1. Hello mate, can I take those? Cheers Chris
 2.
And there are no trails left to blaze..? No impact to be had, culturally..? The legends of the 1920's are gone, those of the '50s sprang up. My (our...) generation is passing (we're all just passing through...); the next legends are only just born. Give 'em a chance and they'll 'originate' as did the others, as do all legends, in their time, in their own time. Every generation mourns the loss of their own, but each generation has their own legends, I'm sure, otherwise, there'd be no shoulders to stand on, would there..?
+1
 3. Very rare first year of production (I believe) Fender Precision neck with factory fretless maple board. The letters 03 71 B are evident on the heel stamp but are very faint. Only other identification on the heel is the pencil squiggle apparent in a couple of the photos. The board is in very good condition with little sign of play wear; what's there is suggestive of either very light play with roundwounds, and/or almost exclusive play with flats. The board is true with no significant dead spots. There is some sign of wear to the underside of the treble side of the back of the neck where the playing hand makes most contact, but even this is minimal. The neck is equipped with a new set of Gotoh FB30 nickel tuners. Bought from Maut on here about 18 months back (original listing here http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3056087 ), I've had it on an old 70's P/J but am having a bit of a clearout at present and this simply doesn't get played as often as my other two fretless basses. Please note that what look like string friction marks in the photo of the headstock/nut are is actually the grain, there is very little sign of play-wear anywhere on the neck. 4. All sold, '71 neck/tuners only now for sale at £450, new listing at http://basschat.co.u...ck-maple-board/
 5.
Thanks for that Chris, a bit heavier than I'd like so I shall pass. Cheers Gareth
Thanks Gareth, no worries. Chris
 6.
Seriously tempting
Ha ha, you might need to be quick mate, it's now on eBay also
 7.
That's a lame excuse...
The two excuses in question
 8.
If it works as you want, there is absolutely no reason to update any computer software. If the applications you are using don't run under the next version of the operating system then DON'T UPDATE IT. I still run Logic 9 under El Capitan. Both do everything In need, and therefore I see no reason to muck about with updates to either.
This. I still run Pro Tools 8 on Snow Leopard, and neither goes anywhere near the internet, and I still have this forum to thank for that extremely useful piece of advice when I was setting up the studio in 2010. All the hardware works just fine, and I like it that way (specifically my Mackie 1640i desk). I simply don't use any equipment that would require updating my software. OK, I guess one day something's going to go wrong with either the computer or the desk, but frankly I find navigating the constant issues around compatibility, bugs etc with software in other areas of my life to be sufficiently tiresome to ensure that I prefer the risk of major hardware failure than the almost daily hassle of software issues (when I bought the gear in question I was on the phone constantly to Avid in an attempt to iron out issues between the three core components, the desk, Pro Tools, and the iMac. Even given I had bought all three on the basis of 'compatibility', it took almost two weeks to get them to talk to each other, a process that involved my deleting various files, loading (and on several occasions subsequently deleting) custom versions of the software etc. But back to the OP's observation, Apple are no different to any other business, and perhaps far more customer-centred than many. They are always being bashed for the simple reason that they are a massive and successful business, but one that has to update its products at a frantic pace to keep pace. Perhaps it's a sign of my age, but I've always been an Apple fan, simply because of what they were trying to do in the 80's and 90's. Today they are in a different market - one which to an extent they themselves created and defined - and so are a different proposition I'll admit. They're a little like Nike, innovating thinkers and engineers for a niche market of passionate devotees in the 1970's turned mass-market fashion leader 20 years later. Both companies changed the world to an extent, but both face huge problems of their own design.
 9. I've listed the Fretless on eBay ending Sunday. If it doesn't sell I'm going to part it as the neck will likely sell pretty quickly on eBay and I can easily move the body on at a later date. I just need to trim the heard and pull in a bit of cash soonish
 10.
Whereabouts are you Mr B ?
Hello mate, I'm in Canterbury Cheers Chris
 11. Weight is 9lbs 8oz on a pretty decent set of scales. Turns out that the strat in question is 3lbs heavier!!!!
 12.
Chris the bass arrived with a full complement of screws. I just saw fit to change them, new pick guard new screws sort of thing. I am very happy.
Excellent news Kev
 13. Thank you gentlemen, it is indeed a lovely geetar at a rather competitive price. If I didn't have two other Strats......
 14. And yes, that bass does not need a J-PUP
 15. Hi Kev Really glad it got to you in one piece and on time (it's a sad reflection of the courier industry that constant hope and eternal gratitude are required of customers!). Now, the pickguard screws! I took off the pickguard yesterday to check the solder joints - not pretty, but functional - before I sent, and about 20 minutes after it was picked up I had that worrying "sh*t, did I put the screws back in" moment! If I didn't, please accept my sincere apologies and I'll get a set to you ASAP. If I did, just another sign of old age creeping in I guess! Enjoy the bass, it's the type of Precision I used to love, loud, bright, zingy and responsive. I've become more docile over time and now have an old '62 RI with very heavy flats and a rather muted, if not rather toneful, output Pleasure doing business with you mate Chris
 16.
How heavy is the PJ Chris?
Hello mate, it's not heavy for sure, it's the lightest bass I have here and is actually far lighter than my 70's Strat! I don't have scales here however; I'll see if my neighbours have any and get back to you. Chris
 17. For sale is a lovely Strat built from good quality components. It has a Warmoth (USA) birdseye maple neck (with a lovely large headstock) and a set of Sonic Monkey pickups, handmade by Joseph Kaye at The London Guitar Workshop/Joseph Kaye Guitars (and as used by Wilko among others). I don't know the history or the wood of the body (although it is solid wood), there are some squiggles and numbers in the neck pocket but nothing that I think means anything. Either way, it’s light and resonant. There are a couple of dinks in the finish and a split near the neck pocket (although this also is only in the finish). The pots are CTS, the switch is a CRL, the wiring is cloth covered with an orange drop capacitor installed. The bridge and neckplate are Fender. Tuners are Kluson. There is an age appropriate logo on the headstock. It’s a decent guitar which I’m selling at a bloody decent price; the neck alone, which is a thing of beauty, is more than the asking price.
 18. On reflection I think I'd be happy to sell the neck/tuners and the loaded body separately, I think £250 for the body, PUPs, circuit, pickguard and bridge, and £400 for the neck tuners is reasonable Cheers Chris
 19.
It may work; it may become a prison sentence. Customs bods are not daft.
That's the bottom line here. I had a lengthy chat with a Denmark St dealer about customs and it was an eye opener. He described how it cost him a fortune and hit his bottom line badly, but that there was no way he'd try to blag it. And he didn't strike me as the delicate type...... Either way, 23% saving on a 7-year old instrument plus risk of approx 30% duties/taxes, and the possibility that if you try to blag it things could get messy (bass impounded and a prosecution). As our US friends say "You do the math...." And imagine if you then had to return it because it isn't what you expected
 20. Maple fretless is now on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182728051138?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649, so if you want it, please be quick. Let's face it, these basses don't come up very often, especially at this price Chris
 21.
Thanks SICbass - I found some more pics here https://www.talkbass...ge-rig.1120617/ It seem to be a fairly old story.
Bloody hell, those guys at TB take things seriously
