measure it when I get back home next week
